Book Handbook of Rare Earth Elements

Download or read book Handbook of Rare Earth Elements written by Alfred Golloch and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-04-24 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Rare Earth Elements focuses on the essential role of modern instrumental analytics in the recycling, purification and analysis of rare earth elements. Due to their numerous applications, e.g. in novel magnetic materials for computer hardware, mobile phones and displays, rare earth elements have become a strategic and valuable resource. The detailed knowledge of rare earth element contents at every step of their life cycle is of great importance. This reference work was compiled with contribution from an international team of expert authors from Academia and Industry to presend a comprehensive discussion on the state-of-the-art of rare earth element analysis for industrial and scientific purposes, recycling processes and purification of REEs from various sources. Written with Analytical Chemists, Inorganic Chemists, Spectroscopists as well as Industry Practitioners in mind, the Handbook of Rare Earth Elements is an indispensable reference for everyone working with rare earth elements.

Book Quantifyng Rare Earth Element Content in High Concentrated Samples by K0 NAA

Download or read book Quantifyng Rare Earth Element Content in High Concentrated Samples by K0 NAA written by Maryam Abdollahi Neisiani and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rare earth elements (REE) are comprised of lanthanide series, from lanthanum to lutetiumplus scandium and yttrium. Due to the rising applications of REEs in different fields oftechnology a lot of attention has been drawn to the extraction of these elements. Therefore, areliable and accurate characterization technique is required to determine variable levels of REEsstarting from mineral matrices all the way to processed samples. The aim of this work is toevaluate the capability of k0-neutron activation analysis (k0-NAA) implemented at PolytechniqueMontreal for accurate determination of rare earth elements in high concentrated mineral matrices. Individual factors affecting the measurements including nuclear data used for the calculations, neutron temperature effects, nuclear interferences, spectral interferences, gamma-ray selfattenuation and neutron self-shielding were investigated. Mono rare earth element standardsolutions and rare earth oxides were used to investigate these phenomena separately. Severalimprovements were applied to the current method. Analysis protocols were optimized in terms ofirradiation, decay and counting times to obtain accurate results in shorter turnaround times, anduncertainty contributions from aforementioned factors were evaluated. To validate the overallcapability of the improved k0-NAA method for REE, a certified reference material (CRM) fromCanadian Certified Reference Materials Project (REE-2) with REE content ranging from 7.2 mgkg-1for Yb to 9610 mg kg-1for Ce was used. The REE concentration was determined withuncertainty below 7% (at 95% confidence level) and proved to be consistent with the CRMcertified concentrations.
