Book QUINLAN S CHARACTER STARS REV AND UPDATED ED

Download or read book QUINLAN S CHARACTER STARS REV AND UPDATED ED written by David Quinlan and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quinlan, who is familiar to most film librarians and scholars for his numerous articles and reference guides, has updated his Quinlan's Illustrated Directory of Film Character Actors (1996). It features over 1200 living and dead actors, primarily from the English-speaking world, who made their careers as character actors, those familiar faces who often appear in dozens if not hundreds of feature films without star billing. Although previous editions favored British actors, this one abounds with U.S. personalities, including Steve Buscemi, Janeane Garofalo, and Danny Glover. Arranged alphabetically by last name, each entry includes a black-and-white photo, brief biography (including cause of death, when applicable), and lengthy filmography. The biographical sections are especially pertinent, as they identify character traits (e.g., 'hound dog eyes,' although Quinlan focuses on hair quality more often than not) that help typecast the player. Little-known facts about some of these actors only add to the fun of browsing through the book. Bottom Line Although users will have to leaf through the pages to connect a face with a name, Quinlan's guide is highly recommended for all public and academic libraries.--Anthony J. Adam, Prairie View A&M Univ. Lib., TX 408pg. CAHNERS PUBLISHING, c2004.-

Book Quinlan s Character Stars

Download or read book Quinlan s Character Stars written by David Quinlan and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Character stars are the scene-stealers of the movies. These are the actors and actresses who have the ability to bring an entire character to life in a few lines -- sometimes in just a bare few moments of screen time. On other occasions they may tackle the kind of big roles that stars prefer to avoid: sidekicks, villains, victims or losers. But the concentrated energy of their best performances is hugely memorable -- filmgoers recognise their faces, even if their names are sometimes less than familiar. Quinlan's Character Stars is David Quinlan's definitive reference source for these unforgettable and indispensable artists of the silver screen: Rowan Atkinson, Steve Buscemi, Elisha Cook Jr, Gert Frobe, Ice-T, James Earl Jones, Beryl Reid, Alan Rickman, Michael Ripper, Harry Dean Stanton, Jessica Tandy, JT Walsh, Dianne Wiest and hundreds more. A bountiful A-Z brimming with over 1200 representatives of the finest character talent from the British and American studios, from before the coming of sound right up to the movies of today. Each character star is given a complete entry, modelled on the format of Quinlan's Film Stars. Each entry includes a brief biographical sketch, a photograph of the actor or actress, and a definitive listing of all their movie performances. Book jacket.
