Download or read book Rapidity Correlations and Delta G from Prompt Photon Plus Jet Production in Polarized Pp Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of prompt photon plus associated jet production is performed at next-to-leading order (O([alpha][alpha]{sub s}2)) in QCD at √S = 200--500 GeV, appropriate for the RHIC polarized {rvec p}{rvec p} collider experiment. Momentum correlations between the jet and photon are examined and the utility of the process as a method for constraining the size and shape of the polarized gluon density of the proton [Delta]G is examined.

Book Correlations Between Jets and Charged Particles in PbPb and Pp Collisions at sqrt s mathrm NN

Download or read book Correlations Between Jets and Charged Particles in PbPb and Pp Collisions at sqrt s mathrm NN written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the quark-gluon plasma is studied via medium-induced changes to correlations between jets and charged particles in PbPb collisions compared to pp reference data. This analysis uses data sets from PbPb and pp collisions with integrated luminosities of 166 inverse microbarns and 5.3 inverse picobarns, respectively, collected at $ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=2.76 $ TeV. The angular distributions of charged particles are studied as a function of relative pseudorapidity ([Delta][eta]) and relative azimuthal angle ([Delta][Phi]) with respect to reconstructed jet directions. Charged particles are correlated with all jets with transverse momentum (pT) above 120 GeV, and with the leading and subleading jets (the highest and second-highest in pT, respectively) in a selection of back-to-back dijet events. Modifications in PbPb data relative to pp reference data are characterized as a function of PbPb collision centrality and charged particle pT. A centrality-dependent excess of low-pT particles is present for all jets studied, and is most pronounced in the most central events. This excess of low-pT particles follows a Gaussian-like distribution around the jet axis, and extends to large relative angles of [Delta][eta] ≈ 1 and [Delta][Phi] ≈ 1.

The individual chapters are written by teams of expert authors working at the forefront of LHC research.

Book Ultrarelativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Ultrarelativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by Ramona Vogt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-06-04 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in high energy heavy-ion physics. It is relevant for students who will work on topics being explored at RHIC and the LHC. In the first part, the basic principles of these studies are covered including kinematics, cross sections (including the quark model and parton distribution functions), the geometry of nuclear collisions, thermodynamics, hydrodynamics and relevant aspects of lattice gauge theory at finite temperature. The second part covers some more specific probes of heavy-ion collisions at these energies: high mass thermal dileptons, quarkonium and hadronization. The second part also serves as extended examples of concepts learned in the previous part. Both parts contain examples in the text as well as exercises at the end of each chapter. - Designed for students and newcomers to the field- Focuses on hard probes and QCD- Covers all aspects of high energy heavy-ion physics- Includes worked example problems and exercises

Book Multiple Parton Interactions at the LHC

Download or read book Multiple Parton Interactions at the LHC written by Paolo Bartalini and published by World Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many high-energy collider experiments (including the current Large Hadron Collider at CERN) involve the collision of hadrons. Hadrons are composite particles consisting of partons (quarks and gluons), and this means that in any hadron–hadron collision there will typically be multiple collisions of the constituents — i.e. multiple parton interactions (MPI). Understanding the nature of the MPI is important in terms of searching for new physics in the products of the scatters, and also in its own right to gain a greater understanding of hadron structure. This book aims at providing a pedagogical introduction and a comprehensive review of different research lines linked by an involvement of MPI phenomena. It is written by pioneers as well as young leading scientists, and reviews both experimental findings and theoretical developments, discussing also the remaining open issues.

Book The Physics of the Quark Gluon Plasma

Download or read book The Physics of the Quark Gluon Plasma written by Sourav Sarkar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to offer to the next generation of young researchers a broad and largely self-contained introduction to the physics of heavy ion collisions and the quark-gluon plasma, providing material beyond that normally found in the available textbooks. For each of the main aspects - QCD thermodynamics and global features of the QGP, collision hydrodynamics, electromagnetic probes, jet and quarkonium production, color glass condensate, and the gravity connection - the present volume provides extensive and pedagogical lectures, surveying the present status of both theory and experiment. A particular feature of this volume is that all lectures have been written with the active assistance of selected students present at the course in order to ensure the adequate level and coverage for the intended readership.
