Book Sulfur Centered Reactive Intermediates in Chemistry and Biology

Download or read book Sulfur Centered Reactive Intermediates in Chemistry and Biology written by C. Chatgilialoglu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wonderfully successful NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Sulfur-Centered Reactive Intermediates in Chemistry and Biology" was held 18-30 June, 1989, at the Hotel Villa del Mare in Maratea, Italy. Despite the beautiful setting with mountains behind us and over looking the clear blue Mediterranean Sea under a cloudless sky (and with a private beach available), the lectures were extremely well attended. While some credit can go to the seriousness of the students, more must go to the calibre of speakers and the high quality of C. Chatgilialoglu, and Co-Director, Professor K. -D. their presentations. The Director, Dr. Asmus, are to be congratulated for putting together such an outstanding scientific program. Dr. Chatgilialoglu is also to be commended for arranging an equally stimulating social pro gram which included bus, train and boat trips to many local sites of interest. It was particularly fitting that a meeting on the chemistry and biochemistry of sulfur should be held in Italy since Italian chemists have made major contributions to our under standing of the organic chemistry of sulfur, including the chemistry of its reactive inter mediates. The early Italian interest in sulfur chemistry arose from the fact that Italy, or more specifically, Sicily, was a major world producer of sulfur prior to the development and exploitation of the Frasch process in Texas and Louisiana.

Book Biological Electrochemistry

Download or read book Biological Electrochemistry written by Glenn Dryhurst and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Electrochemistry, Volume I is a result of a series of lectures given regarding the electrochemistry of small and large organic and inorganic molecules and how electrochemical information helps in understanding some of the biological redox reactions of these systems. This volume ultimately focuses on the electrochemistry of small and macromolecular organic compounds. This book is divided into seven chapters where each focuses on a particular organic compound. These compounds are quinones, catecholamines, phenothiazines, ascorbic acid, purines, vitamin B12 and related compounds, and proteins. Each chapter starts with a brief introduction to the compounds and then its structure and electrochemistry aspect. The last chapter gives a detailed discussion on different kinds of proteins and their electrochemistry aspects. This volume will be of help to students as well as electrochemists, biochemists, biologists, and other scientists in the field of biotechnology.

Book Dianion Chemistry in Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Dianion Chemistry in Organic Synthesis written by Charles M. Thompson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-08-19 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many laboratories were reluctant at first to embrace dianion chemistry as part of the standard reaction repertoire. Today, however, researchers can comfortably draw upon the dianion literature to choose an abundance of reagents and strategies that are reliable, effective, and, in many cases, the best answer to a synthetic problem. This interesting book introduces, surveys, and consolidates carbon-based dianion chemistry. Chapter 1 serves as an introduction and as an index of the various dianions covered in the book. Chapters 2 through 5 cover the ensemble of dianion types designated by their first deprotonation site. Each chapter contains an experimental section that explains relevant protocols.

Book Carbon Alloys

    Book Details:
  • Author : E. Yasuda
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN : 9780080441634
  • Pages : 594 pages

Download or read book Carbon Alloys written by E. Yasuda and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the Japanese have funded a comprehensive study of carbon materials which incorporate other elements including boron, nitrogen and fluorine, hence the title of the project "Carbon Alloys". Coined in 1992, the phrase "Carbon Alloys" can be applied to those materials mainly composed of carbon materials in multi-component systems. The carbon atoms of each component have a physical and/or chemical interactive relationship with other atoms or compounds. The carbon atoms of the components may have different hybrid bonding orbitals to create quite different carbon components. Eiichi Yasuda and his team consider the definition of Carbon Alloys, present the results of the Carbon Alloys projects, describe typical Carbon Alloys and their uses, discuss recent techniques for their characterization, and finally, illustrate potential applications and future developments for Carbon Alloy science. The book contains over thirty chapters on these studies from as many researchers. The most modern of techniques, particularly in the area of spectroscopy, were used as diagnostic tools, and many of these are applicable to pure carbons also. Porosity in carbons received considerable attention.
