Book Nordic Radioecology

Download or read book Nordic Radioecology written by H. Dahlgaard and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1994-10-11 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present treatise is the final milestone in the radioecology programme, RAD, carried out from 1990 to 1993 under the Nordic Committee for Nuclear Safety Research, NKS. The book, one of the few in its field to have achieved international publication, is centred on the contamination of Nordic environments with radionuclides from the Chernobyl accident. It contains 30 contributions mainly describing the flow of radiocaesium through aquatic, agricultural, forest, and alpine ecosystems, as well as quality assurance and doses to man. A series of original papers on various aspects of Nordic post-Chernobyl radioecology by leading Nordic scientists is also included, along with terms & units definitions, indexes, and an executive summary. The volume will be invaluable to all scientists and professionals in radioecology, radiation protection, trace element cycling and environmental contamination. It will also be relevant to general evironmental management/human contamination/civil defence officials.

Book Radioecological Concentration Processes

Download or read book Radioecological Concentration Processes written by Bertil Åberg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radioecological Concentration Processes present the overall model for problems of environmental contamination in terms of system analysis. This book discusses the major investigational approaches to study of environmental contamination with radioactivity. Organized into 90 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the results of the experimental investigations into the distribution of strontium in soils and the uptake of this nuclide by plants. This text then presents the comparison of the distribution character in different soil types, which shows clearly that ploughed soils differ from virgin soils by a more uniform and similar character of radioisotope distribution in them. Other chapters consider the migration of 90Sr in the mostly podzolic and water-logged soils of moderately northern latitudes of Russia. The final chapter deals with the experiments with the shore crab Carcinus maenas, which shows that the crab is able to regulate the zinc content of its body against changes in the zinc content of food or of surrounding water. Biochemists will find this book useful.

Book Atoms Nature and Man Man made Radioactivity in the Environment

Download or read book Atoms Nature and Man Man made Radioactivity in the Environment written by Neal O. Hines and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-10-27 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Atoms, Nature, and Man: Man-made Radioactivity in the Environment', Neal O. Hines delves into the intricate relationship between human activities and the environment, particularly focusing on the impact of man-made radioactivity. Through a meticulous exploration of scientific research and data, Hines elucidates the ways in which radiation from nuclear testing, accidents, and waste disposal permeates the natural world, affecting both ecosystems and human health. Written in a clear and accessible style, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the subject, making it a valuable resource for both scholars and general readers interested in environmental science. Hines' balanced approach to the topic underscores the urgency of addressing the consequences of human intervention in the environment, highlighting the need for sustainable practices and responsible decision-making. As an expert in the field, Neal O. Hines brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to 'Atoms, Nature, and Man', making it essential reading for anyone concerned with the future of our planet.
