Download or read book The Gordon Setter A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide To Buying Owning Health Grooming Training Obedience Understanding and written by Michael Stonewood and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gordon Setter is a large breed of dog that is a member of the setter family. The setter family is classified as either being made up of sporting dogs or gun dogs depending the preference of the national kennel club or council. It is believed that the Gordon Setter, and all setters, descends from the old Land Spaniel and that they came into existence during the late 1800s. The Gordon Setter was originally developed in Scotland for the purposes of hunting game birds. However the Gordon Setter was quickly imported into all sections of the United Kingdom, where the Gordon Setter was mainly used to hunt partridge, grouse, pheasant and woodcock. Due to the Gordon Setter's incredible hunting ability, it has been used to hunt 'sitting' birds all over the world - birds that 'sit' are defined as birds that will attempt to conceal themselves on land to avoid danger rather than taking flight. The modern Gordon Setter has a predominantly black coat with light tan markings on its chest, legs and muzzle. The breed is also commonly known as 'Black and Tans' due to its coat coloration. The Gordon Setter is also the largest breed within the setter family. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a Gordon Setter. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your Gordon Setter with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the Gordon Setter is an alert, confident, fearless, affectionate, intelligent and loyal breed. The breed thrives in a loving household environment as they love attention. Both puppy and adult Gordon Setters have the tendency to be boisterous and jumpy while playing, which means that the breed may not be suitable for household with very young children. It is important to note that as a working breed, the Gordon Setter has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the Gordon Setter has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. The Gordon Setter was bred to run and it is therefore recommended to allow your Gordon Setter to run and exercise for between 60 and 90 minutes a day. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Gordon Setter's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Gordon Setter, raising your Gordon Setter from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! "The Gordon Setter: A Complete and Comprehensive Owners Guide to: Buying, Owning, Health, Grooming, Training, Obedience, Understanding and Caring for Your Gordon Setter," by Michael Stonewood is the perfect purchase or gift for a first time Gordon Setter owner. This guide includes sections on caring for a puppy, breeding, health care, training, the basic cost of owning a Gordon Setter and much more. This book is the second edition - the first edition was published by 'Dog Care Professionals.'

Vintage Dog Books have republished it, using the original text and photographs as part of their CLASSIC BREED BOOKS series. The author was a much respected dog man of his time. Terhune says of him, "I know of no other expert who has Lloyds's peculiarly complete equipment of blended education and genius, along all canine lines. With him dogs are an inspired life-study." Although he penned several important dog books, this is probably his best. The book's one hundred and twenty seven pages contain detailed Chapters on: Setters of Yesterday and Today. The Setter in Art. Early Llewellin Setters in America. English Laverack Setters in America. A Glance at the Past. Scenting Powers. Various Paintings of Setters. Training Setters as Gun Dogs. This is a fascinating read for any Setter enthusiast or historian of the breed, and also contains much information that is still useful and practical today. "A dog quite unrivalled by any other of the canine species." Maxwell 1833. Many of the earliest dog breed books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Book Training Your Gordon Setter

Download or read book Training Your Gordon Setter written by Deandra Teplica and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-07 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally deployed in Scotland to retrieve hunted birds that had fallen to the ground, the Gordon Setter's strong hunter's instinct, skill with scents, and general companion qualities have made it a very popular breed indeed, as well as an enduring one. Having been officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1884, it is far ahead of many modern breeds that could be considered more popular. Today, a Gordon Setter is known as an excellent, loyal, and obedient breed that looks great with a properly-groomed coat but is also an ideal exercise partner and friend in the outdoors.
