Book excerpt: Joshua Logan, shunned because of his stuttering, leaves his sweetheart Sarah Spivey and his family to seek revenge for his brother who is killed at Bull Run. He joins his schoolmates in the Pennsylvania 222nd Volunteer Infantry. In their baptism of fire at Antietam, he saves his squad from capture by the Confederates, where they fight hand to hand in the cornfield. Promoted to sergeant, he leads his men through skirmishes and battles. Sarah comes to Fredericksburg to nurse her brother who was badly wounded when the regiment is defeated in a breathtaking battle at the stone wall on Marye's Heights. Tension builds and she rejects Josh. Logan is devastated but devotes his time to training new recruits. When the Union Army is defeated at Chancellorsville Private Logan, who was court marshaled by a scheming officer and one of his men, makes a heroic stand with the rear guard. Severely wounded, he is faced with the decision to save himself or help the soldier who took his stripes. If he survives he wonders if Sarah will come to nurse him as she did her brother. This is the first in a series of novels about the 222nd Pennsylvania Regiment and the men who fight for the Union.

Book excerpt: The capstone of Ken Wells’s acclaimed Catahoula Bayou trilogy, Logan’s Storm tracks the epic journey of Logan LaBauve as he flees corrupt cops while trying to lead Chilly Cox—the teenager whose “crime” was rescuing Logan’s son, Meely, from a racist bully—to safety. But dodging two-footed predators deep in the Cajun backwaters turns out to be the easy part. As Logan, accompanied by a newfound love interest, heads to Florida to lie low, a killer hurricane springs from the Gulf—and lives are suddenly on the line. Wells writes with Twain’s flair for adventure and Welty’s sense of place, making Logan’s Storm a trip through the heart and soul of a singular American character.

Book Logan s Way Detective Series Novels 1 3

Download or read book Logan s Way Detective Series Novels 1 3 written by T. E. Killian and published by Christ Centered Ministries. This book was released on 2016-12-31 with total page 939 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out of My Way Logan McKenzie is a police detective sergeant who does things his way with his own “rule book.” Logan’s partner retired 6 months ago, and he is determined to work alone. He has no use for stuffed-shirts or Feds. He avoids all female cops, if he possibly can, until a certain female DEA agent comes to work with him. Logan is trying to shut down a large drug operation in his hometown of Lakeland, Arizona. He wants to do it all by himself and his way but is forced to accept the help of DEA Special Agent Samantha Farley. Sam has been a federal agent for 20 years and is able to persuade Logan to work with her. Sam not only helps him but she also saves his life … more than once. Logan begins to grudgingly appreciate Sam and her help. However, a drug lord has put out a contract on Logan. It not only affects him but Sam and Logan’s daughter. Can Logan and Sam work together (without hurting each other) and shut down the drug operation and keep him alive in the process? This new series, by the author of The Sycamore PD Series, is loaded with action and suspense. On the Way Logan is back and so is Sam but now he’s the captain and she’s retired from the DEA and is one of his sergeants. Lakeland PD will never be the same with the two of them working as partners in the detective bureau. Will Logan continue to try to do things “Logan’s Way” even when Sam disagrees with him? On the first day in their new positions, they hit the floor running. A congressional candidate is murdered at his kick-off rally. Political pressure to solve the case quickly starts on them immediately. Did one of the four high-profile political suspects do it or is there another suspect? Complications occur when a waiter is found shot. Was this death associated with the first murder? Will Logan and Sam be able to work together as partners to solve both murders? This book will keep you in suspense as to who the “real” murderer is and why the candidate was killed. All the Way Logan and Sam are back for a third time and this time is going to be very different and dangerous for both of them. Someone is kidnapping and murdering women in Lakeland – appears to be a serial killer. The women are all tall and have long black hair, just like Sam. They find out a man Sam put in prison fifteen years ago is out of prison and he had vowed to kill her when he got out. Sam, Logan, FBI agents and the local police agencies work together to get this killer but each time they think they’ll get him, he disappears. Both Sam and Logan have to take their families to a safe house – even there the killer finds them. As Sam and Logan work closely together, they have to address the growing feelings that are developing between them. But with Logan’s loss of his wife seven years ago and Sam’s divorce eleven years ago, can they overcome their losses to build a new relationship? Will they be able to work together? How many women will be killed before the killer is found? Will he get Sam or her daughters before he is caught? Will Logan’s way be enough to solve this case and build a relationship? Will Logan finally go all the way?

Book excerpt: Learning Legacies explores the history of cross-cultural teaching approaches, to highlight how women writer-educators used stories about their collaborations to promote community-building. Robbins demonstrates how educators used stories that resisted dominant conventions and expectations about learners to navigate cultural differences. Using case studies of educational initiatives on behalf of African American women, Native American children, and the urban poor, Learning Legacies promotes the importance of knowledge grounded in the histories and cultures of the many racial and ethnic groups that have always comprised America’s populace, underscoring the value of rich cultural knowledge in pedagogy by illustrating how creative teachers still draw on these learning legacies today.
