Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rate Adaptive Cardiac Pacing" provides a comprehensive overview of this most advanced form of stimulating the heart by means of cardiac pacemakers that vary the pacing rate according to the needs of the patients. The heart rate is controlled by one or several sensors that detect various parameters such as respiration, blood temperature, oxygen saturation, intracardiac pressure, QT interval, stroke volume andbody activity. Besides describing the clinical and functional characteristics of these various sensors, the book also gives a clear understanding of hemodynamic aspects and in particular, all clinical issues of importance such as indications for rate adaptive pacing and selection of the appropriate patients for rate adaptive pacemakers, with many ECG samples. The book also covers new concepts in rate adaptive pacing such as single lead atrial synchronous pacing and the combination of various sensors, which are among the most recent developments in the field. With contributions from the most wellknown experts in the field from allover the world, this book is the first publication to cover all the hemodynamic, clinical and technical aspects of rate adaptive cardiac pacing.

Book Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology

Download or read book Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology written by André Aubert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1992, clinical cardiac electrophysiology became a recognized sub-speciality of the American Board of Internal Medicine. The formal recognition of this highly specialized and technical field of medicine represents the culmination of thirty years of remarkable scientific and intellectual discovery. Beginning in the 1950s, cardiologists realized that cardiac arrhythmias were the cause of significant morbidity and the sudden death of at least 350,000 patients every year in the United States alone. At that time the only tools available for analyzing abnormal heart rhythms were the standard EKG machine and careful deductive reasoning. During the early 1960s, cardiac pacemakers reflected the first foray in the electrical therapy of cardiac arrhythmias. Pacemakers were first implanted in order to control syncopal episodes related to bradycardic heart rhythms. Although crude and bulky devices, their utility was immediately obvious to physicians and patients alike. The recognition that electrical signals could be recorded from inside the heart and that the heart's rhythm could be controlled by the application of electrical energy began the era of clinical cardiac electrophysiology which was to follow. In the late 1960s and early 1970s and at the peak of the Vietnam conflict. a group of cardiologists with special training in cardiac electrophysiology were sequestered at the US Public Health Service Hospital at Staten Island.

Book Cardiac Pacemakers Step by Step

Download or read book Cardiac Pacemakers Step by Step written by S. Serge Barold and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years we have heard many complaints that there is no verysimple book on cardiac pacing for real beginners. We have alsoheard that all the books on cardiac pacing are too complicated andimpossible to understand by beginners. Many have voiced the hopethat one day someone would write a book in the same style asDubin’s book on basic electrocardiography which is a hugebestseller with well over a million sold in many languages. A‘Dummy’ book on cardiac pacing would appeal to nurses, cardiology technicians, medical students and pacemaker companiesfor training their staff. We started with the assumption that the reader would know theprinciples of electrocardiography as in Dubin’s book butnothing about cardiac pacing. We carefully studied the Dubin bookand believe that we have improved his teaching method. The bookconsists of numbered illustrations each illustrating a concept inthe form of a diagram drawn professionally. We have been careful tomake the artwork simple for easy comprehension. Each illustration will occupy a page and have several lines oftext below it. We have already completed most of these. It isessential that there are all in color, this is a unique sellingpoint. The 3 authors have had vast experience in the field. Dr Baroldhas published 10 books on cardiac pacing and wrote the section oncardiac pacing in the 4th and 5th Edition of Braunwald’sbook, Heat Disease." S. Serge Barold, Roland Stroobandt and Alfons Sinnaeve Content: The plates depicting a concept with occupy 1 pages. Each plateconsists of a diagram and a short text. All diagrams are in color. In black and white they would losetheir teaching value There will be approx 200 plates. There will be approx 100 electrocardiograms. There will be a glossary, appendices and index

Book The Foundations of Cardiac Pacing Part II An Illustrated Practical Guide to Rate Variable Pacing

Download or read book The Foundations of Cardiac Pacing Part II An Illustrated Practical Guide to Rate Variable Pacing written by Richard Sutton and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1999-06-09 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first clinical application of an atrial triggered ventricular pacemaker by Nathan, progress in technology has allowed the development of new pacing modes such as rate variable pulse generators, that adjust their basic rate according to physiological needs. In recent years, these new concepts have been used ever more widely, offering significant benefits to a large number of suitable patients and also to those patients who could not previously benefit from pacing. The second part of The Foundations of Cardiac Pacing, An Illustrated Guide to Rate Variable Pacing, continues the spirit of the Bakken Research Center Series and offers a contemporary overview of advanced cardiac pacing. The editors assume the reader is familiar with The Foundations of Cardiac Pacing, Part I.
