Book The Inflammasomes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Isabelle Couillin
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-07-02
  • ISBN : 3034801483
  • Pages : 233 pages

Download or read book The Inflammasomes written by Isabelle Couillin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-02 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inflammasome was first described in 2002 as a molecular complex activating proinflammatory caspases and therefore regulating the maturation and biological activities of cytokines such as IL-1 and IL-18. This finding was substantiated by the identification of several mutations in the cias1 gene, encoding the human NLRP3 protein, responsible for several autoinflammatory disorders such as the Muckle Wells syndrome. Since, the interest for this complex has constantly increased and several inflammasome complexes with different specificities have been described. These inflammasomes sense a wide variety of pathogens and danger signals and are key players in the inflammatory response. With the contributions of leading international experts in the field, this book provides an extensive overview of the current knowledge of inflammasome biology and their role in health and disease.

Book Damage Associated Molecular Patterns in Human Diseases

Download or read book Damage Associated Molecular Patterns in Human Diseases written by Walter Gottlieb Land and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The core of this three-volume book deals with damage-associated molecular patterns abbreviated “DAMPs”, which are unique molecules that save life and fight for survival of all organisms on this planet by triggering robust inflammatory/immune defense responses upon any injury, including those caused by pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. However, these molecules also have a dark side: when produced in excess upon severe insults, they can trigger serious human diseases. The three volumes present current understanding of the importance of DAMP-promoted immune responses in the etiopathogenesis of human diseases and explore how this understanding is impacting diagnosis, prognosis, and future treatment. This third volume addresses the potential of DAMPs in clinical practice, as therapeutic targets and therapeutics, by focusing on a description of antigen-related diseases, which are pathogenetically dominated by DAMPs, that is, infectious and autoimmune disorders and allograft rejection (as an undesired function of these molecules), as well as tumor rejection (as the desired function of these molecules). The book is written for professionals from all medical and paramedical disciplines who are interested in the introduction of innovative data from modern inflammation and immunity research into clinical practice. In this sense, the book reflects an approach to translational medicine. The readership will include all practitioners and clinicians, in particular, ICU clinicians, infectiologists, microbiologists, virologists, hematologists, rheumatologists, diabetologists, neurologists, transplantologists, oncologists, and pharmacists. Also available: Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns in Human Diseases - Vol. 1: Injury-Induced Innate Immune Responses; Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns in Human Diseases - Vol. 2: Danger Signals as Diagnostics, Prognostics, and Therapeutic Targets.

Book Inflammatory Disorders

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rossen Donev
  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2020-02
  • ISBN : 0128168447
  • Pages : 348 pages

Download or read book Inflammatory Disorders written by Rossen Donev and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-02 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inflammation is a biological response triggered by different stimuli that has in the body a potentially damaging effect. In certain conditions, such as injury or infection, inflammation is a normal, healthy response. However, inflammatory disorders that result in the immune system attacking the body's own cells or tissues may cause abnormal inflammation, which results in chronic pain, redness, swelling, stiffness, and damage to normal tissues. Mechanisms involved in promoting a number of different inflammatory disorders and their targeting for therapeutic benefit have been one of the hottest topics in last few decades. The two consecutive volumes (119 and 120) dedicated to this subject cover a wide spectrum of inflammatory disorders, mechanisms that are believed to cause them and different strategies for managing the inflammatory diseases. The volume integrates methods for studying inflammatory disorders, mechanisms that trigger these disorders and strategies for managing the inflammatory disorders It contains timely chapters written by well-renown authorities in their field The information provided in the volume is well supported by a number of high-quality illustrations, figures and tables, and targets a very wide audience of specialists, researchers and students

Book Inflammasome Signaling and Bacterial Infections

Download or read book Inflammasome Signaling and Bacterial Infections written by Steffen Backert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume details our current understanding of the architecture and signaling capabilities of known canonical and non-canonical inflammasome complexes and highlights their action, in particular in response to infection with important bacterial model organisms and the corresponding disease pathologies. The first chapters review new insights into the assembly and structures of inflammasome components and emphasize general strategies of up- and downstream signaling events. In addition, the authors specifically discuss the composition and activity of inflammasomes during infection with various gut pathogens (Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, Listeria and Helicobacter), respiratory pathogens (Mycobacterium, Legionella, Burkholderia and Streptococcus) as well as skin and soft tissue pathogens (Francisella and Staphylococcus). The discoveries presented provide a better understanding of the cellular and molecular biology of inflammasomes, which will pinpoint important new therapeutic targets for the treatment and prevention of multiple infectious diseases in the future. It is a valuable resource for students, scientists and clinicians, providing up-to-date information on this emerging research topic.

Book Recent Advances in the Molecular Genetics and Precision Medicine of Lung Carcinoma

Download or read book Recent Advances in the Molecular Genetics and Precision Medicine of Lung Carcinoma written by Mehdi Pirooznia and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-25 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lung Carcinoma is the 2nd most common cancer worldwide, with more than 2.2 million cases recorded globally in the year 2020, as well as 1.8 million deaths. It is the most common cancer in men and the 2nd most common cancer in women, with an estimated lifetime risk of developing the disease of 1 in 15 for men and 1 in 17 for women. Whilst being the most prevalent cancer, it is important to note that smoking is the single biggest risk factor for developing Lung Cancer, with over 70% of cases being estimated to have been caused by tobacco smoke, and excessive smoking potentially leading to as much as a 25x increase in the likelihood of the disease developing. Mortality rates have been steadily dropping globally due to declining smoking rates, especially in younger generations who are now more aware of the potential dangers, but also because of the increasing advancements being made in our understanding of the disease. Improved screening methods mean many more cases are now caught earlier than they would otherwise have been, and our ever-advancing ranges of treatments can begin earlier than they could have previously. Recent advances in sequencing technology, computational approaches, and our biological understanding of lung cancer have revolutionized how we diagnose, prognosticate, and treat lung carcinoma. Genetic studies into this disease have revealed a plethora of information which can be used to combat the Cancer, such as novel biomarkers and gene signatures, as well as opening the door to more of a ‘personalized medicine’ approach.
