Download or read book THEATRE ET DEVELOPPEMENT CULTUREL EN AFRIQUE LE CAS DU BURKINA FASO written by JEAN PIERRE.. GUINGANE and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA PLUPART DES PROJETS MENES PAR LES PAYS AFRICAINS DANS LES DOMAINES ECONOMIQUE, POLITIQUE ET CULTUREL, DEPUIS LES INDEPENDANCES, SE SONT SOLDES PAR UN ECHEC AVEC, POUR CONSEQUENCE, UNE SITUATION DE CRISE SOCIALE GENERALISEE ENGENDRANT LA MISERE ET LA SOUFFRANCE POUR LES POPULATIONS. A PARTIR DE L'EXEMPLE DU BURKINA FASO, IL S'AGIT ICI, DE MONTRER LA PLACE ET LE ROLE DU THEATRE DANS LES POLITIQUES MISES EN OEUVRE. L'ETUDE DES CONDITIONS SOCIO-ECONOMIQUES ET POLITIQUES AINSI QUE CELLE DE LA POLITIQUE DE DEVELOPPEMENT (INSPIREE DE CRITERES ETRANGERS AU MILIEU) PERMET DE CONCLURE QUE L'INADAPTATION DE CETTE CONCEPTION DU DEVELOPPEMENT AUX REALITES LOCALES CONSTITUE LA CAUSE PRINCIPALE DU "SOUS-DEVELOPPEMENT" PARCE QU'ELLE N'ASSOCIE PAS SUFFISAMMENT LES POPULATIONS A LA REALISATION DES PROJETS ET NE PREND PAS EN COMPTE LEURS BESOINS REELS. LE THEATRE APPARAIT COMME UN MOYEN DE COMMUNICATION SOCIALE CAPABLE D'AIDER A UNE PRISE DE CONSCIENCE POLITIQUE CHEZ LES POPULATIONS ET DE FAVORISER L'INTEGRATION SOCIALE. A CE TITRE, LE THEATRE BEAUCOUP PLUS QUE LES AUTRES ARTS, EST UN MOYEN DE DEVELOPPEMENT. SI L'ON NE REDUIT PAS LE DEVELOPPEMENT A LA PRODUCTION ET A L'ACCUMULATION DE BIENS MATERIELS, COMME C'EST LE CAS ACTUELLEMENT, IL PEUT ETRE ENVISAGE UNE POLITIQUE DIFFERENTE DE CELLE QUI EXISTE, FONDE SUR L'ENRACINEMENT DANS LES REALITES LOCALES ET L'OUVERTURE SUR LE MONDE EXTERIEUR. LES RESULTATS D'UNE TELLE POLITIQUE POURRAIENT ETRE MOINS SPECTACULAIRES, MAIS SERAIENT PLUS PROPICES A L'EPANOUISSEMENT DES POPULATIONS.

He discusses its development, themes and techniques up to and including contemporary theater. The book is divided into two sections: Part One offers a theoretical and historical background; Part Two analyzes key individual plays central to the repertoire, including two from the Caribbean. All quotations are translated into English.

Book Interfaces Between the Oral and the Written

Download or read book Interfaces Between the Oral and the Written written by Flora Veit-Wild and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2005 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the African context, there exists the 'myth' that orality means tradition. Written and oral verbal art are often regarded as dichotomies, one excluding the other. While orature is confused with 'tradition', literature is ascribed to modernity. Furthermore, local languages are ignored and literature is equated with writing in foreign languages. The contributions in this volume take issue with such preconceptions and explore the multiple ways in which literary and oral forms interrelate and subvert each other, giving birth to new forms of artistic expression. They emphasize the local agency of the African poet and writer, which resists the global commodification of literature through the international bestseller lists of the cultural industry. The first section traces the movement from oral to written texts, which in many cases coincides with a switch from African to European languages. But as the essays in the section on "New Literary Languages" make clear, in other cases a true philological work is accomplished in the African language to create a new written and literary medium. Through the mixing of languages in the cities, such as the Sheng spoken in Kenya or the bilinguality of a writer such as Cheik Aliou Ndao (Senegal), new idioms for literary expressions evolve. The use of new media, technology or music stimulate the emergence of new genres, such as Taarab in East Africa, radio poetry in Yoruba and Hausa, or Rap in the Senegal, as is shown in the section on "Forms of New Orality." It is a great achievement of this second volume of Versions and Subversions in African Literatures that it assembles contributions by scholars from the anglophone and the francophone world and that it covers literary production in a broad spectrum of languages: English, French, Hausa, Sheng, Sotho, Spanish, Swahili, Wolof and Yoruba. Some of the authors and cultural practitioners treated in detail are: Mobolaij Adenubi, Birago Diop, Boubacar Boris Diop, David Maillu, Thomas Mofolo, Cheik Aliou Ndao, Donato Ndongo-Bidyogo, Hubert Ogunde, Shaaban Robert, Wole Soyinka, Ibrahim YaroYahaya, and Sénouvo Agbota Zinsou.

This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 908 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Black Theatre and Performance

Download or read book Black Theatre and Performance written by John Gray and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 1990-02-21 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the first major bibliography on Black theatre and performance in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and Canada. Unlike previous bibliographies on the topic, this work gives equal weight to Africa and the African Diaspora, and to biographical/critical material and play texts themselves. John Gray has collected more than 4,000 entries from a broad range of media, books, dissertations and theses, unpublished papers, periodical and newspaper articles, films, and videotapes. More than 650 playwrights and theatre groups from 45 countries are featured, as are performance genres that range from masquerades and carnival celebrations to the most recent works of noted playwrights such as Wole Soyinka and Derek Walcott. The work is organized into two categories: studies of specific geographic areas and countries, and materials on individual playwrights. Within these categories, works cited are further divided according to the type of material, such as book, journal, or dissertation. Also included are a listing of major bibliographies on African-American theatre, and two appendices that cite reference works and provide a regional listing of African and African Diaspora playwrights and theatre companies. A set of four indexes, covering artists, play titles, subjects, and authors of cited works, conclude the book and provide easy access to its comprehensive listings. This unique work will be an important resource for courses in African studies, theatre arts, and minority and ethnic studies. It will also be a useful addition to the reference collections of college, university, and public libraries.
