Book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory

Download or read book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory written by Richard C. Rothermel and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel beds of ponderosa pine needles and white pine needles were burned under controlled environmental conditions to determine the effects of fuel moisture and windspeed upon the rate of fire spread. Empirical formulas are presented to show the effect of these parameters. A discussion of rate of spread and some simple experiments show how fuel may be preheated before the fire reaches the fuel. The interrelationship between unit energy release rate and rate of spread produces a fire characteristics curve. Diffusion flame analysis shows good agreement when working with 1/2-inch stick fires.

Book Fuel Burning Rates of Downward Versus Horizontally Spreading Fires Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fuel Burning Rates of Downward Versus Horizontally Spreading Fires Classic Reprint written by William H. Frandsen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-08-12 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fuel Burning Rates of Downward Versus Horizontally Spreading Fires The method of obtaining w experimentally has been covered by Frandsen and Rothermel (1972) in their investigation of the reaction intensity of the combustion zone of a Spreading fire. (the rate w is properly a loss; however, the negative sense is inter nally compensated.) The reaction intensity, ir, is another important dynamic parameter of the fire. It is the total energy-release rate evolved from the combustion zone, and is related to w through h, the low heat of combustion. Book Fire Behavior in Nonuniform Fuels Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fire Behavior in Nonuniform Fuels Classic Reprint written by William H. Frandsen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fire Behavior in Nonuniform Fuels For the purposes of this study nonuniform fire behavior is predicted by modeling fire Spread through a hexagonal network of fuel cells. Fire spread is assumed to be a process of contagious growth between cells. Fuel properties are allowed to vary from cell to cell in a prescribed manner but have uniform properties within the cell. Consequently, the nonuniformity of the actual fuel array is simulated through cell to cell variations and has a resolution limited by the cell size. Because of the nature of the modeling process it is necessary to devise a scheme for collect ing data describing nonuniformity and a scheme for filling the hexagonal cell array in a manner that-simulates the actual fuel nonuniformity.
