Book Radiation Pyrometer for Gas Turbine Blades

Download or read book Radiation Pyrometer for Gas Turbine Blades written by David A. Rohy and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the results of a program that has advanced the concepts and practical feasibility of radiation pyrometry for measuring the first stage blade temperature in gas turbine engines. Thermal radiation is accepted from the blades by sensor heads employing one of two different optical systems. The two sensor heads were designed to collect thermal radiation from either a spot or a reasonably large area of the turbine blade. High temperature fiber optics have been used to transmit the radiation to a remote detector housing, where the photons are converted into an electrical signal by a silicon photovoltaic cell. The current produced by the cell is routed to a signal processor which amplifies the signal, extracts one of three desired signal characteristics and then produces an output signal directly proportional to the temperature. This system measures and displays on a real time basis the average temperature of blades on a wheel, the average of the highest temperatures on a wheel, or the temperature of the hottest blade on the wheel. Both analog and digital signal information is available. System response is better than 10 msec in most cases. End to end system accuracy when calibrated with an electrically heated strip target was better than plus or minus 10F across the range of 1400 and 2200F. (Author).

Book Radiation Pyrometer for Gas Turbine Buckets

Download or read book Radiation Pyrometer for Gas Turbine Buckets written by Thomas E. Duffy and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes the results of a program that has demonstrated the practical feasibility of radiation pyrometry for gas turbines. Several sensor heads capable of interfacing with the severe environments of advanced turbojets were tested at sensor head temperatures of 1000F. Two basically different configurations of high environmental temperature sensor heads were used to identify target areas on blades and collect radiation from each blade as it passes across the optical axis. A remotely located silicon photovoltaic cell detected and converted the photons from each blade into electrical signals. High temperature fiber optics transmitted the radiation from the location of the sensor head on the turbine case to the relatively cool location of the detector. An electronic readout and control system measured and displayed in deg F the average temperature of all blades on a wheel, the average of the highest temperature of all blades on a wheel and the temperature of the hottest blade on a wheel. The digital display had a range of 1200 to 2200F and a response of five readings per second. An analog signal directly proportional to temperature was also available to demonstrate the applicability of the system for conventional engine fuel control systems. End-to-end system accuracy when calibrated with an electrically heated strip target was better than plus or minus 10 deg F across the range of 1200 to 2200F metal temperatures. Hundreds of hours of soot and thermal cycling tests performed on sensor heads to help establish the system's reliability. Proof pressure, vibration, temperature compensation, response, turbine simulator and full scale engine test results are also reported. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instrumentation is not a clearly defined subject, having a 'fuzzy' boundary with a number of other disciplines. Often categorized as either 'techniques' or 'applications' this book addresses the various applications that may be needed with reference to the practical techniques that are available for the instrumentation or measurement of a specific physical quantity or quality. This makes it of direct interest to anyone working in the process, control and instrumentation fields where these measurements are essential. * Comprehensive and authoritative collection of technical information* Written by a collection of specialist contributors* Updated to include chapters on the fieldbus standards, reliability, EMC, 'virtual instrumentation', fibre optics, smart and intelligent transmitters, analyzers, level and flow meters, and many more
