Book Rapid Tests for Aggregate and Concrete

Download or read book Rapid Tests for Aggregate and Concrete written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: A simple and portable instrument for use in estimating the compressive strength of hardened concrete in place has been developed recently by a Swiss engineer. The device, popularly known as the Swiss hammer, is designed for field use and is not intended as a substitute for control testing. Paper 2: This report describes a freezing and thawing procedure which requires about the same test period as the sulfate soundness test. The accelerated action of this test resulted from the use of a water-alcohol solution as the freezing medium rather than water.

Book Rapid Test Methods for Asphalt Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete

Download or read book Rapid Test Methods for Asphalt Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete written by Woodrow J. Halstead and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to materials and construction engineers, and others interested in the use of rapid test methods for asphalt concrete and portland cement concrete. Information is provided on the various test methods in use for process control and acceptance of these materials, as well as methods under development. State experience with these procedures, as well as discussions from the literature, are presented. There is growing use of rapid test methods for asphalt concrete and portland cement concrete in highway construction. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the current state of the practice with respect to the use of rapid test methods for these materials. Experience with short-cut and rapid test procedures for process control and acceptance is summarized, and a general description of the methods, their advantages and disadvantages, and their time and labor requirements are discussed based on a review of the literature and a survey of the states.

Book Alkali Aggregate Reaction in Concrete

Download or read book Alkali Aggregate Reaction in Concrete written by Ian Sims and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alkali-Aggregate Reaction in Concrete: A World Review is unique in providing authoritative and up to date expert information on the causes and effects of Alkali-Aggregate Reaction (AAR) in concrete structures worldwide. In 1992 a first edition entitled The Alkali-Silica Reaction in Concrete, edited by Professor Narayan Swamy, was published in a first attempt to cover this concrete problem from a global perspective, but the coverage was incomplete. This completely new edition offers a fully updated and more universal coverage of the world situation concerning AAR and includes a wealth of new evidence and research information that has accumulated in the intervening years. Although there are various textbooks offering readers sections that deal with AAR deterioration and damage to concrete, no other single book brings together the views of recognised international experts in the field, and the wealth of scattered research information that is available. It provides a ‘state of the art’ review and deals authoritatively with the mechanisms of AAR, its diagnosis and how to treat concrete affected by AAR. It is illustrated by numerous actual examples from around the world, and comprises specialist contributions provided by senior engineers and scientists from many parts of the world. The book is divided into two distinct but complementary parts. The first five chapters deal with the most recent findings concerning the mechanisms involved in the reaction, methods concerning its diagnosis, testing and evaluation, together with an appraisal of current methods used in its avoidance and in the remediation of affected concrete structures. The second part is divided into eleven chapters covering each region of the world in turn. These chapters have been written by experts with specialist knowledge of AAR in the countries involved and include an authoritative appraisal of the problem and its solution as it affects concrete structures in the region. Such an authoritative compilation of information on AAR has not been attempted previously on this scale and this work is therefore an essential source for practising and research civil engineers, consultant engineers and materials scientists, as well as aggregate and cement producers, designers and concrete suppliers, especially regarding projects outside their own region.

Book Aggregates in Concrete

Download or read book Aggregates in Concrete written by Mark Alexander and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-02-25 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together in one volume the latest research and information, this book provides a detailed guide to the selection and use of aggregates in concrete. After an introduction defining the purpose and role of aggregates in concrete, the authors present an overview of aggregate sources and production techniques, followed by a detailed study of their physical, mechanical and chemical properties. This knowledge is then applied to the use of aggregates in both plastic and hardened concretes, and in the overall mix design. Special aggregates and their applications are discussed in detail, as are the current main specifications, standards and tests.

Book One cycle Slow freeze Test for Evaluating Aggregate Performance in Frozen Concrete

Download or read book One cycle Slow freeze Test for Evaluating Aggregate Performance in Frozen Concrete written by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigation was conducted to develop a simple and fast test that could be used to identify aggregates that cause poor concrete performance when frozen. A one-cycle slow- freeze test was developed and evaluated by correlating results with the durability factor obtained from astm method c290 (the standard freezing and thawing test in water). The test method and testing procedures are presented in detail.

Book Rapid Test Methods for Field Control of Highway Construction

Download or read book Rapid Test Methods for Field Control of Highway Construction written by John D. Antrim and published by National Academy Press. This book was released on 1970 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research was conducted to determine the state of the art in the development, need, and use of rapid test methods. The first phase comprises a literature survey of current practices in quality control and acceptance testing, along with a study using statistical methods to assess the time limits for rapid tests. The second phase is concerned with the development and evaluation of new rapid test methods or principles to select those worthy of further investigation. thirty-eight state highway departments participated in the study, and interviews were conducted when appropriate. The second phase of the study applied to rapid test methods for asphalt content determination, compaction control, gradation of several types of aggregate, density of base course materials and soils, and moisture content. The results of all tests are appended.
