Book UNDERSTANDING PRACTICE OF PARAMA JNANA THE ABSOLUTE KNOWLEDGE A SYNOPSIS

Download or read book UNDERSTANDING PRACTICE OF PARAMA JNANA THE ABSOLUTE KNOWLEDGE A SYNOPSIS written by C?rucandra D?sa (Chandrakant P. Giri, Ph.D.) and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some 25 years ago, I had been struggling to receive spiritual initiation from a would-be diksha-guru for over three years, but he kept repeating that I was not ready yet. Just about that time (April 1994), I suffered what turned out to be a near-fatal heart attack during a lunch break at my FDA office. They rushed me into the emergency where I underwent triple heart bypass surgery. Three major arteries in my heart had ~98-100% blockages. One of these is the one commonly referred to by cardiologists as a “widow-maker!” Suffices to say that I could have suffered a massive heart attack, but for some divine intervention, I probably received another life. That incident alarmed me to seek spiritual initiation from my spiritual master, but I did not have much hope for that possibility. Based on my meagre scriptural knowledge at the time (Ante Narayana Smiti), I took refuge in whatever intelligence the Lord had endowed me. How do I attract Guru Maharaja’s attention to my cause? My intense greediness/eagerness [referred to as laulyam in sanskrit] initiated prompted me to study his mood using my intelligence. Through Krsna, we get introduced to our prospective guru, and thru Guru only, we attain Krsna. Thereby I figured out how he served his guru. His pranama-mantra happens to be “prabhup?dasya s?hitya? yat prak???ya vitirya?ca” Prabhupada ordered him to renounce this lucrative job of being a general manager of the Pepsi cola company, get married to a devotee woman even though he did not want to marry, return to India, and translate his books into several regional languages, and then distribute in India and abroad. All these he did in the prime of his youth when he was in Canada. That is when the idea flashed in my mind to write this essay on Absolute Knowledge despite my limited knowledge of Bhagavad-Gita at the time. I gathered enough courage to submit that essay with a degree of apprehension at his lotus feet. My would-be spiritual master was so pleased with it that not only did he invest the time out of his preaching schedule to read this synopsis written by an absolute novice like me, but he also initiated me within a month in our Potomac Temple in the suburb of Maryland, USA, on Lord Nrsimhadeva’s Appearance Day (May 25, 1997). Moreover, he gave me an order at my initiation, which was even more significant. I paraphrase it here: “Carucandra, I want you to learn the Gaudiya scriptures and then teach others.” This year, I would celebrate a silver jubilee to that fateful occasion in my spiritual life. And to this day, the divine couple has mercifully allowed me to keep my word to my Guru. Carrying out his order remains the very mission of my life balance.

Book excerpt: Consciousness: The Ultimate Reality explores all aspects of consciousness. It is a well-written, well-researched work that I find unique in that it delves deep into the subject while still being easy to understand. That combination is difficult to accomplish and Dr. Puri has done an excellent job. I highly recommend this book; its well worth the readers time (Elizabeth Davis, Newspaper columnist and freelance editor, Boonville, MO). A very insightful perspective on consciousness. A marvelous explanation portraying the subtleties of consciousness that is comprehensive and very easy to understand. A reading for a soul-searching, hungry world (Cynthia Neff, Columbia, MO). Consciousness is a very complex subject and has always baffled me. The book is an eye opener for me. I am blown away by the expression of the author. Very simple, comprehensive, well written, amazing insight. A read that will stay with you a life time. A mind stretched can never go back to its original form. Captivating (Lisa McKinzie, President/CEO of McKinzie & Company, Osage Beach, MO). This thought-provoking, beautifully written book has deep, rich insights on higher truth and its relationship with consciousness. It serves as an inspiration for those ready to begin their quest on the path of self-knowledge. A fascinating and clearly annotated study. Not only is Dr. Puri a deep thinker but also a deep knower (Linda Castillon, Director of the Transcendental Meditation Program, Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa).

