Book Hollywood s Team

Download or read book Hollywood s Team written by Jim Hock and published by Vireo Book, A. This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2016, after twenty years in St. Louis, the Rams are back in their longtime home. Some call their return to Los Angeles a relocation, but it's more the restoration of a city landmark. Hollywood's Team follows the Rams of the 1950s. They were glamorous, glitzy, and most of all, they were exciting. Like the city itself, the Rams were comprised of both big stars and everyday workhorses like John Hock, father of the author--a quiet, humble, and stout offensive guard. They were the first major professional sports team west of the Mississippi River, the first to integrate, even before Jackie Robinson, the first team to reach a million fans, and the first team with a TV contract. The Rams of the 1950s were, in so many ways, the first modern sports franchise. Their roster is a who's who of the NFL Hall Fame. Names such as quarterback Norm "The Dutchman" Van Brocklin, wide receiver Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch, Bob Waterfield, Tom Fears, defensive back Dick "Night Train" Lane, and linebacker Les Richter. Other notables from the era include a wunderkind public relations man named Pete Rozelle who would go on to become the boy commissioner of the NFL at age thirty-three. Head coach Sid Gillman was an architect ofthe modern passing game. Owner Dan Reeves was a genius in business, but troubled by alcohol. Heck, even the iconic comedian Bob Hope was a partial owner of the Rams at the time. The Rams were Hollywood's team. This is their story.

Book The Cleveland Rams

Download or read book The Cleveland Rams written by James C. Sulecki and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2016 the Rams left St. Louis for Los Angeles—having departed L.A. for St. Louis in 1995—and caused much heartbreak among fans. NFL teams are notorious for decamping to more profitable markets and the Rams’ history of opportunistic moves goes back to 1946, when they left Cleveland, their original hometown, where fans had cheered them to a championship a month earlier. The move to L.A. from Cleveland shocked the NFL and shook up its power structure. It also jolted the all-white league into reintegration, prepared the way for the Browns, and made the Rams the only NFL champs ever to have spent the following season in a different city. This is the story of how the Rams went from a home-grown Ohio team funded by local businessmen to the first major-league franchise on the West Coast, and how their departure jumpstarted a chain of events in Cleveland that continues to this day.

Book Integrated Circuit and System Design

Download or read book Integrated Circuit and System Design written by Enrico Macii and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-08-24 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WelcometotheproceedingsofPATMOS2004,thefourteenthinaseriesofint- national workshops. PATMOS 2004 was organized by the University of Patras with technical co-sponsorship from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Over the years, the PATMOS meeting has evolved into an important - ropean event, where industry and academia meet to discuss power and timing aspects in modern integrated circuit and system design. PATMOS provides a forum for researchers to discuss and investigate the emerging challenges in - sign methodologies and tools required to develop the upcoming generations of integrated circuits and systems. We realized this vision this year by providing a technical program that contained state-of-the-art technical contributions, a keynote speech, three invited talks and two embedded tutorials. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects, with particular emphasis on modelling, design, charac- rization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. This year a record 152 contributions were received to be considered for p- sible presentation at PATMOS. Despite the choice for an intense three-day m- ting, only 51 lecture papers and 34 poster papers could be accommodated in the single-track technical program. The Technical Program Committee, with the - sistance of additional expert reviewers, selected the 85 papers to be presented at PATMOS and organized them into 13 technical sessions. As was the case with the PATMOS workshops, the review process was anonymous, full papers were required, and several reviews were received per manuscript.
