Book Decays of J psi 3100 to Baryon Final States

Download or read book Decays of J psi 3100 to Baryon Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results for the decays of psi(3100) into baryon and hyperon final states. The sample studied here consists of 1.3 million produced psi decays. The decays into nonstrange baryons agree well with currently established results, but with better statistics. In addition, significant resonance formation in multibody final states is observed. The decay psi .-->. anti pp.gamma., the first direct photon decay of the psi involving baryons in the final state, is presented and the theoretical implications of the decays are briefly explored. Several new decays of the psi involving strange baryons are explored, including the first observations of three body final states involving hyperons. The I-spin symmetry of the strong decay psi .-->. baryons has clearly been observed. The reduced matrix elements for psi .-->. B anti B are presented for final states of different SU(3) content. The B anti B8 results are in excellent agreement with the psi being an SU(3) singlet as are the results for psi .-->. B10 anti B10. We present the first evidence for the SU(3) violating decays of the type psi .-->. B8 anti B10 + c.c. Angular distributions for psi .-->. B8 anti B8 are presented and compared with theoretical predictions. Statistics are limited, but the data tends to prefer other than a 1 + Cos2theta distribution.

Book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR

Download or read book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results from BaBar experiment for the measurement of inclusive and exclusive branching fractions of B mesons into final states containing J/[psi], [psi](2S) and [chi]c. The contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B° 2!J/[psi]K*° are determined from an angular analysis. We report the measurements of the branching ratios B° 2!D* D*− and D* D*− K{sub S}°, and the study of exclusive two-body and quasi-two-body charmless decays. The branching fraction of the decay B° 2!K*°[gamma] has been determined and the corresponding CP asymmetry has been measured.

Book Inclusive Rare B Decays Using Effective Field Theories

Download or read book Inclusive Rare B Decays Using Effective Field Theories written by Christian Bauer and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis we will discuss several properties of rare decays of ' B' mesons. First we discuss properties of the inclusive radiative decay 'B¢' [right arrow] 'Xs'ã, where 'Xs' stands for any hadronic state containing an 's' quark. We extend previous studies of this decay, which included perturbative corrections to order Ã's' and nonperturbative contributions up to order ([Lambda]QCD/' mb')2 and calculate the O ([Lambda]QCD/'mb')3 contributions to this decay. The values of the nonperturbative parameters entering at this order are unknown, leading to uncertainties in the standard model prediction of this decay. We estimate the size of these nonperturbative uncertainties by varying these parameters in the range suggested by dimensional analysis. We also estimate uncertainties arising from a cut on the photon energy which is required experimentally. Another decay mode investigated is 'B¢' [right arrow] ' Xs'3⁄4+3⁄4-. We study the O ([Lambda]QCD/'mb')3 contributions to the leptonic invariant mass spectrum, the forward-backward asymmetry and hadronic invariant mass moments and estimate the resulting uncertainties. We calculate how the size of these uncertainties depend on the value of an experimental cut that has to be applied to eliminate the large background from other 'B' decays. A model independent way to determinate the CKM matrix element @' Vub'@ from the dilepton invariant mass spectrum of the inclusive decay B[right arrow]Xu3⁄4+ n is presented next. We show that cuts required to eliminate the charm background still allow for a theoretically clean way to determine the CKM matrix element @'Vub'@. We also discuss the utility of the 'B¢' [right arrow] 'Xs'3⁄4 +3⁄4- decay rate above the y (2'S') resonance to reduce the resulting uncertainties. Finally, we introduce a novel effective theory valid for highly energetic particles. In decays where the phase space is sufficiently restricted such that final state particles have very high energies compared to their mass, the perturbative as well as nonperturbative series diverge. The effective theory presented allows to sum perturbative Sudakov logarithms in a framework that also incorporates the nonperturbative physics in such limits of phase space.

Book B Decays Revised 2nd Edition

Download or read book B Decays Revised 2nd Edition written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-08-01 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of 'B Decays”. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of “Penguin” mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the “Standard Model” and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Evidence for B 2 J psi P bar Lambda and Search for B 2 J psi P bar P

Download or read book Evidence for B 2 J psi P bar Lambda and Search for B 2 J psi P bar P written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have performed a search for the decays B 2!J/[psi]p{bar {Lambda}} and B° 2!J/[psi]p{bar p} in a data set of (88.9 ± 1.0) x 106 [Upsilon](4S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II ee− storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Four charged B candidates have been observed with an expected background of 0.21 ± 0.14 events. The corresponding branching fraction is (12−6{sup +9} x 10−6), where statistical and systematic uncertainties have been combined. The result can be interpreted as a 90% confidence level (CL) upper limit of 26 x 10−6. We also find one B° candidate, with an expected background of 0.64 ± 0.17 events, implying a 90% CL upper limit of 1.9 x 10−6.
