Book King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: King Arthur most probably never existed and if he did we know precious little about him, and yet he is one of the most famous Britons, while Excalibur and Camelot are perhaps the world's best known sword and castle, and Hollywood doesn't tire of returning to the world of Arthurian romance - another major movie is to be released in 2016. So, what's the truth behind King Arthur? How did the legends take hold? And why have they endured for so long? Long before the Marvel Universe there was the universe of Arthurian romance and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table examines the fact and the fiction behind Arthur, Lancelot, Merlin, Guinevere, Galahad, among others, as well as the quest for the Holy Grail. Beginning in the 12th century, the book explores what factual basis there is for the tales and how the characters, stories and motifs developed through histories, epic poems and prose tellings. The book also charts the revived interest in Arthurian romance in the 19th century and considers how the tales still hold the popular imagination today. Illustrated with more than 180 color and black-and-white artworks and photographs and maps, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is an expertly written account of where literature, mythology and history meet.

Book The Holy Kingdom

Download or read book The Holy Kingdom written by Adrian Gilbert and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lost in the mists of time and legend is the true history of Britain before the arrival of the Romans and after their departure. Using ancient historical records, this book asserts that Britain was never fully conquered by the Romans but retained its culture as its royal families intermarried with the caesars. Two British kings, both named Arthur, became the single King Arthur of myth and legend. As a result of 40 years of research, this book reveals the location of the graves of both Arthurs, the burial place of the "true cross of Christ," and many other mysteries. It challenges many orthodox beliefs perpetuated by a church that long ago lost touch with its roots.

Book The Quest for King Arthur

Download or read book The Quest for King Arthur written by James Frost and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06-30 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debate over King Arthur is one of the oldest on record. But up until now all attempts to settle the debate have centred on interpretations of the documentation. But documents, as important as they are, are not the only tools at our disposal. History repeats itself. One of the reasons it does this is that there are a surprisingly large number of things that can only happen one way. Furthermore different societies do certain things in specific ways. Once it is known how these things work, then no documentation is necessary to explain what happened. There is enough information to determine the basic political and military systems the Britons used. It then becomes a matter of using this information to explain what is known of the course of the wars of this period to determine whether or not there is reason to believe that any such hero existed. But the system has other uses as well. Legends also work in specific ways. This technique can also be used to trace the origin of many of the figures and events in the legends.
