Book Internal Anatomy and Physiological Regulation

Download or read book Internal Anatomy and Physiological Regulation written by Linda Mantel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biology of Crustacea, Volume 5: Internal Anatomy and Physiological Regulation is an eight-chapter book that begins with a discussion on the internal anatomy of Crustacea with emphasis on its major organ systems. This volume provides information on the regulation of the composition of hemolymph and provision of energy to tissues. Some chapters deal with the exchange and transport of gases, particularly, on ventilation, perfusion, and oxygen transport. Because this book contains vast background information and perspective on the subject matter, it will be a valuable source for zoologists, paleontologists, ecologists, physiologists, endocrinologists, morphologists, pathologists, and marine biologists. It will be an essential reference work for institutional libraries as well.

Book Neurotransmitters in Invertebrates

Download or read book Neurotransmitters in Invertebrates written by K. S. Rózsa and published by Franklin Book Company. This book was released on 1981 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Physiological Sciences, Volume 22: Neurotransmitters in Invertebrates provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of transmitter research in invertebrates. This book discusses the significant contribution of studies on invertebrates to the discovery or postulation of other transmitters. Organized into three parts encompassing 33 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the study of synaptic transmission in central neurons, which is restricted by the difficulty of recording individual miniature postsynaptic potentials or currents. This text then examines the re ...

Download or read book Locust Neurobiology written by ROWELL and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acridoid grasshoppers in general and the various species of swarm-forming locusts in particular have been among the most favoured subjects of insect physi ology, behaviour and ecology for many years. Several factors contribute to this popularity: their abundance in nature and their ease of culture in the laboratory, their relatively large size, and most of all, perhaps, their agricultural importance and the consequent intermittent availability of funds for their study. These factors together have inspired a large amount of experimental work, and this in tum has produced a new and often over-riding reason for working on acridoids -the huge body of available background information and know-how that has built up about these insects. This state of affairs is well seen in insect neurobiology. Only a restricted number of insect types are commonly used in this discipline, and originally most of them were selected for reasons of convenience and availability: grasshoppers, cock roaches, crickets, flies, bees and moths are the most important. Each of these in sects is the subject of the attentions of one or more major groups of neurobiolo gists, but neurobiological articles on acridoids probably exceed in number those on all other insects combined, at least if articles on the molecular biology of the nervous system of Drosophila are excluded.
