Book Implementing a Comprehensive Research Compliance Program

Download or read book Implementing a Comprehensive Research Compliance Program written by Aurali Dade and published by IAP. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The senior research compliance administrator has emerged as a critically important position as universities and other research organizations face an increasingly intricate regulatory environment. These administrators are tasked with a special challenge: ensuring that their institutions conduct safe, ethical, and compliant research while also helping researchers understand and meet compliance requirements and achieve their research goals. These competing responsibilities can make the role of the research administrator complex; however, those who serve in this role may find that they have limited preparation for the challenges and little or no formal education in the field. Thus, the goal of this handbook is to provide practical guidance to research administrators who are responsible for a wide variety of compliance programs. Previous volumes on these topics have focused primarily on educating research faculty, staff, and students. An assumption in many of these handbooks is that all additional questions related to research ethics and regulations should be directed to the senior research administrator; yet, the books have limited guidance intended for the senior research administrators themselves. This handbook is designed, therefore, to serve as a detailed program implementation manual for these administrators, who are expected to be conversant on a broad range of complex ethical and regulatory topics and to provide guidance to those conducting research, as well as upper administration and others interested in safe, ethical, and compliant research.

Book The European Union REACH Regulation for Chemicals

Download or read book The European Union REACH Regulation for Chemicals written by Lucas Bergkamp and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 2271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the law and practice of the European Union's new chemical regulatory programmes known under the acronym ''REACH'. REACH is intended to ensure the safe management of risks associated with chemical substances throughout the supply chain. Its scope is very broad; subject to limited exceptions, REACH applies to all bulk chemicals used in industrial processes and to chemicals present in products such as cleaning products, paints, clothing, furniture, and electrical appliances. The newly established European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the Commission, and member state authorities are in charge of administering the various parts of the REACH Regulation, creating a complex patchwork of government powers, procedures, and oversight. The volume is written by experienced REACH practitioners. It addresses both the key legal regulatory issues associated with REACH and the key management and practical challenges. In addition to analysing the scope, the processes, and the obligations of the industry under REACH, the book covers the strategy and management of REACH compliance from the perspective of the regulated entities. The focus is on the strategic and practical decisions facing companies subject to REACH's various regimes. Significant attention is paid to REACH consortia, which are a key instrument in compliance management, and to the competition law issues arising in connection with REACH consortia. It also covers legal remedies, enforcement, intellectual property rights, and civil liability for damages arising from chemical substances as well as how companies can shape their REACH compliance programme to reduce their liability exposure.

Book excerpt: Following the implementation of the new General Data Protect Regulation on 25 May 2018, organizations should now be fully compliant with their national interpretation of this far-reaching data protection standard. The reality is that most are not; whether through their inappropriate use of online cookies or ineffective physical data security, businesses continue to struggle with the increasing pressure from regulators to apply the Regulation. Non-compliance is widely due to misinterpretation, lack of real-world thinking, and challenges in balancing costs against business practicalities. This book provides insight into how to achieve effective compliance in a realistic, no-nonsense and efficient way. The authors have over 100 years’ collective international experience in security, compliance and business disciplines and know what it takes to keep companies secure and in-line with regulators’ demands. Whether your organization needs to swiftly adopt GDPR standards or apply them in “Business as Usual” this book provides a wide range of recommendations and explicit examples. With the likelihood of high-profile penalties causing major reputational damage, this book explains how to reduce risk, run a remedial project, and take immediate steps towards mitigating gaps. Written in plain English, it provides an invaluable international reference for effective GDPR adoption.

This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers and program managers are continually seeking ways to improve accountability in achieving an entity's mission. A key factor in improving accountability in achieving an entity's mission is to implement an effective internal control system. An effective internal control system helps an entity adapt to shifting environments, evolving demands, changing risks, and new priorities. As programs change and entities strive to improve operational processes and implement new technology, management continually evaluates its internal control system so that it is effective and updated when necessary. Section 3512 (c) and (d) of Title 31 of the United States Code (commonly known as the Federal Managers' Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA)) requires the Comptroller General to issue standards for internal control in the federal government.

Book Ethical Conduct of Clinical Research Involving Children

Download or read book Ethical Conduct of Clinical Research Involving Children written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-07-09 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, advances in biomedical research have helped save or lengthen the lives of children around the world. With improved therapies, child and adolescent mortality rates have decreased significantly in the last half century. Despite these advances, pediatricians and others argue that children have not shared equally with adults in biomedical advances. Even though we want children to benefit from the dramatic and accelerating rate of progress in medical care that has been fueled by scientific research, we do not want to place children at risk of being harmed by participating in clinical studies. Ethical Conduct of Clinical Research Involving Children considers the necessities and challenges of this type of research and reviews the ethical and legal standards for conducting it. It also considers problems with the interpretation and application of these standards and conduct, concluding that while children should not be excluded from potentially beneficial clinical studies, some research that is ethically permissible for adults is not acceptable for children, who usually do not have the legal capacity or maturity to make informed decisions about research participation. The book looks at the need for appropriate pediatric expertise at all stages of the design, review, and conduct of a research project to effectively implement policies to protect children. It argues persuasively that a robust system for protecting human research participants in general is a necessary foundation for protecting child research participants in particular.

Book Implementation Research in Health

Download or read book Implementation Research in Health written by David H. Peters and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2013 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in implementation research is growing, largely in recognition of the contribution it can make to maximizing the beneficial impact of health interventions. As a relatively new and, until recently, rather neglected field within the health sector, implementation research is something of an unknown quantity for many. There is therefore a need for greater clarity about what exactly implementation research is, and what it can offer. This Guide is designed to provide that clarity. Intended to support those conducting implementation research, those with responsibility for implementing programs, and those who have an interest in both, the Guide provides an introduction to basic implementation research concepts and language, briefly outlines what it involves, and describes the many opportunities that it presents. The main aim of the Guide is to boost implementation research capacity as well as demand for implementation research that is aligned with need, and that is of particular relevance to health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Research on implementation requires the engagement of diverse stakeholders and multiple disciplines in order to address the complex implementation challenges they face. For this reason, the Guide is intended for a variety of actors who contribute to and/or are impacted by implementation research. This includes the decision-makers responsible for designing policies and managing programs whose decisions shape implementation and scale-up processes, as well as the practitioners and front-line workers who ultimately implement these decisions along with researchers from different disciplines who bring expertise in systematically collecting and analyzing information to inform implementation questions. The opening chapters (1-4) make the case for why implementation research is important to decision-making. They offer a workable definition of implementation research and illustrate the relevance of research to problems that are often considered to be simply administrative and provide examples of how such problems can be framed as implementation research questions. The early chapters also deal with the conduct of implementation research, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and discussing the role of implementers in the planning and designing of studies, the collection and analysis of data, as well as in the dissemination and use of results. The second half of the Guide (5-7) detail the various methods and study designs that can be used to carry out implementation research, and, using examples, illustrates the application of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method designs to answer complex questions related to implementation and scale-up. It offers guidance on conceptualizing an implementation research study from the identification of the problem, development of research questions, identification of implementation outcomes and variables, as well as the selection of the study design and methods while also addressing important questions of rigor.
