Download or read book Rainbows Amidst the Clouds written by Judy Strand Barcelo and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rainbows Amidst the Clouds is a devotional journey through the Bible, contemplating selected passages in every book from Genesis to Revelation. One of the best ways to maintain a close personal relationship with the Lord is to practice a consistent daily devotional program, and this book is one tool to help achieve that goal in the year ahead. As a baby boomer herself, Dr. Barcelo has written this devotional with a view toward relating to the spiritual interests of those who are living out their golden years. Barcelo’s rich and varied background as an educator, administrator, missionary, and college professor has given her many experiences from which to draw as she grapples with how to remain spiritually healthy and continue to be relevant in the cause of God as a retired person. Readers, however, will find that this book is applicable to students of the Bible in all stages of life, since it covers a wide range of topics, depending upon the selected text for each day. Such diverse themes as parenting, divorce, missionary work, leaving and returning to the church, equality, stewardship, aging, and retirement are all touched upon in this post-pandemic devotional. With each passing day, search with Dr. Barcelo amid the clouds life sometimes brings, for the blessings of God’s guidance, and His rainbows of promise and hope, found only as we take time to thoughtfully walk through His Word.

Book excerpt: Life story of a Hungarian Jew born before WWI, who's life gets destroyed by the Holocaust. The rebuilt family business gets destroyed by the Communists in 1948, causing him to restart life the second time. Life then gets disrupted by the Hungarian uprising, causing a move to Israel to start over again for the third time, establishing a modest life, destrupted by the early death of his beloved wife. He lived to age 96 with all his faculties intact and a memory as brilliant as ever.A REVIEW:- Wonderfully written, unique and lucid style, with an enthusiastic, child-like personality.- It's an old-fashioned love story.- His first employment sounds amusingly Dickensian.- A picture of life in those dramatic periods, from an everyman's point of view.- An added perspective as to why the Jews of Europe fell victim to the Holocaust.- It shows what one needs to survive and flourish in such trying times: intelligence, resourcefulness, a supportive family, a lot of luck, and a passion for life.

How do you even begin to put the pieces back together again or is it even possible? The phone call was unexpected and unpredictable and left me completely broken. The out- of-the-blue, off-the-charts test results became a game changer. Leukemia was not part of my plan. As I questioned whether it was a mistake, I remembered that God either allows, arranges, or appoints everything in our life. What are those fiery tests of faith that have come your way? Have they become defining moments and challenges that test all that you believe? No matter how prepared we think we are, there are some things that are beyond our control but not beyond His control. Come with me on this journey of faith and find the treasures hidden within the trials and His way back from being gracefully broken to being made gracefully whole again.

Book Rainbow in the Cloud

Download or read book Rainbow in the Cloud written by Maya Angelou and published by Random House. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Words mean more than what is set down on paper,” Maya Angelou wrote in her groundbreaking memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Indeed, Angelou’s words have traveled the world and transformed lives—inspiring, strengthening, healing. Through a long and prolific career in letters, she became one of the most celebrated voices of our time. Now, in this collection of sage advice, humorous quips, and pointed observations culled from the author’s great works, including The Heart of a Woman, On the Pulse of Morning, Gather Together in My Name, and Letter to My Daughter, Maya Angelou’s spirit endures. Rainbow in the Cloud offers resonant and rewarding quotes on such topics as creativity and culture, family and community, equality and race, values and spirituality, parenting and relationships. Perhaps most special, Maya Angelou’s only son, Guy Johnson, has contributed some of his mother’s most powerful sayings, shared directly with him and the members of their family. A treasured keepsake as well as a beautiful tribute to a woman who touched so many, Rainbow in the Cloud reminds us that “If one has courage, nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”

The result of these thought-provoking essays is an interdisciplinary text that explores the First Lady from a rhetorical and cultural point of view. Authors analyze her Democratic National Convention speeches, her brand as First Lady, her communication from her latest trip to Africa, her agenda rhetoric in Let’s Move! and Reach Higher, and her coming out as a Black feminist intellectual when she spoke at Maya Angelou’s memorial service. Readers will recognize Michelle Obama as a rhetor of our times—a woman who influences America at the intersections of gender, race, and class and who is representative of what women are today.

Book Olaus Magnus A Description of the Northern Peoples 1555

Download or read book Olaus Magnus A Description of the Northern Peoples 1555 written by P.G. Foote and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Swedish scholar and prelate, Olaus Magnus (1490-1557), last Catholic archbishop of Uppsala, lived the latter half of his life in exile. His devotion to his country and his people never faltered, nor his determination to give them a glorious place on the European cultural map by his writings. On his justly famous Carta Marina, published in Venice in 1539, he promised a fuller account of the North and its marvels. This he accomplished in January 1555 when he issued from his own press in Rome his magnificent Historia de gentibus septenrionalibus. This quarto volume of 815 pages, divided into 22 books and a total of 778 chapters, was lavishly illustrated with some 480 woodcuts, most of them closely relevant to the technical matters discussed by the author. The book was an immediate success, and half a dozen editions appeared in the century after Olaus's death. It became even better known in an epitome published in Antwerp in 1558, which was also frequently reprinted and translated. This appeared in English in 1658, but it is only with the present version, complete with illustrations, that the whole work is made available to the English-reading world. It is indeed only the second full translation to appear in modern times, preceded a Swedish version published in four parts between 1909 and 1925. There is little history in the sense of chronological narrative in Olaus Magnus's Historia. It is rightly regarded as an ethnographic essay on an encyclopaedic scale, touching on a vast variety of topics, snowflakes and sea-serpents, elks and artillery, sables and saltpetre, watermills and werewolves. Much of it was culled from ancient authorities- it was a matter of patriotic pride to identify the Swedes as the only legitimate descendants of the Goths- but much of it was derived from the author's personal observations, especially those made on his early travels in North Sweden. His pioneering and sympathetic account of the Lapps and their way of life has attracted p