Book A Manual for Creating Atheists

Download or read book A Manual for Creating Atheists written by Peter Boghossian and published by Pitchstone Publishing (US&CA). This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years, the faithful have honed proselytizing strategies and talked people into believing the truth of one holy book or another. Indeed, the faithful often view converting others as an obligation of their faith—and are trained from an early age to spread their unique brand of religion. The result is a world broken in large part by unquestioned faith. As an urgently needed counter to this tried-and-true tradition of religious evangelism, A Manual for Creating Atheists offers the first-ever guide not for talking people into faith—but for talking them out of it. Peter Boghossian draws on the tools he has developed and used for more than 20 years as a philosopher and educator to teach how to engage the faithful in conversations that will help them value reason and rationality, cast doubt on their religious beliefs, mistrust their faith, abandon superstition and irrationality, and ultimately embrace reason.

Book The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way

Download or read book The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way written by Nagarjuna and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1995-11-09 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Buddhist saint N=ag=arjuna, who lived in South India in approximately the second century CE, is undoubtedly the most important, influential, and widely studied Mah=ay=ana Buddhist philosopher. His many works include texts addressed to lay audiences, letters of advice to kings, and a set of penetrating metaphysical and epistemological treatises. His greatest philosophical work, the Mūlamadhyamikak=arik=a--read and studied by philosophers in all major Buddhist schools of Tibet, China, Japan, and Korea--is one of the most influential works in the history of Indian philosophy. Now, in The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, Jay L. Garfield provides a clear and eminently readable translation of N=ag=arjuna's seminal work, offering those with little or no prior knowledge of Buddhist philosophy a view into the profound logic of the Mūlamadhyamikak=arik=a. Garfield presents a superb translation of the Tibetan text of Mūlamadhyamikak=arik=a in its entirety, and a commentary reflecting the Tibetan tradition through which N=ag=arjuna's philosophical influence has largely been transmitted. Illuminating the systematic character of N=ag=arjuna's reasoning, Garfield shows how N=ag=arjuna develops his doctrine that all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, that is, than nothing exists substantially or independently. Despite lacking any essence, he argues, phenomena nonetheless exist conventionally, and that indeed conventional existence and ultimate emptiness are in fact the same thing. This represents the radical understanding of the Buddhist doctrine of the two truths, or two levels of reality. He offers a verse-by-verse commentary that explains N=ag=arjuna's positions and arguments in the language of Western metaphysics and epistemology, and connects N=ag=arjuna's concerns to those of Western philosophers such as Sextus, Hume, and Wittgenstein. An accessible translation of the foundational text for all Mah=ay=ana Buddhism, The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way offers insight to all those interested in the nature of reality.

This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality of our consciousness can go up or down based on how we see the world and act in it. When we act like the eternal spiritual beings that we are – small parts of a supreme whole – makes us happy. But if we focus our attempts at happiness on the temporary body and mind – on matter – and make those our life's priority, our consciousness will shrink and we’ll be miserable. Spiritual elevation – raising our consciousness to higher levels – happens quickly when we revive our God consciousness. In this compact book, Srila Prabhupada recommends seeing the world as it is – a temporary place full of anxiety – and then taking the road to higher consciousness by rediscovering our relationship with the Supreme Person, Krishna. Anyone can become elevated; the journey begins with a single step up.

Book Complement in Nervous System Disease

Download or read book Complement in Nervous System Disease written by Iliana Michailidou and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuroinflammation is associated with a wide spectrum of acute and chronic diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. It causes secondary damage, which is a major determinant for progression and outcome. Activated complement is suspected to be a key player to neuroinflammation. Complement is an important evolutionary ancient system for host anti-microbial aid. It serves the innate immunity and interfaces with the adaptive immunity. Complement recognizes non-cognate or altered-self antigens and devours 'unwanted' cells or cell compartments. Activation of complement leads to opsonisation of a target, inflammation by the release of anaphylatoxins, and damage of the target by the assembled membrane attack complex. Because complement can harm self-tissue, activation is tightly controlled by regulators. However, complement activation might be excessive and uncontrolled at sites of damage contributing to neuroinflammation leading to neurodegeneration.
