Book Recent Advances in Research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Download or read book Recent Advances in Research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles written by Fariba Fahroo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A team of launched and coordinated Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), requires advanced technologies in sensing, communication, computing, and control to improve their intelligence and robustness towards autonomous operations. To enhance reliability, robustness, and mission capability of a team of UAVs, a system-oriented and holistic approach is desirable in which all components and subsystems are considered in terms of their roles and impact on the entire system. This volume aims to summarize the recent progress, identify challenges and opportunities, and develop new methodologies and systems on coordinated UAV control. A group of experts working in this area have contributed to this volume in several related aspects of autonomous control of networked UAVs. Their papers introduce new control methodologies, algorithms, and systems that address several important issues in developing intelligent, autonomous or semi-autonomous, networked systems for the next generation of UAVs. The papers share a common focus on improved coordination of the members of the networked system to accomplish a common mission, to achieve heightened capability in system reconfiguration to compensate for lost members or connections, and to enhance robustness against terrain complications and attacks.

Book Autonomous Vehicles in Support of Naval Operations

Download or read book Autonomous Vehicles in Support of Naval Operations written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-08-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have been used in military operations for more than 60 years, with torpedoes, cruise missiles, satellites, and target drones being early examples.1 They have also been widely used in the civilian sector-for example, in the disposal of explosives, for work and measurement in radioactive environments, by various offshore industries for both creating and maintaining undersea facilities, for atmospheric and undersea research, and by industry in automated and robotic manufacturing. Recent military experiences with AVs have consistently demonstrated their value in a wide range of missions, and anticipated developments of AVs hold promise for increasingly significant roles in future naval operations. Advances in AV capabilities are enabled (and limited) by progress in the technologies of computing and robotics, navigation, communications and networking, power sources and propulsion, and materials. Autonomous Vehicles in Support of Naval Operations is a forward-looking discussion of the naval operational environment and vision for the Navy and Marine Corps and of naval mission needs and potential applications and limitations of AVs. This report considers the potential of AVs for naval operations, operational needs and technology issues, and opportunities for improved operations.

Book Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Internet of Things IoT

Download or read book Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Internet of Things IoT written by Vandana Mohindru and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES FOR INTERNET OF THINGS This comprehensive book deeply discusses the theoretical and technical issues of unmanned aerial vehicles for deployment by industries and civil authorities in Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has become one of the rapidly growing areas of technology, with widespread applications covering various domains. UAVs play a very important role in delivering Internet of Things (IoT) services in small and low-power devices such as sensors, cameras, GPS receivers, etc. These devices are energy-constrained and are unable to communicate over long distances. The UAVs work dynamically for IoT applications in which they collect data and transmit it to other devices that are out of communication range. Furthermore, the benefits of the UAV include deployment at remote locations, the ability to carry flexible payloads, reprogrammability during tasks, and the ability to sense for anything from anywhere. Using IoT technologies, a UAV may be observed as a terminal device connected with the ubiquitous network, where many other UAVs are communicating, navigating, controlling, and surveilling in real time and beyond line-of-sight. The aim of the 15 chapters in this book help to realize the full potential of UAVs for the IoT by addressing its numerous concepts, issues and challenges, and develops conceptual and technological solutions for handling them. Applications include such fields as disaster management, structural inspection, goods delivery, transportation, localization, mapping, pollution and radiation monitoring, search and rescue, farming, etc. In addition, the book covers: Efficient energy management systems in UAV-based IoT networks IoE enabled UAVs Mind-controlled UAV using Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) The importance of AI in realizing autonomous and intelligent flying IoT Blockchain-based solutions for various security issues in UAV-enabled IoT The challenges and threats of UAVs such as hijacking, privacy, cyber-security, and physical safety. Audience: Researchers in computer science, Internet of Things (IoT), electronics engineering, as well as industries that use and deploy drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles.

Book Forestry Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs 2019

Download or read book Forestry Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs 2019 written by Alessandro Matese and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are new platforms that have been increasingly used in the last few years for forestry applications that benefit from the added value of flexibility, low cost, reliability, autonomy, and capability of timely provision of high-resolution data. The main adopted image-based technologies are RGB, multispectral, and thermal infrared. LiDAR sensors are becoming commonly used to improve the estimation of relevant plant traits. In comparison with other permanent ecosystems, forests are particularly affected by climatic changes due to the longevity of the trees, and the primary objective is the conservation and protection of forests. Nevertheless, forestry and agriculture involve the cultivation of renewable raw materials, with the difference that forestry is less tied to economic aspects and this is reflected by the delay in using new monitoring technologies. The main forestry applications are aimed toward inventory of resources, map diseases, species classification, fire monitoring, and spatial gap estimation. This Special Issue focuses on new technologies (UAV and sensors) and innovative data elaboration methodologies (object recognition and machine vision) for applications in forestry.

Book Advances in Aerospace Guidance Navigation and Control

Download or read book Advances in Aerospace Guidance Navigation and Control written by Florian Holzapfel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades, both the aeronautics and space disciplines have greatly influenced advances in controls, sensors, data fusion and navigation. Many of those achievements that made the word “aerospace” synonymous with “high–tech” were enabled by innovations in guidance, navigation and control. Europe has seen a strong trans-national consolidation process in aerospace over the last few decades. Most of the visible products, like commercial aircraft, fighters, helicopters, satellites, launchers or missiles, are not made by a single country – they are the fruits of cooperation. No European country by itself hosts a specialized guidance, navigation and controls community large enough to cover the whole spectrum of disciplines. However, on a European scale, mutual exchange of ideas, concepts and solutions is enriching for all. The 1st CEAS Specialist Conference on Guidance, Navigation and Control is an attempt to bring this community together. This book is a selection of papers presented at the conference. All submitted papers have gone through a formal review process in compliance with good journal practices. The best papers have been recommended by the reviewers to be published in this book.
