That was one of the rules David Parker Ray posted on the isolated property where he and his girlfriend Cynthia Hendy lived near New Mexico's Elephant Butte Lake. They called their windowless trailer The Toybox. Over the years they lured countless young women into its chamber of unspeakable pain and horror--and filmed every moment. A Satanist, Ray was the center of a web of sadism, sex slavery, and murder. Authorities suspect he murdered more than 60 women. In October 2011, a flood of tips led to a renewed search for the remains of more possible victims. This updated edition reveals all the details, plus the inside story on the controversial movie based on these unforgettable events. "An eye-opening journey into the world of criminal sexual sadism." --Jim Yontz, Deputy District Attorney, Albuquerque, New Mexico 16 pages of haunting photos "Darkly fascinating. . .a shocker from beginning to end." --Gregg Olsen, New York Times bestselling author

Book A Convenient Parallel Dimension

Download or read book A Convenient Parallel Dimension written by James Greene Jr. and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Rarely has a movie this expensive provided so many quotable lines.” So wrote Roger Ebert in his review of Ghostbusters, the 1984 blockbuster that handed our paranormal fears over to some of the sharpest comic minds of the day. Ghostbusters instantly resonated with audiences thanks to eye-popping special effects and crackling wit; to date, it remains the highest-grossing horror comedy of all time. The film spawned an Emmy-nominated Saturday morning cartoon, a tentpole 1989 sequel, a contentious 2016 reboot, legions of merchandise, and one of the most dedicated fan bases in history. Ghostbusters also elevated its players to superstardom, something a few cast members found more daunting than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Now, for the first time, the entire history of the slime-soaked franchise is told in A Convenient Parallel Dimension: How Ghostbusters Slimed Us Forever. The cohesion of talent during the mid-’70s comedy revolution, the seat-of-their-pants creation of the first Ghostbusters, the explosive success that seemed to mandate a franchise, the five year struggle to make Ghostbusters II, the thirty-one-year struggle to make Ghostbusters III—it’s all here, with incredible attention to detail. Thoroughly researched and engaging, A Convenient Parallel Dimension smashes long-held myths and half truths about the dynamics behind this cultural juggernaut and presents the real story, down to the last drop of ectoplasm.

But a hot date with a talented and handsome young artist reawakens tragic events from her childhood and leads her into a downward spiral of violence and revenge. A chance encounter with Dina and her date leaves retired newspaper writer Tom Williams wondering who she really is. From Atlanta he traces her roots back to a small hamlet in the Mississippi Delta and a twenty-year-old unsolved murder. As Dina’s fight for justice unfolds, she encounters an adversary more powerful than any she could have imagined. Now, she must match wits with a Russian cybercriminal and his sordid cast of associates. Sarah Radford has agreed to represent the man accused of assaulting Dina. Despite her inexperience, the young attorney begins taking apart the State’s case, only to discover that her client’s wealthy father has his own agenda. In the end, as he comes to understand Dina, it is Tom who must confront the consequences of his past mistakes. Ray Dan Parker’s breath-taking tale of exploitation and deceit explores the limits of personal ambition and the collateral damage brought on by our futile thirst for retribution. Readers of Parker’s previous works will hear echoes of Tom Williams’ search for meaning.

Book excerpt: Hoke County is located in the Sandhills region of North Carolina between the beaches and mountains. In the beginning, the countryside was covered with magnificent pine forest. Most of the early settlers were Highland Scots who started many of the region's churches. As communities grew, families were concerned about the education of their children. The first high school, Raeford Institute, was established in 1891. The village of Raeford, now the county seat, was chartered in 1901. J. W. McLauchlin, known as the father of Hoke County, was a state senator from Cumberland County. He introduced a bill in 1911 to form Hoke County from parts of Cumberland and Robeson Counties. Today the county has two golf courses, a wind tunnel, an ethanol plant, the Carolina Horse Park, Burlington Industries, and Unilever. The Fort Bragg Military Reservation covers a large part of the county, increasing the military population. Hoke is one of the top five fastest growing counties in North Carolina due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC).
