Download or read book Real World Poetry written by Norris Ray Peery and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-11-19 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real World Poetry contains a group of individual poems, which I wrote over a very extended period of time. Some few of these poems have singularly appeared in some of my other writings. The mood of these poems is intended to address the lack of objective truth within many of the major philosophies of the world's cultures, and to dress those wounds, of cognitive dissonance, with a dressing of hope and guidance towards a more reasonable outlook upon life, and of life's struggles to discover a meaningful perspective, which can be embraced by reasonable peoples, allowing them to find a guiding path to peace-of-mind, and some form of contentment within a world that everyday waxes and wanes between its self proclaimed ancient morals, which have grown so crumbly with time's passing, as to be without any substantial or meaningful substance.

Book Real World Poetry Book Three

Download or read book Real World Poetry Book Three written by Norris Ray Peery and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-10-19 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real World Poetry Book Three is a continuation of the style of poems of my first two poetry books. Some few of these poems have appeared as prose embedded within the text of some of my other writings. Again, the mood of these poems is intended to address the lack of objective truth within many of the world's major philosophies, and to call attention to hidden seeds, which will eventually, upon germination, determine both our near and distant futures. Some of these poems may seem overly grating, but their purpose is to awaken those few readers to the perils of worshiping forever, without reflective thought, those philosophies and mythologies, whose messages should have long ago crumbled from lack of any supportive substance and from their old, very old, age.

At a time when it seems like everyone else is getting married, snagging a dream job, and paying off their student loans, Samantha's poetry captures the voice of young people everywhere who know that your 20s can sometimes be the exact opposite of "the best years of your life."

Book Good Bones

  • Author : Maggie Smith
  • Publisher : Tupelo Press
  • Release : 2020-07-15
  • ISBN : 1946482420
  • Pages : 96 pages

Download or read book Good Bones written by Maggie Smith and published by Tupelo Press. This book was released on 2020-07-15 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring “Good Bones”—called “Official Poem of 2016” by the BBC/Public Radio International. Maggie Smith writes out of the experience of motherhood, inspired by watching her own children read the world like a book they've just opened, knowing nothing of the characters or plot. These are poems that stare down darkness while cultivating and sustaining possibility, poems that have a sense of moral gravitas, personal urgency, and the ability to address a larger world. Maggie Smith's previous books are The Well Speaks of Its Own Poison (Tupelo, 2015), Lamp of the Body (Red Hen, 2005), and three prize-winning chapbooks: Disasterology (Dream Horse, 2016), The List of Dangers (Kent State, 2010), and Nesting Dolls (Pudding House, 2005). Her poem “Good Bones” has gone viral—tweeted and translated across the world, featured on the TV drama Madam Secretary, and called the “Official Poem of 2016” by the BBC/Public Radio International, earning news coverage in the New York Times, Washington Post, Slate, the Guardian, and beyond. Maggie Smith was named the 2016 Ohio Poet of the Year. “Smith's voice is clear and unmistakable as she unravels the universe, pulls at a loose thread and lets the whole thing tumble around us, sometimes beautiful, sometimes achingly hard. Truthful, tender, and unafraid of the dark....”—Ada Limón “As if lost in the soft, bewitching world of fairy tale, Maggie Smith conceives and brings forth this metaphysical Baedeker, a guidebook for mother and child to lead each other into a hopeful present. Smith's poems affirm the virtues of humanity: compassion, empathy, and the ability to comfort one another when darkness falls. 'There is a light,' she tells us, 'and the light is good.'”—D. A. Powell “Good Bones is an extraordinary book. Maggie Smith demonstrates what happens when an abundance of heart and intelligence meets the hands of a master craftsperson, reminding us again that the world, for a true poet, is blessedly inexhaustible.”—Erin Belieu

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her singular voice—both humble and brave, touching and humorous—Maxine Hong Kingston gives us a poignant and beautiful memoir-in-verse that captures the wisdom that comes with age. As she reflects on her sixty-five years, she circles from present to past and back, from lunch with a writer friend to the funeral of a Vietnam veteran, from her long marriage to her arrest at a peace march in Washington. On her journeys as writer, peace activist, teacher, and mother, she revisits her most beloved characters—Wittman Ah-Sing, the Tripmaster Monkey, and Fa Mook Lan, the Woman Warrior—and presents us with a beautiful meditation on China then and now. The result is a marvelous account of an American life of great purpose and joy, and the tonic wisdom of a writer we have come to cherish.
