Book Did Jesus Rise From the Dead

Download or read book Did Jesus Rise From the Dead written by Gary R. Habermas and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-12-04 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[This] is the most important question regarding the claims of the Christian faith. Certainly no question in modern religious history demands more attention or interest, as witnessed by the vast body of literature dealing with the Resurrection. James I. Packer says it well in his response to this debate: "'When Christians are asked to make good their claim that this scheme is truth, they point to Jesus' resurrection. The Easter event, so they affirm, demonstrated Jesus' deity; validated his teaching; attested to the completion of his work of atonement for sin; confirms his present cosmic dominion and coming reappearance as Judge; assures us that his personal pardon, presence, and power in people's lives today is fact; and guarantees each believer's own reembodiment by Resurrection in the world to come.' "The Apostle Paul considered the Resurrection to be the cornerstone of the Christian faith. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, the whole structure, Christianity, collapses. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:14-17, 'And if Christ has not been raised, 'our preaching is useless and so is you faith.' More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God. . . . And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile [emphasis added].' The Christian faith-and its claim to be Truth-exists only if Jesus rose from the dead. The heart of Christianity is a living Christ."

Book Did Jesus Rise from the Dead

Download or read book Did Jesus Rise from the Dead written by Matthew Levering and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Resurrection of Jesus is at the very root of Christian faith; without belief in Jesus Christianity dies. In this thought-provoking work, Matthew Levering defends the credibility of the claim that Jesus rose from the dead. Drawing on the work of N. T. Wright, Levering shows that the historical evidence vindicates this assumption, and reveals that the Gospels were backed by eyewitnesses who were living and telling their stories even during the time of the writing of the Gospels. The author also emphasises the importance of evaluating the Old Testament to validate Jesus' Resurrection. By highlighting the desire--both in the ancient world and now--to make the Resurrection more comprehensible by spiritualizing it, Levering argues that the fact that the disciples themselves did not do this provides a further clue to reliability. Finally, the author addresses the question of why Jesus does not continue to show himself in his glorified flesh after his resurrection, which is often seen as a strong case for scepticism. However, he shows that Jesus' entire mission is predicated upon helping us to avoid cleaving to the present world over God. He is leading us to where he is--the kingdom of God, the beginning of the new creation at the Father's right hand. By developing these arguments for the historical reality of Jesus' Resurrection, this ground-breaking study expertly draws together historical and theological reasons for believing that Jesus' Resurrection happened.

Book excerpt: Michael Licona opens this study with an extensive consideration of historiography and the particular problem of investigating claims of miracles. Then he carefully applies his principles and methods to the question of Jesus' resurrection. In addition to determining and working from the most reliable sources and bedrock historical evidence, Licona critically weighs other prominent hypotheses. His own argument is a challenging and closely argued case for the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. --from publisher description.

Book Trial of the Witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus

Download or read book Trial of the Witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus written by Thomas Sherlock and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2020-03-16 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Trial of the Witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus" by Thomas Sherlock was written as a courtroom-like case about the resurrection of Jesus. Written in response to Woolston's claims of the matter, this book took a more agnostic approach that presented facts and evidence that, perhaps, the biblical story isn't quite as realistic as many prominent deists to this day might lead one to believe.

Book The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Resurrection of Jesus Christ written by Paul De Marco and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas famously refused to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead until he could put his finger into the holes that had been made by the nails on the cross. Today, many people still demand proof before they'll accept that Jesus is divine, and so this book sets out to provide that evidence. It analyses events on the day of the crucifixion such as a period of three hours of darkness in the middle of the day which couldn't have been caused by an eclipse. The ancient historians Phlegon and Tertullian both wrote about this, as did the gospel writers, with Phlegon writing that stars could be seen in the sky. There was also an earthquake on the day of the crucifixion which was also described by Phlegon. The book shows that it was impossible for this darkness to have been caused by an eclipse in terms of astronomy, and that the probability of there being an eclipse and an earthquake on the same day would be 1 in 4.7 billion. The book analyses the crucifixion in detail and all the hypotheses that try to denounce the resurrection of Jesus. It's a fascinating read which takes in the historical setting at the time Jesus lived and the miracles that he worked, which were also described by Tertullian and Justin Martyr. The messianic prophecies about Jesus are covered, as is the Roman persecution of the early Church, the incredible story of the evolution of the Bible as we know it today and the source texts that were used, as well as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Faith doesn't have to be blind, and this book shows just how strongly our faith is underpinned by science.

