Book excerpt: see all of my books at www.michaelreisman.net I have been writing since I was thirteen years old. My teachers in school through the years suggested that I pursue this talent. It is my sensitivity to nature and life's situations that drives me to tell it as it is. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York and moved to the Bronx. Now I live in Westchester, New York. With soft music or in plain old-fashioned silence, one can be inspired to write. It is my goal to make one think and feel and wonder through my writings. As long as my heart beats, my mind creates; the pen shall never run out of ink.

Book Rain Dodging

Download or read book Rain Dodging written by Susan J. Godwin and published by She Writes Press. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholar Susan Godwin is hooked when she comes across the captivating story of Mary of Modena—a seventeenth-century Italian princess who was only fourteen when coerced into marriage with the future king of England, James II, yet went on to cultivate a court full of women writers in an age when female authorship was rare. How did Mary achieve such a feat? Rain Dodging is Susan’s creative nonfiction account of the years-long search upon which this question—and her own unquenchable curiosity—launched her. Godwin travels through both space and time, solo adventuring through Britain in pursuit of truth and, in a spicy parallel arc, chronicling her own cluttered but resilient feminist path. From schizophrenic lovers to out-there musicians to one unhinged mother, Susan tells the story of her personal enlightenment even as she visits the palaces and manor houses in England and Scotland Mary once inhabited and pores over materials in Oxford’s stunning 400-year-old Bodleian Library, finding moments of transcendence and unexpected delight along the way. Join Susan in this irreverent and illuminating journey—a fascinating account of the late Stuart monarchy, the progression of feminist history, and the unexpected connection between the two.

Download or read book Feel the Magic written by William Soisson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two kinds of people who wont want to miss reading Feel the Magic!, a rollicking tale by Bill Soisson, a wise-cracking sixty-year-old man who sets out to conquer the Emerald Isle on a bicycle. As Bill takes to the road for a month-long assault, there is no doubt in his mind that he can indeed conquer the place. But many things can happen in a month, and after dozens of encounters with the irresistible Gaels who call themselves Irish, Soisson comes to realize that instead of conquering, he has been clearly bested. All along his vagabond way, the Irish have out-wisecracked, outsmarted, outlaughed, and outloved him. He has been enslaved by the affections of a host of delightful characters who regularly take smart-aleck strangers and bring them to heel with large doses of blarney, twice-told tales, and patented put-downs. Morever, he has been deeply moved by the history of that poetic people. Most remarkable, though, is that the author, put to a test by wit or kindness at every turn for a solid month, has loved every moment of it equally, the humbling as well as the exalting. And, by the time his story has been told, you sense that he will never again be quite the same brash man who landed in Dublin. He has been touched by many people, in ways ranging from riotously funny to deeply emotional. Each experience has been different, but each has been very human and very . . . well, Irish. In the end, when he leaves that enchanted land, he is overcome with the mysterious feeling that the butcher in Dublin was right on the mark when he said, Who do you think sent you here, and do you think it was just for a piece of meat? Filled with colorful historical background, peopled by warm characters and impish fairies, Feel the Magic! is a story that anyone who hasnt yet been to Ireland wont want to miss. But who are the others? Didnt I say there are two kinds of people who wont want to miss reading this book? Yes, I did. The others, of course, are those who have been to Ireland!

It also doesn't help that the secretary of the club, Jannelle Martin, doesn't like her and Angel doesn't know why. When Angel's told to stay away from the storeroom, she asks one of the bartenders to see if he can find any clues to help clear her. He leaves her a note to meet her in the storeroom and on her way to it, she has a confrontation with the manager who'd sent her on the errands. He accuses her of being in love with James Callahan, who he says is seeing Jannelle. Although this shakes her some, when she finds bartender John Mack in the storeroom with a knife in his chest and then Angel is attacked, she pulls it together and decides to starts investigating on her own to find John's killer. What ensues is Angel fighting to clear her name and save her life. Book The Sporting Road

Download or read book The Sporting Road written by Jim Fergus and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2000-10-17 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than just a "man and his dog" hunting adventure, The Sporting Road is a book about the land and man's place in it. It is also, in many ways, a book about relationships; with nature, animals, and the people with who live around us. As Rick Bass says in his introduction, Jim Fergus is a man for whom "The common denominator is not geographical, but internal; here is a man who belongs intensely to the living. And slowly, gradually -- essay by essay -- you become aware of the unsaid: the fact that he fits a diminishing time, a diminishing space, and a diminishing code of manners. That he always puts others before him; that he considers and respects his friends, his prey, his dogs, and the landscapes that engage these things."
