Book Cab Roof Strength Evaluation Dynamic Loading Heavy Trucks

Download or read book Cab Roof Strength Evaluation Dynamic Loading Heavy Trucks written by Truck Crashworthiness Committee and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice describes the test procedures for conducting dynamic cab roofstrength tests for heavy-truck applications. Its purpose is to establish recommended test procedures which will standardize the procedure for heavy trucks. Descriptions of the test set-up, test instrumentation,photographic/video coverage, and the test fixtures are included. In 1998, SAE J2422 and J2423 were both issued. These RPs addressed test procedures for evaluating the roof strength of heavy trucks. The difference between the two was how the roof load was imposed. SAE J2422 applied a quasi-static load to the cab roof where as SAE J2421 applied a dynamic impact. In 2003, SAE J2422 incorporated pass-fail condictions that paralleled ECE Regulation 29. These also included a defined quasi-static roof load to be applied to the roof. At the same time, SAE J2423 was also changed to reflect some of the ECE Regulation 29 conditions, but did not establish a prescribed magnitude of the energy to be applied to the roof. In section 10 (Performance Requirements) of SAE J2423, it also states "This test procedure is for the purpose of informational studies only and is not an alternative to SAE J2422 due to the lack of the prescirbed magnitude of energy applied to the roof of the vehicle in the second impact." Since SAE J2423 is no longer an alternative to SAE J2422, there is no reason to keep both procedures active. Therefore it is recommended that SAE J2423 by cancelled as an active SAE RP.

Book Rollover Accident Reconstruction

Download or read book Rollover Accident Reconstruction written by Christopher D Armstrong and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collision Reconstruction Methodologies - Volume 6B - The last ten years have seen explosive growth in the technology available to the collision analyst, changing the way reconstruction is practiced in fundamental ways. The greatest technological advances for the crash reconstruction community have come in the realms of photogrammetry and digital media analysis. The widespread use of scanning technology has facilitated the implementation of powerful new tools to digitize forensic data, create 3D models and visualize and analyze crash vehicles and environments. The introduction of unmanned aerial systems and standardization of crash data recorders to the crash reconstruction community have enhanced the ability of a crash analyst to visualize and model the components of a crash reconstruction. Because of the technological changes occurring in the industry, many SAE papers have been written to address the validation and use of new tools for collision reconstruction. Collision Reconstruction Methodologies Volumes 1-12 bring together seminal SAE technical papers surrounding advancements in the crash reconstruction field. Topics featured in the series include: • Night Vision Study and Photogrammetry • Vehicle Event Data Recorders • Motorcycle, Heavy Vehicle, Bicycle and Pedestrian Accident Reconstruction The goal is to provide the latest technologies and methodologies being introduced into collision reconstruction - appealing to crash analysts, consultants and safety engineers alike.

Book Crashworthiness of Transportation Systems Structural Impact and Occupant Protection

Download or read book Crashworthiness of Transportation Systems Structural Impact and Occupant Protection written by Jorge A.C. Ambrósio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic treatment of current crashworthiness practice in the automotive, railroad and aircraft industries. Structural, exterior and interior design, occupant biomechanics, seat and restraint systems are dealt with, taking account of statistical data, current regulations and state-of-the-art design tool capabilities. Occupant kinematics and biomechanics are reviewed, leading to a basic understanding of human tolerance to impact and of the use of anthropometric test dummies and mathematical modelling techniques. Different types of restraining systems are described in terms of impact biomechanics. The material and structural behaviour of vehicle components is discussed in relation to crash testing. A variety of commonly used techniques for simulating occupants and structures are presented, in particular the use of multibody dynamics, finite element methods and simplified macro-elements, in the context of design tools of increasing complexity, which can be used to model both vehicles and occupants. Audience: An excellent reference for researchers, engineers, students and all other professionals involved in crashworthiness work.

Book Numerical Analysis of a Small European Vehicle Under Rollover Condition

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of a Small European Vehicle Under Rollover Condition written by M. Mao and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quasi-static and dynamic roof crush simulations have been carried out successfully on a small European car that was loaded at different pitch/roll angles. The results obtained were validated against the MIRA experimental dynamic roof crush outputs and against the Bolton experiments performed under FMVSS 216. Overall, the outcomes show that bonded windscreens contribute to nearly 30 per cent of the roof strength, thus confirming similar results obtained by a number of other researchers. Furthermore, these results show that roof strength is a function of roll and pitch angles which also greatly influence the overall intrusion rate. The new findings illustrate that, having a fixed loading pitch angle, the roof strength decreases when the roll angles are between 15 and 45deg;. If the pitch angle is increased, the same phenomenon of reduced strength is observed. However, this does not signify that the roof becomes weaker with increasing pitch angle, because there are limits within which this can occur, and hence the worst-case loading that yields the smallest strength is found at pitch 10deg; and roll 45deg;. Therefore, it is recommended in this paper that an update be made to the FMVSS 216, where a roll angle of 45deg; (not 25deg;) and a pitch angle of 10deg; (not 5deg;) be used as they constitute the worst-case loading condition. As a result, a more realistic test configuration with angles that replicate real-world accident data can be represented.
