Book excerpt: We correlate the positions of 13,240 Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) with 0.1 (less-than or equal to) z (less-than or equal to) 0.3 from the maxBCG catalog with radio sources from the FIRST survey to study the sizes and distributions of radio AGN in galaxy clusters. We find that 19.7% of our BCGs are radio-loud, and this fraction depends on the stellar mass of the BCG, and to a lesser extent on the richness of the parent cluster (in the sense of increasing radio loudness with increasing mass). The intrinsic size of the radio emission associated with the BCGs peaks at 55 kpc, with a tail extending to 200 kpc. The radio power of the extended sources places them on the divide between FR I and FR II type sources, while sources compact in the radio tend to be somewhat less radio-luminous. We also detect an excess of radio sources associated with the cluster, instead of with the BCG itself, extending out to (almost equal to) 1.4 kpc.

AGN typically are observed while the central black hole is actively accreting. While these are essential measurements, they do not allow us to examine a host galaxy after the active phase has completed and the cumulative effect of the all of the processes are available for study. The sample for this study are drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) IV's Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA; Bundy et al. 2015) survey, which is gathering spatially resolved spectra of approximately 10,000 nearby galaxies. The combination of radio existing data from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky (FIRST; Becker et al. 1995), NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS; Condon et al. 1998), TIFR GMRT Sky Survey (TGSS; Intema et al. 2017), and follow-up wide-band with the uGMRT radio telescope provides a powerful tool to estimate the ages of radio AGN from the measured synchrotron spectrum via the analytic spectral age dating method and distinguish recently active sources from those whose AGN phase ended 10's to 100's of Myr ago. We further test the constraints of the spectral age dating method with magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of radio galaxies to better understand the systematic uncertainties that may affect the age measurements of our observational results. Further, we present another project where we measure the redshift evolution of the Ha luminosity function of galaxies in the 3D-HST survey (Brammer et al. 2012) at redshifts 0.7
