Download or read book Recycling of Polyurethane Foams written by Sabu Thomas and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recycling of Polyurethane Foams introduces the main degradation/depolymerization processes and pathways of polyurethane foam materials, focusing on industrial case studies and academic reviews from recent research and development projects. The book can aid practitioners in understanding the basis of polymer degradation and its relationship with industrial processes, which can be of substantial value to industrial complexes the world over. The main pathways of polymer recycling via different routes and industrial schemes are detailed, covering all current techniques, including regrinding, rebinding, adhesive pressing and compression moulding of recovered PU materials that are then compared with depolymerization approaches. The book examines life cycle assessment and cost analysis associated with polyurethane foams waste management, showing the potential of various techniques. This book will help academics and researchers identify and improve on current depolymerization processes, and it will help industry sustainability professionals choose the appropriate approach for their own waste management systems, thus minimizing the costs and environmental impact of their PU-based end products. - Offers a comprehensive review of all polyurethane foam recycling processes, including both chemical and mechanical approaches - Assesses the potential of each recycling process - Helps industry-based practitioners decide which approach to take to minimize the cost and environmental impact of their end product - Enables academics and researchers to identify and improve upon current processes of degradation and depolymerization

Download or read book Rate Independent Systems written by Alexander Mielke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides both an introduction to and a thorough exposition of the theory of rate-independent systems, which the authors have been working on with a lot of collaborators over 15 years. The focus is mostly on fully rate-independent systems, first on an abstract level either with or even without a linear structure, discussing various concepts of solutions with full mathematical rigor. Then, usefulness of the abstract concepts is demonstrated on the level of various applications primarily in continuum mechanics of solids, including suitable approximation strategies with guaranteed numerical stability and convergence. Particular applications concern inelastic processes such as plasticity, damage, phase transformations, or adhesive-type contacts both at small strains and at finite strains. A few other physical systems, e.g. magnetic or ferroelectric materials, and couplings to rate-dependent thermodynamic models are considered as well. Selected applications are accompanied by numerical simulations illustrating both the models and the efficiency of computational algorithms. In this book, the mathematical framework for a rigorous mathematical treatment of "rate-independent systems" is presented in a comprehensive form for the first time. Researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics, engineering, and computational physics will find this timely and well written book useful.

Download or read book Fracture Kinetics of Crack Growth written by A.S. Krausz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few years, we have made numerous presentations, delivered several series of lectures, and participated in many discussions on the processes of time-dependent crack growth. We felt that the understanding of these processes had reached a degree of maturity: the basic physical principles were established and their application to engineering practice was now feasible. We concluded that the best way to organize this knowledge was to write it up in a single, coherent system. Martinus Nijhoff kindly encouraged us and generously offered their collaboration. Hence, this book. The physical process of time-dependent subcritical crack growth is rigorously defined by statistical mechanics. If well presented, the principles can be readily understood by practitioners of fracture research and design engineers. We present the physical processes of crack growth in terms of atomic interactions that assume only a working knowledge of the standard engineering materials course contents. From this, we develop a framework that is valid for any type of material, be it metallic, polymeric, ceramic, glass or mineral - indeed, any solid. We also assume an elementary exposure to fracture mechanics. An appendix is provided that outlines those aspects of fracture mechanics that are needed for an introduction to fracture kinetics analyses; it also provides a common ground for concepts and terminology (see Appendix A). We proceed through theory to applications that are of interest in research, development and design, as well as in test and operating engineering practice.

Download or read book Charged Semiconductor Defects written by Edmund G. Seebauer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-14 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defects in semiconductors have been studied for many years, in many cases with a view toward controlling their behaviour through various forms of “defect engineering”. For example, in the bulk, charging significantly affects the total concentration of defects that are available to mediate phenomena such as solid-state diffusion. Surface defects play an important role in mediating surface mass transport during high temperature processing steps such as epitaxial film deposition, diffusional smoothing in reflow, and nanostructure formation in memory device fabrication. “Charged Defects in Semiconductors” details the current state of knowledge regarding the properties of the ionized defects that can affect the behaviour of advanced transistors, photo-active devices, catalysts, and sensors. Features: group IV, III-V, and oxide semiconductors; intrinsic and extrinsic defects; and, point defects, as well as defect pairs, complexes and clusters.
