Book The Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

Download or read book The Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification written by John Saltmarsh and published by Campus Compact. This book was released on 2018-03-31 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Carnegie Engagement Classification is designed to be a form of evidence-based documentation that a campus meets the criteria to be recognized as a community engaged institution. Editors John Saltmarsh and Mathew B. Johnson use their extensive experience working with the Carnegie Engagement Classification to offer a collection of resources for institutions that are interested in making a first-time or reclassification application for this recognition. Contributors offer insight on approaches to collecting the materials needed for an application and strategies for creating a complete and successful application. Chapters include detailed descriptions of what happened on campuses that succeeded in their application attempts and even reflection from a campus that failed on their first application. Readers can make use of worksheets at the end of each chapter to organize their own classification efforts.

Download or read book Sorting Things Out written by Geoffrey C. Bowker and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2000-08-25 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revealing and surprising look at how classification systems can shape both worldviews and social interactions. What do a seventeenth-century mortality table (whose causes of death include "fainted in a bath," "frighted," and "itch"); the identification of South Africans during apartheid as European, Asian, colored, or black; and the separation of machine- from hand-washables have in common? All are examples of classification—the scaffolding of information infrastructures. In Sorting Things Out, Geoffrey C. Bowker and Susan Leigh Star explore the role of categories and standards in shaping the modern world. In a clear and lively style, they investigate a variety of classification systems, including the International Classification of Diseases, the Nursing Interventions Classification, race classification under apartheid in South Africa, and the classification of viruses and of tuberculosis. The authors emphasize the role of invisibility in the process by which classification orders human interaction. They examine how categories are made and kept invisible, and how people can change this invisibility when necessary. They also explore systems of classification as part of the built information environment. Much as an urban historian would review highway permits and zoning decisions to tell a city's story, the authors review archives of classification design to understand how decisions have been made. Sorting Things Out has a moral agenda, for each standard and category valorizes some point of view and silences another. Standards and classifications produce advantage or suffering. Jobs are made and lost; some regions benefit at the expense of others. How these choices are made and how we think about that process are at the moral and political core of this work. The book is an important empirical source for understanding the building of information infrastructures.

Organizing is a fundamental issue in many professional fields, but these fields have only limited agreement in how they approach problems of organizing and in what they seek as their solutions. The Discipline of Organizing synthesizes insights from library science, information science, computer science, cognitive science, systems analysis, business, and other disciplines to create an Organizing System for understanding organizing. This framework is robust and forward-looking, enabling effective sharing of insights and design patterns between disciplines that weren’t possible before. The Professional Edition includes new and revised content about the active resources of the "Internet of Things," and how the field of Information Architecture can be viewed as a subset of the discipline of organizing. You’ll find: 600 tagged endnotes that connect to one or more of the contributing disciplines Nearly 60 new pictures and illustrations Links to cross-references and external citations Interactive study guides to test on key points The Professional Edition is ideal for practitioners and as a primary or supplemental text for graduate courses on information organization, content and knowledge management, and digital collections. Book WHO Classification of Tumours of the Eye

Download or read book WHO Classification of Tumours of the Eye written by Hans E. Grossniklaus and published by International Agency for Research on Cancer. This book was released on 2018-12-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO Classification of Tumours of the Eye is the 12th and final volume in the 4th edition of the WHO series on the classification of human tumors. The series (also known as the Blue Books) has long been regarded by pathologists as the gold standard for the diagnosis of tumors, and it is an indispensable guide for the design of evaluations, clinical trials, and studies involving cancer. These authoritative and concise reference books provide an international standard for anyone involved in cancer research or the care of cancer patients. Diagnostic criteria, pathological features, and genetic and other associated molecular alterations are described in a disease-oriented manner. This volume updates the existing ICD-O codes and provides new codes for use in epidemiology and cancer registration. It also provides information on clinical features, pathology, genetics, programs, and protective factors for each of the tumor types covered. The editors expect that this volume will be of particular interest to pathologists, oncologists, and ophthalmologists who manage or research tumors of the eye. Sections are included on all recognized neoplasms (and their variants) of the eye, lacrimal apparatus, and conjunctiva. There have been particularly substantial changes to the classification of conjunctival neoplasia and melanoma, based on the latest information from genetic and molecular studies. An e-book version of this title is also available. If you have already purchased the print product and wish to have the e-version as well, IARC is offering special top-up pricing. Proof of purchase will be required for customers to avail themselves of this order.

Book Classification in the Wild

Download or read book Classification in the Wild written by Konstantinos V. Katsikopoulos and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rules for building formal models that use fast-and-frugal heuristics, extending the psychological study of classification to the real world of uncertainty. This book focuses on classification--allocating objects into categories--"in the wild," in real-world situations and far from the certainty of the lab. In the wild, unlike in typical psychological experiments, the future is not knowable and uncertainty cannot be meaningfully reduced to probability. Connecting the science of heuristics with machine learning, the book shows how to create formal models using classification rules that are simple, fast, and transparent and that can be as accurate as mathematically sophisticated algorithms developed for machine learning.
