Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS), which has gained worldwide acceptance as an analytical technique. FAAS offers 100-1000 times better determination and detection limits than other techniques for a majority of the elements. This technique requires a small sample size, and demands less sample-preparation time than others. The handbook is a collection of thousands of references for detection and determination of various elements in agricultural products, biological and clinical samples, and metallurgical and electronic materials. Each chapter is devoted to an element or a similar group of elements. Included are instrumental setup parameters, references, and author and subject indexes. Also presented are detailed appendixes covering glossary, list of manufacturers of spectrophotometers and its accessories, list of chemical suppliers, and list of reviews and abstracts. The handbook covers topics such as heavy metals, clinical products, and trace metal analysis. This desk-top reference is meant for chemists who handle day-to-day analysis problems in laboratories in government, clinical, industrial and academic settings. It is invaluable for those involved in research in environmental science, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry and forensic science.

Book Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis

Download or read book Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis written by Zoltan Mester and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-16 with total page 1339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the collection of a sample, every analytical chemist will agree that its subsequent preservation and processing are of paramount importance. The availability of high performance analytical instrumentation has not diminished this need for careful selection of appropriate pretreatment methodologies, intelligently designed to synergistically elicit optimum function from these powerful measurement tools. Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis is a modern, comprehensive treatise, providing an account of the state-of-the art on the subject matter. The book has been conceived and designed to satisfy the varied needs of the practicing analytical chemist. It is a multi-author work, reflecting the diverse expertise arising from its highly qualified contributors. The first five chapters deal with general issues related to the determination of trace metals in varied matrices, such as sampling, contamination control, reference materials, calibration and detection techniques. The second part of the book deals with extraction and sampling technologies (totaling 15 chapters), providing theoretical and practical hints for the users on how to perform specific extractions. Subsequent chapters overview seven major representative matrices and the sample preparation involved in their characterization. This portion of the book is heavily based on the preceding chapters dealing with extraction technologies. The last ten chapters are dedicated to sample preparation for trace element speciation.- First title to provide comprehensive sample preparation information, dealing specifically with the analysis of samples for trace elements. - The 39 chapters are authored by international leaders of their fields.

Book The Separation and Determination by Atomic absorption Spectrophotometry of Trace Elements in High purity Platinum and Palladium Materials Laboratory Method No 78 35

Download or read book The Separation and Determination by Atomic absorption Spectrophotometry of Trace Elements in High purity Platinum and Palladium Materials Laboratory Method No 78 35 written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description is given of the separation procedures that allow the measurement, by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), of trace impurities, including other noble metals and base metals, in high-purity platinum or palladium materials. The report describes in detail the procedure for the separation of platinum from palladium when either element is present as the major constituent in the sample material. The separation procedure involves extraction of the palladium as the dimethylglyoxime complex into chloroform. The mean recoveries of platinum and palladium, after separation and measurement by AAS, are better than 95 per cent, with relative standard deviations ranging between 1,2 and 3,2 per cent.

Book Laboratory Method No 78 8 The Determination by Atomic absorption Spectroscopy of Platinum Palladium Rhodium Ruthenium and Gold in the Presence of Base Metals

Download or read book Laboratory Method No 78 8 The Determination by Atomic absorption Spectroscopy of Platinum Palladium Rhodium Ruthenium and Gold in the Presence of Base Metals written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for the determination, by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry, of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, and gold is described. Vanadium in a perchloric acid medium is used as a releasing agent for the removal of interferences. Tin, magnesium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, aluminium, selenium, tellurium, calcium, copper, or sodium, in amounts below 5 g/l, and gold in an amount below 1 g/l, do not interfere. Silver and lead in amounts above 0.02 g/l may cause some loss of noble metals because of occlusion in the chloride precipitate formed. SO4(2-) above 1.5 g/l may cause an interference, and iron may cause a loss of gold owing to the reduction of this noble metal. The method is rapid, since all the noble metals can be measured in one solution, and is suitable for the analysis of solutions resulting from the nickel sulphide or tin collection procedures. Coefficients of variation for all the noble meals are less than 1 1/2 per cent.
