Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was incorporated into international law in 1989. Since its adoption, it has been ratified by nearly all member nations. An outline of the basic rights of all persons under the age of 18, the Convention has various implications and its importance cannot be contested. This collection focuses on children's rights as defined by the U.N. Convention, and their relevance in both national and international contexts. The contributors discuss the Convention from different disciplinary perspectives, but are united in the belief that it is a tool to be utilized and contextualized by individuals, institutions, and communities. If there is a single conviction to be found throughout Children's Rights it is that the rights of the child are far too important to be left to states alone to provide and protect. To paint a detailed picture of the subject as a whole, the volume looks at situations in which the basic rights of children are often denied such as violent social conflict, parental abandonment, and social inequality. Consisting of thirteen essays by prominent scholars, it is an in-depth and interdisciplinary exploration of the significance of children's rights, and a tremendous resource for those working with children and youth in institutional and educational settings.

Book excerpt: Whether your Sundays are for going hiking, going to church, or doing chores, have you ever had the stray thought: What does a pastor do, anyway, outside of those Sunday services? From comical and silly to poignant and profound, from sweet and generous to outrageous and all-too-human – the many stories in Pastor Is a Verb: Life Beyond Sunday draw you in, giving an entertaining and illuminating account of one Lutheran pastor’s experiences as he shares his stories from more than fifty years of serving in a variety of settings. Extraordinary and truly unexpected things may come a pastor’s way – you will read about them in these stories, as well as some of the more mundane activities that you never knew fill a pastor’s week and life. These wide-ranging, honest, and inviting stories are an attempt to answer the question the author has been asked throughout his career, “What do you actually do during the week, Pastor?”

Book Ke Garne

Download or read book Ke Garne written by Lani Kay Ackerman MD FAAFP and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-03-10 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ke Garne, a common Nepali phrase which literally means, What to do? embodies the thinking of millions of people living in the Himalayas steeped in the belief that their karma has destined them to poverty and hopelessness. In 1991 an enthusiastic young couple, a medical doctor and an ecologist, left their jobs and sold everything to take the good news of Christ to a remote area of the Himalayas closed to traditional missions. God led them to establish and lead an organization, Health Environmental and Learning Program (H.E.L.P.), which has combined the principles of the Bible and wholistic sustainable development, following the model of Jesuss ministry. Ke garne is the fruit from decades of boots-on-the-ground, sacrificial devotion Want to be guided and inspired by exemplary, real-life Christian community development? It is here in your hands. Nicholas Comninellis, MD MPH DIM&PH, Pres. & CEO, Institute for International Medicine The Ackermans are the proof that the Holy Spirit still anoints and empowers those He chooses to spread Christ's Gospel in the most effective ways in the places most needed. If allowed, God has no limits. Lamar McNew, MD, Retired Professor, Texas A&M College of Medicine, Chairman of H.E.L.P. board. As I read these pages and re-heard their story, precious memories of trusting the Lord for direction and provisions flooded my soul. Meet this special family, and be challenged by their obedience to the Great Commission. Dr. Don Higginbotham, Retired Pastor This is a book that 21st Century Christians must read! In an age of toxic charity and misdirected mission efforts, this is a book that issues a call for mission work that starts on the inside and moves outward. Ive personally seen this ministry in action in Nepal, and without a doubt, the church needs to embrace this model! Reverend Jerry House, Pastor

Book Understanding the Middle East Peace Process

Download or read book Understanding the Middle East Peace Process written by Asima Ghazi-Bouillon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-01-30 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the evolution of the Israeli academic debate over history, politics, and collective identity, Understanding the Middle East Peace Process examines the Middle East peace process since Oslo and follows the discursive struggle over Israeli collective identity. Based on interviews with key protagonists, this book gives a detailed analysis of the interrelatedness of academic debate, societal discourse, and collective identity against the background of major political events in Israel. It charts the ascendancy and expansion of post-Zionism, outlines the emergence of neo-Zionism from the political right, and the re-appropriation of Zionism in light of the new political climate of peace-making. Ghazi-Bouillon provides a new perspective on the failure of the New Historians to revolutionize Israeli intellectual life and the failure of post-Zionism to revolutionize Israeli political life, whilst assessing neo-Zionism’s potential to do both.
