Book Giving Feminism a bad name

Download or read book Giving Feminism a bad name written by Lorenza Perini and published by Ledizioni. This book was released on 2021-10-20 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the role of feminist movements in history as fundamental as much as in the current period and given the brutal attack that women’s rights are undergoing worldwide today, I wondered why feminism has grown so unpopular and, more specifically, why the mention of the word “feminism” so frequently gives rise to negative, disdainful responses. I wondered if the increasing violation of women’s rights had, to a certain extent, a connection with this feeling of detachment and rejection of feminism, which is a reality that feminists must take into consideration. I have, thus, decided to undertake an analysis of antifeminism to understand the profound reasons for this denigration and refusal.I tried to use a feminist methodological framework to select, describe and analyse the data and the literature in this book, in the belief that feminist research is a perspective in a given field of inquiry rather than a specific set of research field in itself. The book is addressed to my students and testifies to a little piece of the journey I have made with them reasoning about this and everything that has to do with freedom.

Book Representing Women in Parliament

Download or read book Representing Women in Parliament written by Marian Sawer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book-length treatment of the political representation of women in countries with parliamentary systems based on the Westminster model. Written by a major international team of authors, this new study features twelve chapters on both new and established parliaments, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. It tests the latest theories about women's political representation within Westminster style assemblies and is organized into three key sections that: examine the extent to which the descriptive representation of women in the ‘old’ Westminster parliaments has progressed in recent years, and the factors which have enhanced or impeded development. explore the relationship between the numbers of women elected and the substantive representation of women – or the extent that women ‘act for’ women. review the recent experiences of four ‘new’ Westminster parliaments (Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Nunavut) and evaluate the political opportunities for women provided by the creation of new institutions. This new comparative study will be of great interest to students and researchers of legislative studies and of gender politics and gender studies.

Book Feminist Methodology

Download or read book Feminist Methodology written by Caroline Ramazanoglu and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2002-02-20 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: `An accessible, clearly explained review of difficult concepts within this arena as well as relevant debates. Its strengths are in outlining possible considerations that need to be taken into account when making methodological choices. It also clearly explains how these choices impact knowledge production. This book would undoubtedly be of considerable use to anyone seeking to understand and get to grips with feminist methodological issues′ - Feminism and Psychology Who would be a feminist now? Contemporary ′political realism′ suggests that the essentials of the battle have already been won, and the current generation of women entering University is used to seeing feminism presented as ′old fashioned′, ′extreme′ and ′unrealistic′. Challenging such assumptions, this important new book argues for the value of empirical investigations of gendered life, and brings together the theoretical, political and practical aspects of feminist methodology. Feminist Methodology - demonstrates how feminist approaches to methodology engage with debates in western philosophy to raise critical questions about knowledge production - shows that feminist methodology has a distinctive place in social research - guides the reader through the terrain of feminist methodology and clarifies how feminists can claim knowledge of gendered social existence - connects abstract issues of theory with issues in fieldwork practice. This timely and accessible book will be an essential resource for students in women′s studies, gender studies, sociology, cultural studies, social anthropology and feminist psychology.

Book Duelling the Russian Cultural Imagination and Masculinity in Crisis

Download or read book Duelling the Russian Cultural Imagination and Masculinity in Crisis written by Amanda DiGioia and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written from a feminist perspective, uses the focus of duelling to discuss the nature of masculinity in Russia. It traces the development of duelling and masculinity historically from the time of Peter the Great onwards, considers how duelling and masculinity have been represented in both literature and film and assesses the high emphasis given in Soviet times to gender equality, arguing that this was a failed experiment that ran counter to Russian tradition. It examines how duelling continues to be a feature of life in contemporary Russia and relates the situation in Russia to wider scholarship on the nature of masculinity more generally. Overall, the book contends that Russia’s valuing of a strong, militaristic form of masculinity is a major problem.

Book Savoirs f ministes au Sud

Download or read book Savoirs f ministes au Sud written by Collectif and published by Graduate Institute Publications. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Women Feminism and Development

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women, Feminism and Development illustrates the significance and relevance of work on development carried out from a feminist perspective, with a particular focus on the contribution of Canadian researchers and activists. Covering a wide range of themes and concerns, the volume gathers authors from different organizational backgrounds and academic disciplines, and includes chapters on such different cultural and geographical areas as China, Malaysia and Thailand, Mexico and the West Indies, Uganda, Malawi and Ghana, and Canadian Inuit and Indian communities. A unity of purpose as well as a call for a fundamental reconceptualization of society emerge from these varied voices. Women, Feminism and Development is structured to convey a feminist perspective for the construction of theoretical, methodological, and political approaches to development; a critical evaluation of the effect of development policies on women's lives and gender relations; and an understanding of the multiple strategies that can lead to the empowerment of women and real development.