Book A Study of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Download or read book A Study of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ written by Andrew de Ville and published by John Ritchie Limited. This book was released on 2018-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is one of the most critical events in history, along with His BIBLE STUDY incarnation and death; the implications of which are far reaching for humanity. This book focuses on the biblical presentation of the resurrection. The content has been divided into six parts, asfollows. In The resurrection defined, we explore what is involved in the concept of resurrection. In particular, that the resurrection necessarily involved the Lord's physical body is stressed. The resurrection foretold focuses on the occasions when the Lord spoke in advance of His death and resurrection, and how his disciples reacted to these revelations. The resurrection fulfilled, contains the heart of the book, dealing in detail with the post resurrection appearances of the Lord Jesus Christ. The importance of these appearances is considered along with the practical lessons for Christians today. The resurrection preached deals with the focus on the resurrection in the preaching in Acts of both Peter and Paul. The preaching of these two apostles is studied as a worthy pattern for the modern-day gospel preacher, particularly the focus given to the resurrection. The resurrection taught contains an exploration of some doctrinal implications of the resurrection of Christ in the epistles on the New Testament; this will be found to be both practical and far reaching. The resurrection typified explores some Old Testament types of the resurrection of Christ.

Book Jesus Came Out of the Tomb So Can You

Download or read book Jesus Came Out of the Tomb So Can You written by Harold R. Eberle and published by . This book was released on 2005-10-01 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians desire to surrender their lives to God, so they bow to the cross as a symbol of ultimate surrrender. For many of us, though, the emphasis on the death of our Lord has become a fixation and even an alternate identity. In our sincere attempts to please God and rid ourselves of sin, we continually focus on the single event which traditional theology tells us paid for our sins. Yet, we rarely experience the fullness of God's promises. If God raised Jesus from the tomb in power and glory, why aren't we living in that resurrection? If God raised Jesus into heaven and us with him, why aren't we experiencing His victory? We can!

Book Doubting Jesus Resurrection

Download or read book Doubting Jesus Resurrection written by Kris D. Komarnitsky and published by Kris Komarnitsky. This book was released on 2009 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a layman's inquiry into a specific and intriguing question of Christian Origins. It starts out at a place where believer, non-believer, and those who are not quite sure about Jesus' resurrection can meet—at the Bible's account of a discovered empty tomb three days after Jesus' death. Looking at only the literary evidence, and considering scholarship from both sides of the aisle, this book explains in clear and easily understood terms what many scholars have been saying for years—there is good reason to conclude that this tradition is a legend. If true, the historicity of Jesus' resurrection collapses. Following up on this possibility, this book moves on to its main topic, turning its attention to one of the most valuable and crucial pieces of Christian Origins evidence - a short passage from one of the Apostle Paul's letters that contains the earliest known Christian beliefs and traditions in their simplest form: Jesus died for our sins, was raised on the third day, and appeared to many people (1 Corinthians 15:3-7). Again drawing on a wide range of scholarly expertise and covering many topics often encountered in discussions about Jesus' resurrection, this book investigates and offers a compelling answer to the question: What plausibly could have caused the rise of these extraordinary beliefs and traditions if there never was a discovered empty tomb? The following are excerpts from various endorsements of this book: "Clearly written and well argued, Doubting Jesus' Resurrection lays out a plausible and intriguing case for a non-supernatural explanation of the New Testament resurrection accounts" (Robert J. Miller, Professor of Religious Studies, Juniata College). "Komarnitsky's answers are well-documented and carefully considered, and his central thesis is intriguing. Highly recommended" (Rev. Chuck Jones, Atlanta, Georgia). "Komarnitsky shows great acuity of judgment and clear-eyed perception of the issues. He does not claim to have proof of what happened at Christian origins, but he does present a powerfully plausible hypothesis for what might have happened" (Robert M. Price, Ph.D. Theology, Ph.D. New Testament). "Komarnitsky presents a surprisingly excellent demonstration of how belief in the resurrection of Jesus could plausibly have originated by natural means" (Richard Carrier, Ph.D. Ancient History). Those interested in a plausible natural explanation for the birth of Christianity will want to seriously consider this book (James F. McGrath, Clarence L. Goodwin Associate Professor of New Testament Language & Literature, Butler University).
