Book Mobile laser scanning based determination of railway network topology and branching direction on turnouts

Download or read book Mobile laser scanning based determination of railway network topology and branching direction on turnouts written by Stein, Denis and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GNSS is often inaccurate and satellite signals are not always available, which results in ambiguous situations. In order to reduce their negative effects on train-borne localization, this work proposes an approach for the detection of tracks, turnouts, and branching directions solely from 2d lidar sensor measurements. The experimental evaluation shows highly correct and complete results. In summary, these detections are sufficient to reduce ambiguity problems in train-borne localization.

Book Intelligent Quality Assessment of Railway Switches and Crossings

Download or read book Intelligent Quality Assessment of Railway Switches and Crossings written by Roberto Galeazzi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the latest scientific and technological advancements in the field of railway turnout engineering. It offers a holistic approach to the scientific investigation of the factors and mechanisms determining performance degradation of railway switches and crossings (S&Cs), and the consequent development of condition monitoring systems that will enable infrastructure managers to transition towards the implementation of predictive maintenance. The book is divided into three distinct parts. Part I discusses the modelling of railway infrastructure, including switch and crossing systems, while Part II focuses on metallurgical characterization. This includes the microstructure of in-field loaded railway steel and an analysis of rail screw failures. In turn, the third and final part discusses condition monitoring and asset management. Given its scope, the book is of interest to both academics and industrial practitioners, helping them learn about the various challenges characterizing this engineering domain and the latest solutions to properly address them.

Book Wheel Rail Interface Handbook

Download or read book Wheel Rail Interface Handbook written by R. Lewis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-09-25 with total page 865 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the engineering problems of particular importance to railways arise at interfaces and the safety-critical role of the wheel/rail interface is widely acknowledged. Better understanding of wheel/rail interfaces is therefore critical to improving the capacity, reliability and safety of the railway system.Wheel-rail interface handbook is a one-stop reference for railway engineering practitioners and academic researchers. Part one provides the fundamentals of contact mechanics, wear, fatigue and lubrication as well as state-of-the-art research and emerging technologies related to the wheel/rail interface and its management. Part two offers an overview of industrial practice from several different regions of the world, thereby providing an invaluable international perspective with practitioners' experience of managing the wheel/rail interface in a variety of environments and circumstances. This comprehensive volume will enable practising railway engineers, in whatever discipline of railway engineering – infrastructure, vehicle design and safety, and so on – to enhance their understanding of wheel/rail issues, which have a major influence on the running of a reliable, efficient and safe railway. - One-stop reference on the important topic of wheel rail-interfaces - Presents the fundamentals of contact mechanics, wear, fatigue and lubrication - Examines state-of-the-art research and emerging technologies related to wheel-rail interface and its management
