Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A popular breed of cat, the ragamuffin is distinguished by its distinctive appearance, affectionate personality, and ami able disposition. These cats are frequently characterized as being big, strong, and well-boned, with a coat that is semi-long and available in a range of hues and patterns. Ragamuffins are well-liked companions for both families and individuals because of their endearing blue eyes and charming faces. Some essential traits and attributes of Ragamuffin cats are as follows: - Look: Semi-longhaired ragamuffins are big, robust cats with a silky, velvety coat. They have a large chest, a bushy tail, and a round head with a characteristic Roman nose. Usually blue or aqua in color, their eyes are big and expressive. - Colors and Patterns of Coat: Ragamuffins are available in a multitude of colors and patterns, including as solid, bi-color, and mitted variants. The coat may have any color, and among the patterns are tabby, tortoiseshell, and colorpoint. - Personality: A prominent characteristic of Ragamuffins is their amiable and loving demeanor. They are renowned for their kindness, sociability, and compatibility with kids and other animals. For people looking for a caring feline buddy, ragamuffins are excellent companions since they frequently love to be handled and petted. - Knowledge and Trainability: Ragamuffins are often perceptive felines who are able to learn new skills and obey instructions. It is a pleasure to interact with them because they are eager to please and appreciate interactive play. - Grooming: Ragamuffins require little maintenance in spite of their luxurious coat. Frequent brushing lowers shedding and prevents matting. Regular cleaning of their teeth is also advised to maintain their oral health. - History: The Ragdoll cat and the Ragamuffin breed are related, with the former having originated from the latter. Adding certain variations in coat patterns and colors, ragamuffins were created to build upon the traits of Ragdolls. Early in the new millennium, cat registries formally acknowledged the breed. - Health: While ragamuffins are often strong cats, like all breeds, they can have specific health problems, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a cardiac ailment. Maintaining their health requires regular veterinary examinations as well as a balanced diet. In conclusion, the ragamuffin cat breed is a charming and caring companion, distinguished by its lovely appearance and devoted nature. A ragamuffin may be a great addition to any home looking for a companion cat, whether it is for playtime or as a loving lap cat.

Book Between Colonialism and Diaspora

Download or read book Between Colonialism and Diaspora written by Tony Ballantyne and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2006-08-16 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing South Asian and British imperial history together with recent scholarship on transnationalism and postcolonialism, Tony Ballantyne offers a bold reevaluation of constructions of Sikh identity from the late eighteenth century through the early twenty-first. Ballantyne considers Sikh communities and experiences in Punjab, the rest of South Asia, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. He charts the shifting, complex, and frequently competing visions of Sikh identity that have been produced in response to the momentous social changes wrought by colonialism and diaspora. In the process, he argues that Sikh studies must expand its scope to take into account not only how Sikhism is figured in religious and political texts but also on the battlefields of Asia and Europe, in the streets of Singapore and Southall, and in the nightclubs of New Delhi and Newcastle. Constructing an expansive historical archive, Ballantyne draws on film, sculpture, fiction, and Web sites, as well as private papers, government records, journalism, and travel narratives. He proceeds from a critique of recent historiography on the development of Sikhism to an analysis of how Sikh identity changed over the course of the long nineteenth century. Ballantyne goes on to offer a reading of the contested interpretations of the life of Dalip Singh, the last Maharaja of Punjab. He concludes with an exploration of bhangra, a traditional form of Punjabi dance that diasporic artists have transformed into a globally popular music style. Much of bhangra’s recent evolution stems from encounters of the Sikh and Afro-Caribbean communities, particularly in the United Kingdom. Ballantyne contends that such cross-cultural encounters are central in defining Sikh identity both in Punjab and the diaspora.

Download or read book Homer s Odyssey written by Gwen Cooper and published by Delacorte Press. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ONCE IN NINE LIVES, SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENS. The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen’s veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who’d been abandoned. It was love at first sight. Everyone warned that Homer would always be an “underachiever.” But the kitten nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human who crossed his path. Homer scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease, survived being trapped alone for days after 9/11 in an apartment near the World Trade Center, and even saved Gwen’s life when he chased off an intruder who broke into their home in the middle of the night. But it was Homer’s unswerving loyalty, his infinite capacity for love, and his joy in the face of all obstacles that transformed Gwen’s life. And by the time she met the man she would marry, she realized that Homer had taught her the most valuable lesson of all: Love isn’t something you see with your eyes. BONUS: This edition contains a new afterword and an excerpt from Gwen Cooper's Love Saves the Day.

Download or read book The Concert Song Companion written by Charles Osborne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: W HAT I H A V E attempted in this book is a survey of song; the kind of song which one finds variously described as 'concert', 'art', or sometimes even 'classical song'. 'Concert song' seems the most useful, certainly the least inexact or misleading, of some descriptions, especially since 'art song' sounds primly off putting, and 'classical song' really ought to be used only to refer to songs written during the classical period, i. e. the 18th century. Concert song clearly means the kind of songs one hears sung at concerts or recitals. Addressing myself to the general music-lover who, though he possesses no special knowledge of the song literature, is never theless interested enough in songs and their singers to attend recitals of Lieder or of songs in various languages, I have naturally confined myself to that period of time in which the vast majority of these songs was composed, though not necessarily only to those composers whose songs have survived to be remembered in recital programmes today. I suppose this to be roughly the three centuries covered by the years 1650-1950, though most of the songs we, as audiences, know and love were composed in the middle of this period, in other words in the 19th century.
