Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on High-Brightness Accelerators was held at the Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland, from July 13 through July 25, 1986. This publication is the Proceedings of the Institute. This ASI emphasized the basic physics and engineering of the rela tively new and fast-emerging field of high-brightness particle accelera tors. These machines are high- to very-high-current (amperes to hundreds of kiloamperes), modest-voltage (megavolt to tens of megavolts) devices, and as such are opposed to those historically used for high-energy physics studies (i.e., gigavolt and higher energies and rather low currents). The primary focus of the Institute was on the physics of the accelerator and the beam, including the dynamics, equilibria, and insta bilities of high-current beams near the space-charge limit; accelerator engineering techniques; and the applications of high-brightness beams in areas such as free-electron lasers, synchrotron-radiation sources, food processing, and heavy- and light-ion fusion. The Institute concentrated on bringing together several diverse but related communities which, we hope, benefited from this opportunity to interact: the North American activity in machine technology, engineer ing, and diagnostics with the strong European theoretical community; the basic beam physicists with the engineering technologists.

Book High Energy Density and High Power RF

Download or read book High Energy Density and High Power RF written by Steven H. Gold and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2003-12-04 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the sixth in a series of international workshops on high-power and high-energy density microwave devices for accelerator, plasma physics, and defense applications. Past workshops were held in Dubna, Montauk, Hayama, Pajaro Dunes, and Snowbird. The theme is research and development of techniques to increase microwave energy density and peak power in active and passive microwave devices and components ranging from L-band to W-band. The scope of this workshop has now been broadened to include radar and high power microwave (HPM) systems, space exploration, neutron sources, and even plasma heating and current drive in controlled thermonuclear fusion research.

Book Adsorption through Advanced Nanoscale Materials

Download or read book Adsorption through Advanced Nanoscale Materials written by Chandrabhan Verma and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-08-22 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adsorption through Advanced Nanoscale Materials: Applications in Environmental Remediation brings together the latest developments in the utilization of advanced nanoadsorbents in wastewater treatment, pollution control, removal and remediation, gas separation and other environmental applications. The book begins by providing an overview of absorption, adsorbents and nanoadsorbents, introducing properties, classification, synthesis, characterization, enhancement of adsorption capabilities, principles and advantages and disadvantages of nanoadsorbents. Other sections cover the preparation of advanced nanoadsorbents based on specific materials for wastewater treatment, including adsorbents incorporating carbon nanotubes, graphene and graphene oxide, carbon dots and fullerene, polymer nanocomposites, metal oxides, nanoclay, nanofillers, and filtration membranes. Final sections examine the role of nanoadsorbents in broader environmental applications, including areas such as pollution control and removal and gas separation. Finally, other important considerations are studied, including toxicity and health impact, ecotoxicological effects, commercialization and economic issues, challenges and research gaps, trends, and future opportunities. - Provides in-depth coverage of nanoadsorbents for a range of targeted environmental applications - Covers, in detail, fundamentals such as synthesis methods, characterization and inhibition mechanisms - Addresses key areas such as toxicity, health impact, research gaps, trends and commercialization

Book Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission

Download or read book Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission written by Jay L. Hirshfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-12 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between February 17 and 20, 2004, approximately fifty scientists from ten countries came together at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), Nizhny Novgorod, Russia to participate in a NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop whose appellation is re flected in the title of this volume, namely Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission. The fashionable label “quasi optical ” has come into use in recent decades to denote structures whose characteristic dimensions exceed (sometimes by large factors) the free space radiation wavelength. Such structures were and are developed to replace the traditional single eigenmode ones in situations when high frequenc ies (short wavelengths) are combined with high powers, a combination that could otherwise lead to RF breakdown and high Ohmic wall heating rates. Treatments of guided wave propagation in oversized structures is aimed at pr eserving the propagating field coherence and thus to provide efficient transmission of RF power to remote destinations such as antennas, microwave ovens, plasma chemical reactors, nuclear fusion machines, and the like.

Book Electromagnetic Fields in Biological Systems

Download or read book Electromagnetic Fields in Biological Systems written by James C. Lin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning static fields to terahertz waves, this volume explores the range of consequences electromagnetic fields have on the human body. Topics discussed include essential interactions and field coupling phenomena; electric field interactions in cells, focusing on ultrashort, pulsed high-intensity fields; dosimetry or coupling of ELF fields into biological systems; and the historical developments and recent trends in numerical dosimetry. It also discusses mobile communication devices and the dosimetry of RF radiation into the human body, exposure and dosimetry associated with MRI and spectroscopy, and available data on the interaction of terahertz radiation with biological tissues, cells, organelles, and molecules.
