Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final volume in the Non-deformable Solid Mechanics set, Movement Equations 5 deals with the dynamics of sets of solids. This volume provides the appropriate mathematical tools (torsor calculus and matrix calculus) to obtain and solve the equations of motion for a chain of solids. These equations are then used to acquire the information necessary for the design of mechanical systems. Also examined are the vibratory behavior of continuous (deformable) systems, rigid and deformable solids, and sets of several solids. The book concludes with a study of the response of an excited system as a function of the excitation frequency. Accompanied by detailed examples, this book is aimed primarily at students, but would also serve as a valuable support for working engineers and teacher-researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The set of books on Mechanical Engineering and Solid Mechanics, of which this book is the first volume, is an essential tool for those looking to develop a rigorous knowledge of the discipline, whether students, professionals (in search of an approach to a problem they are dealing with), or anyone else interested. This volume deals with the elements required for establishing the equations of motion when dealing with solid bodies. Chapter 1 focuses on the systems of reference used to locate solid bodies relative to the observer, and demonstrates how to describe their position, orientation, and evolution during their motion. Chapter 2 introduces descriptors of motion such as velocity and acceleration, and develops the concept of torsor notation in relation to these descriptors. Finally, Chapter 3 concerns the notions of mass and inertia, as well as the kinetic torsor and dynamic torsor which consolidate the kinematic and kinetic aspects in a single concept.

Book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of the Navier Stokes Equations

Download or read book An Introduction to the Mathematical Theory of the Navier Stokes Equations written by Giovanni Galdi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undoubtedly, the Navier-Stokes equations are of basic importance within the context of modern theory of partial differential equations. Although the range of their applicability to concrete problems has now been clearly recognised to be limited, as my dear friend and bright colleague K.R. Ra jagopal has showed me by several examples during the past six years, the mathematical questions that remain open are of such a fascinating and challenging nature that analysts and applied mathematicians cannot help being attracted by them and trying to contribute to their resolution. Thus, it is not a coincidence that over the past ten years more than seventy sig nificant research papers have appeared concerning the well-posedness of boundary and initial-boundary value problems. In this monograph I shall perform a systematic and up-to-date investiga tion of the fundamental properties of the Navier-Stokes equations, including existence, uniqueness, and regularity of solutions and, whenever the region of flow is unbounded, of their spatial asymptotic behavior. I shall omit other relevant topics like boundary layer theory, stability, bifurcation, de tailed analysis of the behavior for large times, and free-boundary problems, which are to be considered "advanced" ones. In this sense the present work should be regarded as "introductory" to the matter.

Book Asymptotic Behavior and Stability Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Asymptotic Behavior and Stability Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations written by Lamberto Cesari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few decades the theory of ordinary differential equations has grown rapidly under the action of forces which have been working both from within and without: from within, as a development and deepen ing of the concepts and of the topological and analytical methods brought about by LYAPUNOV, POINCARE, BENDIXSON, and a few others at the turn of the century; from without, in the wake of the technological development, particularly in communications, servomechanisms, auto matic controls, and electronics. The early research of the authors just mentioned lay in challenging problems of astronomy, but the line of thought thus produced found the most impressive applications in the new fields. The body of research now accumulated is overwhelming, and many books and reports have appeared on one or another of the multiple aspects of the new line of research which some authors call "qualitative theory of differential equations". The purpose of the present volume is to present many of the view points and questions in a readable short report for which completeness is not claimed. The bibliographical notes in each section are intended to be a guide to more detailed expositions and to the original papers. Some traditional topics such as the Sturm comparison theory have been omitted. Also excluded were all those papers, dealing with special differential equations motivated by and intended for the applications.

Book Five Decades of Tackling Models for Stiff Fluid Dynamics Problems

Download or read book Five Decades of Tackling Models for Stiff Fluid Dynamics Problems written by Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rationality - as opposed to 'ad-hoc' - and asymptotics - to emphasize the fact that perturbative methods are at the core of the theory - are the two main concepts associated with the Rational Asymptotic Modeling (RAM) approach in fluid dynamics when the goal is to specifically provide useful models accessible to numerical simulation via high-speed computing. This approach has contributed to a fresh understanding of Newtonian fluid flow problems and has opened up new avenues for tackling real fluid flow phenomena, which are known to lead to very difficult mathematical and numerical problems irrespective of turbulence. With the present scientific autobiography the author guides the reader through his somewhat non-traditional career; first discovering fluid mechanics, and then devoting more than fifty years to intense work in the field. Using both personal and general historical contexts, this account will be of benefit to anyone interested in the early and contemporary developments of an important branch of theoretical and computational fluid mechanics.

Book Nonlinear Differential Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear Differential Equations written by Piero de Mottoni and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Differential Equations: Invariance, Stability, and Bifurcation presents the developments in the qualitative theory of nonlinear differential equations. This book discusses the exchange of mathematical ideas in stability and bifurcation theory. Organized into 26 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the initial value problem for a nonlinear wave equation. This text then focuses on the interplay between stability exchange for a stationary solution and the appearance of bifurcating periodic orbits. Other chapters consider the development of methods for ascertaining stability and boundedness and explore the development of bifurcation and stability analysis in nonlinear models of applied sciences. This book discusses as well nonlinear hyperbolic equations in further contributions, featuring stability properties of periodic and almost periodic solutions. The reader is also introduced to the stability problem of the equilibrium of a chemical network. The final chapter deals with suitable spaces for studying functional equations. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.
