Book Three dimensional Transonic Potential Flow about Complex 3 dimensional Configurations

Download or read book Three dimensional Transonic Potential Flow about Complex 3 dimensional Configurations written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis has been developed and a computer code written to predict three-dimensional subsonic or transonic potential flow fields about lifting or nonlifting configurations. Possible condfigurations include inlets, nacelles, nacelles with ground planes, S-ducts, turboprop nacelles, wings, and wing-pylon-nacelle combinations. The solution of the full partial differential equation for compressible potential flow written in terms of a velocity potential is obtained using finite differences, line relaxation, and multigrid. The analysis uses either a cylindrical or Cartesian coordinate system. The computational mesh is not body fitted. The analysis has been programmed in FORTRAN for both the CDC CYBER 203 and the CRAY-1 computers. Comparisons of computed results with experimental measurement are presented. Descriptions of the program input and output formats are included.

Book Transonic Flow Calculations in Two and Three Dimensions

Download or read book Transonic Flow Calculations in Two and Three Dimensions written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years attempts to improve the performance of nozzle, rotors, compressors, airfoil sections, wings, and airplanes have revived research efforts in transonic aerodynamics. The present investigation describes various aspects of transonic flow calculations by a relaxation method. Of primary interest are techniques to reduce computational times for three-dimensional flows. Solutions of the small disturbance and full three-dimensional potential flow equations are obtained for two- and three-dimensional geometries. Several different geometries are considered. Book Multi Grid Calculation of Three Dimensional Transonic Potential Flows

Download or read book Multi Grid Calculation of Three Dimensional Transonic Potential Flows written by D. A. Caughey and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-grid algorithm has been developed to speed the iterative convergence of calculations for the transonic potential flow past swept wings and wing-fuselage combinations. The method is based upon a fully-conservative, finite-volume approximation to the steady potential equation which is second-order accurate everywhere in the flow field except near shock waves. The multi-grid scheme is incorporated within the framework of an alternating successive-line-overrelaxation (SLOR) solver of the difference equations. Computated results confirm the second-order accuracy of the scheme, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the multi-grid procedure. (Author).

Book Analysis of Three Dimensional Transonic Potential Flows Using Optimum Grid

Download or read book Analysis of Three Dimensional Transonic Potential Flows Using Optimum Grid written by A. Ecer and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A three-dimensional finite element procedure is developed for the analysis of three-dimensional transonic flows and applied to the analysis of wing-body combinations. A finite element grid generation scheme for three-dimensional bodies with complex geometries is presented. The design of efficient, body-fitted computational grids with isoparametric mappings, as well as the application of higher-order finite elements in analyzing transonic potential flows are investigated. Two different computational grids were designed and studied with a numerical scheme based on the density upwinding in the supersonic regions. A pseudo-unsteady type formulation is employed in determining a steady-state solution. It is concluded that the grid generation scheme is quite flexible and efficient for generating solution adaptive grids and providing local refinements in the sensitive flow regions. Also, it is shown that the employed numerical scheme with higher-order elements at flow regions of high gradients produced results which compare favorable with experimental data. (Author).

Book Solving Three dimensional Potential Flow Problems by Means of an Inverse Formulation and Finite Differences

Download or read book Solving Three dimensional Potential Flow Problems by Means of an Inverse Formulation and Finite Differences written by Allen L. Davis and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A finite difference method is developed to solve the three-dimensional, steady, incompressible, potential flow equations obtained by using a potential function, phi, and two mutually orthogonal stream functions, psi and psi*, to describe the flow. Problems are formulated in an inverse space where the potential function and the two stream functions are the independent variables, and the Cartesian coordinates x, y, and z are the dependent variables. The boundaries of the problem in the physical space, including the free surface, have known positions in the inverse space, so trial and error adjustments to the positions of the boundaries are unnecessary. Methods of describing the effect of the placement of a body, whose shape is partially specified, in the flow field are developed using finite differences, and a solution for the x-, y-, and z-coordinates is obtained at each grid point formed by the intersection of surfaces held constant with respect to phi, psi, and psi* in the inverse space.
