Il ne suffit pas, pour un étudiant, d’assister à une présentation de la matière par un professeur pour apprendre réellement ce qu’il est supposé apprendre. Mais il ne suffit pas non plus de lancer une question, un exercice ou un problème sur la table d’un groupe d’étudiants pour qu’ils apprennent. Alors comment faire? Les pédagogies actives sont-elles une solution? Sont-elles efficaces? Comment les mettre en oeuvre? Comment évaluer les compétences des étudiants? Quel est l’apport des nouvelles technologies pour l’apprentissage actif? Comment accompagner les étudiants? Des compte-rendus de pratiques, analyses d’expériences pédagogiques, rapports de rechercheaction et recherches en pédagogie universitaire abordent des ébauches de réponse à ces questions. Ces contributions font écho à des pratiques originales et innovantes. Elles permettent de mettre en perspective des pratiques de pédagogie active, d’approfondir la compréhension d’une situation, d’examiner les déterminants d’un dispositif d’apprentissage actif, de sa conception à sa mise en oeuvre, de présenter des résultats de recherche. Les pédagogies actives ne sont pas une fin en soi. Elles contribuent à former des femmes et des hommes qui donnent le meilleur d’eux-mêmes, durablement. Des experts internationaux francophones se sont réunis à l’Université catholique de Louvain, du 24 au 26 janvier 2007, lors du quatrième colloque «Questions de pédagogies dans l’enseignement supérieur », désireux de questionner un ensemble de pratiques et de savoirs pluriels liées aux enjeux et aux conditions de mise en oeuvre des pédagogies actives.

Starting from a current state of play on the issues and controversies raised by curricular and competency-based approaches (Chapters 1 and 2), this book aims at presenting new theoretical frameworks, allowing to account for the processes implied by the implementation of these pedagogical innovations and, in particular, those which, at the very heart of the skills mobilized, promote a "responsibility" dimension. Based on a developmental approach to individual and collective competencies and their evaluation (Chapters 3, 4 and 5), it attempts to show how this approach can mobilize educational practices on strong societal issues, such as "sustainable development "(Chapter 5). Lastly, it aims to provide theoretical and practical benchmarks to help engage educational teams and institutions in these innovative and responsible approaches by providing a coherent framework for doing so (Chapters 6, 7 and 8).
