Book Recent Data on Tire Friction During Landing

Download or read book Recent Data on Tire Friction During Landing written by Sidney A. Batterson and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made at the Langley landing-loads track to obtain data on the coefficient of friction during wheel spin-up. A landing gear was tested at horizontal velocities ranging from zero to 180 feet per second together with vertical velocities of 7.0 and 9.3 feet per second. The results indicate the effect of forward speed and tire inflation pressure on the coefficient of friction.

Book Tire Friction Coefficients and Their Relation to Ground run Distance in Landing

Download or read book Tire Friction Coefficients and Their Relation to Ground run Distance in Landing written by F. B. Gustafson and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary of published information on braking friction coefficients is presented. An analysis is included which indicates that the magnitude of the friction coefficient available will affect the technique required for obtaining the shortest ground run only under extreme conditions. In this connection, technique refers to the choice between utilizing air drag and ground friction through choice of attitude. The analysis further shows that the landing attitude is almost never the attitude for the shortest ground run. A chart is presented for rapid estimation of ground-run. A chart is presented for rapid estimation of ground-run distance for any set of values of friction coefficient, airplane attitude, initial drag weight ratio, and initial velocity. Sample studies are presented for high- and low-wing loadings.

Book Tire to surface Friction coefficient Measurements with a C 123B Airplane on Various Runway Surfaces

Download or read book Tire to surface Friction coefficient Measurements with a C 123B Airplane on Various Runway Surfaces written by Richard H. Sawyer and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to obtain information on the tire-to-surface friction coefficients available in aircraft braking during the landing run. The tests were made with a C-123B airplane on both wet and dry concrete and bituminous pavements and on snow-covered and ice surfaces at speeds from 12 to 115 knots. Measurements were made of the maximum (incipient skidding) friction coefficient, the full-skidding (locked wheel) friction coefficient, and the wheel slip ratio during braking.

Book Vehicular Measurements of Effective Runway Friction

Download or read book Vehicular Measurements of Effective Runway Friction written by Jack J. Shrager and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted to determine the relationship of friction measurements, as computed from full-scale jet aircraft braking tests, to measurements obtained with special ground vehicular equipment on an operational runway under simulated adverse weather conditions. Results indicated that it may be possible to employ special vehicular equipment to obtain operational runway surface friction which can be related to the maximum energy braking effectiveness for a full-scale jet aircraft. Book Advances in Aircraft Brakes and Tires

Download or read book Advances in Aircraft Brakes and Tires written by Robert Kyle Schmidt and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2015-08-24 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An aircraft’s interface with the ground—through its wheels, tires, and brakes—is critical to ensure safe and reliable operation, demanding constant technology development. Significant advancements have occurred with almost all civil airliners entering service with radial tires, and with the Boeing 787 having entered service in 2011 with electrically actuated carbon-carbon brakes. This book is divided into three sections: tires, control systems, and brakes, presenting a selection of the most relevant papers published by SAE International on these matters in the past fifteen years. They have been chosen to provide significant interest to those engineers working in the landing gear field. With almost all current large civil aircraft (and many smaller aircraft) opting exclusively for carbon-carbon brakes, a number of papers addressing the challenges of this technology are included. Papers touching on tire behavior and papers discussing brake control strategies are provided. For those looking for more information on aircraft landing gears, brakes, and tires, the SAE A-5 committee (the Aerospace Landing Gear Systems Committee), which meets twice a year, serves as a useful forum for discussion on landing gear issues and development. A current listing of documents produced and maintained by the A-5 committee is included in the appendix.

  • Pages : 135 pages

Download or read book Aircraft Tires written by Kyle Schmidt and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2022-05-27 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landing gear provides an intriguing and compelling challenge, combining many fields of science and engineering. Designed to guide the interested reader through aircraft tire design, selection, and integration to the aircraft landing gear, this book presents a specific element of landing gear design in an accessible way. The author’s two volume treatise, The Design of Aircraft Landing, was the inspiration for this book. The Design of Aircraft Landing is a landmark work for the industry and utilizes over 1,000 pages to present a complete, in-depth study of each component that must considered when designing an aircraft’s landing gear. While recognizing that not everyone may need the entire treatise, Aircraft Tires: Key Principles for Landing Gear Design is one of three quick reference guides focusing on one key element of aircraft design and landing gear design. This volume features tire construction and terminology, mechanics of pneumatic tires, tire performance and modeling as well reviewing undesirable tire behavior. R. Kyle Schmidt has over 25 years’ experience across three countries and has held a variety of variety of engineering roles relating to the development of new landing gears and the sustainment of existing landing gears in service.
