Book Quicklet on 60 Minutes President Obama Part 1

Download or read book Quicklet on 60 Minutes President Obama Part 1 written by The Hyperink Team and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK The recent 60 Minutes interview with President Barack Obama impressed upon me the importance of looking at politics from all angles. In this current election year, many tend to think it’s necessary to choose a side and despise everything that comes from the other side. Even members of Congress take this attitude. In reality, however, both sides in the political arena have the capability of creating legislation that makes sense. Taking the best of both worlds is the best approach. The most important action we can take to improve the current economic situation is to listen and be objective. In his interview, President Obama said, "It is my vision for this country to put forth an economic package that will benefit the majority of Americans." Whether or not you agree with his approach, his ideas deserve consideration and respect. MEET THE AUTHOR The Hyperink Team works hard to bring you high-quality, engaging, fun content. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Kroft interview with Obama is called "President Obama: The economy, the congress, the future," an apt title for this important pre-election discussion. Kroft begins by asking the President what he thinks of new polls that state that 75 percent of Americans think he is not doing a good job. Obama replies by saying he would be surprised if Americans felt satisfied, since there is a lot more work to be done. He explains that he is working toward an economy that benefits everyone, not just a few. This initial back and forth sets the tone for the interview, which takes place in Osawatomie, Kansas. Next, Kroft switches to the subject of Congress and getting work done. In spite of it being an election year, the President contends he is still working. He wants to work with both parties in Congress, but will not wait when there is an opportunity to exercise his executive authority to get things done. Speaking on his vision for the future, President Obama says he wants to create policies that benefits the majority of Americans. He is even willing to go against some of the ideology his own party has promoted in the past to accomplish this. Kroft concludes the interview by asking the President why he should be re-elected. Obama gives a convincing argument that includes his accomplishments on health care reform, saving the auto industry, ending Don't Ask Don't Tell, decimating Al Qaeda, and getting the economy on the road to recovery.Let’s take a closer look at Obama’s in-depth discussion of the choices that have gotten him this far and his plans for a second term. Book In Plain Sight an Investigation Into UFOs and Impossible Science

Download or read book In Plain Sight an Investigation Into UFOs and Impossible Science written by Ross Coulthart and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2023-05-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An award-winning journalist investigates a story largely ignored by mainstream media but right there, in front of our eyes ... UFOs, UAPs, flying cigars, extraordinary new technologies ... Are we not alone? Award-winning investigative journalist Ross Coulthart has been intrigued by UFOs since mysterious glowing lights were reported near New Zealand's Kaikoura mountains when he was a teenager. The 1978 sighting is just one of thousands since the 1940s, and yet research into UFOs is still seen as the realm of crackpots and conspiracy theorists. In 2020, however, after decades of denial, the US Department of Defence made the astonishing admission that strange aerial and underwater objects frequently reported and videoed by pilots and tracked by sensors are real, unexplained, and pose a genuine national security concern. Compelled to investigate, Coulthart has embarked on what's become the most confronting and challenging story of his career, speaking to witnesses, researchers, scientists, spies and defence and intelligence officials and insiders. What he has found suggests that the world is on the cusp of extraordinary technological breakthroughs and cultural revelations. Bizarre, sometimes mind-blowing and utterly fascinating, In Plain Sight tells a story that's largely escaped the radar of mainstream media coverage but has been there all along. Now it's time to observe what's in front of our eyes.

Book excerpt: From the author of How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America * Winner, 2017 Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Award * Finalist, 2017 NAACP Image Awards * "One Book One New Orleans" 2017 Book Selection * Published in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Poetry Magazine, The Paris Review, New Republic, Boston Review, The Guardian, The Rumpus, and The Academy of American Poets "So many of these poems just blow me away. Incredibly beautiful and powerful." -- Michelle Alexander, Author of The New Jim Crow "Counting Descent is a tightly-woven collection of poems whose pages act like an invitation. The invitation is intimate and generous and also a challenge; are you up to asking what is blackness? What is black joy? How is black life loved and lived? To whom do we look to for answers? This invitation is not to a narrow street, or a shallow lake, but to a vast exploration of life. And you’re invited. -- Elizabeth Acevedo, Author of Beastgirl & Other Origin Myths "These poems shimmer with revelatory intensity, approaching us from all sides to immerse us in the America that America so often forgets." -- Gregory Pardlo "Counting Descent is more than brilliant. More than lyrical. More than bluesy. More than courageous. It is terrifying in its ability to at once not hide and show readers why it wants to hide so badly. These poems mend, meld and imagine with weighted details, pauses, idiosyncrasies and word patterns I've never seen before." -- Kiese Laymon, Author of Long Division Clint Smith's debut poetry collection, Counting Descent, is a coming of age story that seeks to complicate our conception of lineage and tradition. "Do you know what it means for your existence to be defined by someone else’s intentions?" Smith explores the cognitive dissonance that results from belonging to a community that unapologetically celebrates black humanity while living in a world that often renders blackness a caricature of fear. His poems move fluidly across personal and political histories, all the while reflecting on the social construction of our lived experiences. Smith brings the reader on a powerful journey forcing us to reflect on all that we learn growing up, and all that we seek to unlearn moving forward.

Book Addressing Tipping Points for a Precarious Future

Download or read book Addressing Tipping Points for a Precarious Future written by Timothy O'Riordan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-08-22 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tipping points are zones or thresholds of profound changes in natural or social conditions with very considerable and largely unforecastable consequences. Tipping points may be dangerous for societies and economies, especially if the prevailing governing arrangements are not designed either to anticipate them or adapt to their arrival. Tipping points can also be transformational of cultures and behaviours so that societies can learn to adapt and to alter their outlooks and mores in favour of accommodating to more sustainable ways of living. This volume examines scientific, economic and social analyses of tipping points, and the spiritual and creative approaches to identifying and anticipating them. The authors focus on climate change, ice melt, tropical forest drying and alterations in oceanic and atmospheric circulations. They also look closely at various aspects of human use of the planet, especially food production, and at the loss of biodiversity, where alterations to natural cycles may be creating convulsive couplings of tipping points. They survey the various institutional aspects of politics, economics, culture and religion to see why such dangers persist.

Book Black Youth Rising

Download or read book Black Youth Rising written by Shawn A. Ginwright and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ginwright examines the role of community based organizations (CBOs) in the lives and development of black urban youth. The author argues that these organizations have the potential to provide a powerful influence in "how young people choose to participate in schooling and civic life." Ginwright bases his observations on a five-year study of a CBO he created in Oakland, California. The book shows readers that the lives of poor, black, urban youth are not quite as determined by locale and income as more deterministic readings have argued, and that there is real hope for positive change in these urban communities.
