Book Reaching Algebra Readiness RAR

Download or read book Reaching Algebra Readiness RAR written by Tony G. Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research has shown that algebra is the doorway and gateway for future success of students in many aspects, including high school graduation, attending and success in college, and professional earning power. And the most important key to students’ success in algebra is their readiness. This book is not only a program that addresses algebra readiness; it is also a fundamental reform effort, based on the National Mathematics Advisory Panel’s (NMAP’s) Final Report (spring, 2008). The book approaches mathematic skills deficiencies on an individual basis, much like an IEP addresses the individual needs of a student with disabilities. The Reaching Algebra Readiness (RAR) process consists of four components: (1) Diagnostic, assessing student’s mastery of the skills needed to take algebra; (2) Prescriptive, developing an individualized plan to address specific math deficiencies; (3) Intervention, utilizing tools and resources (parental involvement, effective teaching strategies, etc), to improve students’ mathematics skills; and (4) Drills and Effective Teachings Strategies, mathematics is a discipline and, simply, there is no way of avoiding practice and drilling in reaching algebra readiness, which can be enhanced significantly by implementing proven effective teaching strategies. The Reaching Algebra Readiness (RAR) process and the related materials presented in this book will be revolutionary in helping all students acquire the math skills needed for success in algebra and beyond. This book is a must-guide for math teachers, parents who home school, parents who are looking for solutions, and educators pursuing fundamental education reforms.

  • Release : 1995-04-30
  • ISBN : 9780792330158
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Head and Neck Cancer written by Waun Ki Hong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-04-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world, head and neck cancer is a major threat to public health and a significant challenge to both clinicians and basic scientists. Despite extensive efforts in primary prevention, screening, early detection, and therapy, long-term survival rates have not improved substantially in the last three decades. This book covers a wide range of exciting new findings in both clinical and basic sciences as they are relevant to head and neck cancer. These findings have recently enhanced our understanding of head and neck carcinogenesis at the genetic and molecular levels, offering the promise of improved preventive and therapeutic strategies. This book will also present information on the important clinical advances that have been made in chemoprevention, organ preservation, and the simultaneous use of chemo therapy and radiotherapy. The first part provides an overview of the etiology and biology of head and neck cancer, including an examination of human papillomaviruses in both benign and malignant lesions. This section also discusses the carcinogenic process at the genetic and molecular levels, as well as aberrant squamous differentiation; increased understanding of these areas has great potential to translate into new strategies for cancer prevention. The second part describes recent advances in developing a risk model for head and neck cancer, as well as the application of genetic susceptibility data in chemoprevention. This section also includes overviews of the status of chemoprevention trials and of the process of invasion and metastasis in head and neck cancer.

Book Retinoids in Normal Development and Teratogenesis

Download or read book Retinoids in Normal Development and Teratogenesis written by Gillian Morriss-Kay and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retinoic acid is of major importance in the regulation of normal gene expression in both embryonic and adult cells, through binding to, and activation of, specific retinoic acid receptors in the nucleus. Other nuclear receptors may bind to different retinoids. In the embryo, tissue and stage-specific distribution patterns of the different receptors, and of the cytoplasmic retinoid binding proteins, provide an underlying basis for the richly varied and changing pattern of retinoid-related developmental gene expression. This book provides an up-to-date review of recent progress in understanding the roles of retinoids in both normal and abnormal differentiation, morphogenesis, and pattern formation. It integrates molecular, cellular and embryonic approaches.
