Book Integrated Maritime Security

Download or read book Integrated Maritime Security written by Dr. Prabhakaran Paleri and published by Vij Books India Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in the way that it looks at the much talked about maritime security through the perspective of national security, without disconnect, in the terrain specific mode of the ocean. The uniqueness is not in the treatment of the concept of maritime security but that of national security in a manner that is different from the beaten notion of physical security of a nation and its people from external and internal threats. National security, according to the author, is more than just military security or the conditions of what is often termed as internal security. It is complex according to his studied findings. The book provides a warning to governments that any approach to national governance without integrated maritime security can be defeating in the overall objective of maximising national security even for landlocked countries in the modern world. The book provides a comprehensive review and analysis of integrated maritime security providing ample scope for further research on many of the concepts and terminologies inculcated as findings of research. The interesting aspect is that the author views maritime security as a ghost protocol to hammer his ideas into the earnest listener.

Book China the United States and 21st Century Sea Power

Download or read book China the United States and 21st Century Sea Power written by Andrew S. Erickson and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s reaction to the United States’ new maritime strategy will significantly impact its success, according to three Naval War College professors. Based on the premise that preventing wars is as important as winning wars, this new U.S. strategy, they explain, embodies a historic reassessment of the international system and how the United States can best pursue its interests in cooperation with other nations. The authors contend that despite recent turbulence in U.S.-China military relations, substantial shared interests could enable extensive U.S.-China maritime security cooperation, as they attempt to reach an understanding of “competitive coexistence.” But for professionals to structure cooperation, they warn, Washington and Beijing must create sufficient political and institutional space.

Book Deterring America

  • Author : Derek D. Smith
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2006-05-25
  • ISBN : 1139452789
  • Pages : 11 pages

Download or read book Deterring America written by Derek D. Smith and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-05-25 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faced with America's military superiority, many countries are turning to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) as a means to deter United States intervention. However, the events of September 11 awakened America to a degree of vulnerability it had never experienced before, making it increasingly unwilling to tolerate such weapons in the hands of unstable and unpredictable regimes. Through theoretical, historical, and prescriptive lenses, this book explores the modern security dilemma created by the twin fears of American encroachment and vulnerability which form a vicious cycle of insecurity that challenges traditional notions of deterrence. Using Iraq and North Korea as case studies, Smith argues that the United States may need to re-evaluate its foreign policy strategies against WMD proliferation, giving renewed attention to defensive measures, negotiated disarmament, interdiction, and perhaps preemption.
