Book Rapid Load Testing on Piles

Download or read book Rapid Load Testing on Piles written by Paul Holscher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-10-14 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Rapid Load Test (RLT), developed to determine the initial stiffness and bearing capacity, is an economical and practical alternative to a Static Load Test (SLT). The broad application of RLT, however, was hampered by uncertainty about the interpretation of the test results. This book offers clear guidance on the available analysis techniques and their reliability. The guidelines were related to an international standard that is drawn up by CEN and can be used in two ways: Straightforward interpretation of test results, chapters 1-3 Interpretation with additional background information about the possibilities and limitations, chapters 4-8 The guidelines were drawn up by the Dutch CUR-committee on rapid load testing on piles. Chapters 1 and 2 deal with the practical execution of the test and the presentation of the results. Chapter 3 gives a general overview of existing interpretation methods and refers to step-by-step descriptions of the two advised interpretation methods. The aspects that are important for the interpretation are discussed in chapter 4, also showing that the inertia of the pile should be taken into account. In clay soil the rate effect (the dependency of strength and stiffness on loading rate) is also of importance, whereas in sand and silt the generation of pore water pressures during an RLT plays a role. The velocity of the RLT is such that the reaction of sand and silt might be considered as partially drained. These guidelines indicate how these effects can be compensated to obtain the static resistance in the final results. Chapter 5 presents two interpretation methods (a method for piles in sand, gravel, silt and piles on rock and a method for piles in clay). For practical use, the methods are described in a step-by-step scheme in an appendix.

Book Rapid Load Testing on Piles

Download or read book Rapid Load Testing on Piles written by Paul Holscher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-08-28 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To obtain data about the stiffness and bearing capacity of a foundation pile, the Rapid Load Test could be an effective and economic alternative for a static load test. In order to judge this, the influence of rate effects in clay and pore water pressures in sand should first be understood. This book presents the latest developments in the research that is carried out to unravel these effects. It contains current contributions by world wide leading academics. Moreover the editors summarize the empirical field data and discuss advanced centrifuge modeling. This indispensable information source on the progress in Rapid Load Testing is intended for researchers and professionals working on the load testing of foundation piles.

Book Interpretation of Rapid Pile Load Testing

Download or read book Interpretation of Rapid Pile Load Testing written by Lam Van Duc and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, the rapid pile load testing has been used frequently by geotechnical engineers in the world. Comparing to static load testing, the rapid method is quicker and more efficient. However suitable techniques shall be used for obtaining load-displacement curves from rapid load test results. Among methods in literatures, the Unloading Point method can be considered as the simplest and most common. It performs well in sandy soil, but over-predicts the capacity of piles in clayey soils. Therefore, a new technique which performs well in both of sandy and clayey grounds is proposed in this study. Moreover, the existing dynamic pile load test is modified to approximately meet the requirements of rapid test on driven piles. The modification and illustration of rapid tests on driven piles are carried out by GRLWEAP 2010.

Book Intermediate Offshore Foundations

Download or read book Intermediate Offshore Foundations written by Steve Kay and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-20 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermediate foundations are used as anchors for floating platforms and ancillary structures, foundations for steel jackets, and to support seafloor equipment and offshore wind turbines. When installed by suction, they are an economical alternative to piling, and also may be completely removed. They are usually circular in plan and are essentially rigid when laterally loaded. Length to diameter embedment ratios, L/D, generally vary between 0.5 and 10, spanning the gap between shallow and deep foundations, although these are indicative boundaries and the response, rather than the embedment ratio, defines an intermediate foundation. The first chapters introduce foundation types; compare shallow, intermediate and deep foundation models and design; define unique design issues that make intermediate foundations distinct from shallow and deep foundations, as well as list their hazards that mainly occur during installation. Later chapters cover installation, in-place resistance and in-place response, and miscellaneous design considerations. There is no general agreement as to which design methods/models are appropriate, so models should only be as accurate as the data. Therefore, several reasonably accurate models are provided together with comprehensive discussion and advice. Example calculations and over 200 references are also included. This is the first book dedicated to the geotechnical design of intermediate foundations, and it will appeal to professional engineers specialising in the offshore industry.

Book Users Manual for the Texas Quick load Method for Foundation Load Testing

Download or read book Users Manual for the Texas Quick load Method for Foundation Load Testing written by H. D. Butler and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation has developed and implemented a "quick-load" method for load testing piling and drilled shafts. Using this method a load test can be completed in a relatively short time of one to two hours. On small projects where the time consuming AASHTO test cannot be economically justified, use of this test makes it feasible to use full-scale load tests to verify foundation designs on these jobs. The purpose of the information presented herein is to assist highway engineers in understanding, using, and applying quick-load test methods. Additionally it will provide them with the information necessary to prepare specifications and cost estimates for quick-load testing
