Book Queen Menopause

Download or read book Queen Menopause written by Alison Daddo and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A friendly, frank, compassionate and comprehensive companion for any woman experiencing menopause, or anyone wondering what to expect. We live in a world where women are still mostly seen as second class, where our beauty is our currency and our aging bodies render us somewhat invisible. Women are powerful, especially as we get older, when we begin to care less about the external. We forget the society standard and turn our back on the beauty stamp of approval . . . Now that I've crossed that invisible line into menopause, into the second half of my life, I look around me in wonder . . . and sometimes despair. It's a challenge to not see yourself the way your culture sees you. Every woman will eventually go through menopause - that's half the population of the planet! And yet it's something that is still not fully explored. It's held in shame by some women and ignored by others. It can be devastating to some and a call to freedom for others. After going through her own 'change', Ali Daddo wanted to explore all the feelings around menopause and especially the post-menopausal years that so many women talk about as being 'the best years of their life'. Through sharing her own experience in a very real way, Ali hopes that women won't feel so alone in what can be a very lonely time. Alongside stories from some very well known Australian women, including Georgie Parker, Anita Heiss and Rhonda Burchmore, Queen Menopause is the book Ali wishes she'd had when she was approaching menopause - so she could have been better prepared for what was coming, embraced the process and felt supported. This is for all women.

Book The Menopause Brain

Download or read book The Menopause Brain written by Lisa Mosconi and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling author of The XX Brain outlines the latest science showing how to navigate perimenopause and menopause successfully, and come out the other side with an even better brain. Menopause and perimenopause are still a black box to most doctors, leaving patients exasperated as they grapple with symptoms ranging from hot flushes to insomnia and brain fog. As a leading neuroscientist and women's brain health specialist, Dr Lisa Mosconi unravels the mystery by revealing how menopause doesn't impact just the ovaries, but is a hormonal show in which the brain takes centre stage. The decline of oestrogen during menopause influences everything from body temperature to mood and memory, potentially paving the way for cognitive decline later in life. To conquer these challenges successfully, Mosconi brings us the latest approaches: from cutting-edge hormone replacement therapies such as 'designer oestrogens' to the role of hormonal contraception, and key lifestyle changes encompassing diet, exercise, self-care, and self-talk. Best of all, Mosconi dispels the myth that menopause signifies an end, demonstrating it's actually a transition. Contrary to popular belief, if we know how to take care of ourselves during menopause, we can emerge with a renewed, enhanced brain—and usher in a meaningful and vibrant new chapter of life. 'Dr Lisa Mosconi is my go-to for insightful guidance on the brain during menopause' - Naomi Watts, actor 'This book is for all the times women have felt crazy, and been called crazy. We now have proof, our brains were changing, and the good news is...often for the better.' - Alison Daddo, author of Queen Menopause 'For anyone whose brain is not playing nicely during their peri- and menopause journey.' - Dr Ginni Mansberg, author of The M Word 'The latest research with practical advice so you can take your brain's health into your own hands during midlife and beyond.' - Sarah Connor, advocate, Menopause Over Martinis

Book The Management of the Menopause Post Menopausal Years

Download or read book The Management of the Menopause Post Menopausal Years written by S. Campbell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that the average woman spends one third of her life after the menopause, medical research has been devoted almost entirely to the repro ductive period of her life span. This is perhaps not surprising in our youth orientated society and yet there is increasing evidence that properly applied and supervised hormonal therapy could alleviate many of the severe physical symptoms which are associated with the ovarian menopause and that in the long term other aspects of physical deterioration could be modified. This lack of scientific research has made it difficult to assess which symptoms are due to the altered hormonal status of the post-menopausal period and which are due to the normal process of ageing, or the various psychological pressures which build up around most women in the fourth and fifth decades of life. In America doctors have been treating the 'menopausal syndrome' with estrogens for over 30 years, but in the United Kingdom gynaecologists and family doctors have been reticent to prescribe these steroid preparations. As a consequence, they have been labelled reactionary by the media and while there may be some truth -in this, it should be remembered that the hazar. ds associated with synthetic estrogens in the contraceptive pill were first brought to light by British epidemiological surveys.

Book The Return of the Feminine

Download or read book The Return of the Feminine written by Rebecca Orleane and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women are Lifegivers who understand the feminine because cycles of life and death run in our blood. All things in Nature move in cycles, yet women's cycles have been ignored, dismissed, or pathologized, affecting our place in society and preventing us from truly being who we are. Premenstrual Syndrome, a culturally induced condition resulting from a suppression of women's emotional vision, has led us to stop listening to the wisdom of our own cycles, and caused us to approach Menopause in a welter of confusion. This boo k explores the cycles that define our lives, offers ways to heal our relationships, and beckons us to return to Nature. It is time to awaken to the value and power inherent in another way of seeing the world, through the eyes of feminine vision. It is time to return to the feminine and heal our relationships through living in harmony with Nature. "This rich timely work clearly rises from the depths of a woman's soul. It is, indeed, an invitation into Life's Mystery. This work is a "must" for all those who seek the healing of the human condition." -Kenneth Hamilton, M.D., author of The Circle of the Soul "The minute I started reading this book, I got chills. Download or read book Flash Count Diary written by Darcey Steinke and published by Sarah Crichton Books. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Many days I believe menopause is the new (if long overdue) frontier for the most compelling and necessary philosophy; Darcey Steinke is already there, blazing the way. This elegant, wise, fascinating, deeply moving book is an instant classic. I’m about to buy it for everyone I know.” —Maggie Nelson, author of The Argonauts A brave, brilliant, and unprecedented examination of menopause Menopause hit Darcey Steinke hard. First came hot flashes. Then insomnia. Then depression. As she struggled to express what was happening to her, she came up against a culture of silence. Throughout history, the natural physical transition of menopause has been viewed as something to deny, fear, and eradicate. Menstruation signals fertility and life, and childbirth is revered as the ultimate expression of womanhood. Menopause is seen as a harbinger of death. Some books Steinke found promoted hormone replacement therapy. Others encouraged acceptance. But Steinke longed to understand menopause in a more complex, spiritual, and intellectually engaged way. In Flash Count Diary, Steinke writes frankly about aspects of Menopause that have rarely been written about before. She explores the changing gender landscape that comes with reduced hormone levels, and lays bare the transformation of female desire and the realities of prejudice against older women. Weaving together her personal story with philosophy, science, art, and literature, Steinke reveals that in the seventeenth century, women who had hot flashes in front of others could be accused of being witches; that the model for Duchamp's famous Étant donnés was a post-reproductive woman; and that killer whales—one of the only other species on earth to undergo menopause—live long post-reproductive lives. Flash Count Diary, with its deep research, open play of ideas, and reverence for the female body, will change the way you think about menopause. It's a deeply feminist book—honest about the intimations of mortality that menopause brings while also arguing for the ascendancy, beauty, and power of the post-reproductive years.
