Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rare and Valuable Books, Incunabula, Woodcutbooks, Important Library-Works This catalogue, comprising a selection from the acquisitions we made within the last few months, contains a number of valuable books and Library sets very rarely found for sale. We are thus in a position to offer an opportunity, such as will seldom occur again, to any library or collector desirous to acquire fine copies, solidly bound, of the most important works on the Fine Arts, Bibliography, History and Geography. We have been enabled to present this unusual selection chiefly by two fortunate circumstances, the disposal of a number of Duplicates of the Imperial Library in Vienna and the sale of the famous old Inzaghi-Library, both secured by our firm. The renowned Vienna Imperial Library having been taken over by the Austrian Republic together with some other special libraries formed by members of the former Imperial Family, has exchanged a number of duplicates resulting from this combination against other works not possessed so far by that institute. The duplicates dispensed with come mostly from the former private collection of the Emperor Francis I. (1792 1835) and thus we find in this catalogue the marvellous copy of Napoleons great work on Egypt (No. 386) with coloured plates on papier velin, which we reproduce as a frontispice of this catalogue. This copy must have been presented to Francis I., who was the father of Marie Louise and thus Napoleon's father-in-law.
