Book Quasi elastic Peak in High Energy Nucleon nucleon Scattering

Download or read book Quasi elastic Peak in High Energy Nucleon nucleon Scattering written by S. D. DRELL and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IN THE SCATTERING OF VERY HIGH-ENERGY PROTONS FROM THE NUCLEONS WITHIN TARGET NUCLEI, IT IS FOUND THAT THE SCATTERED PROTONS HAVE A DISTRIBUTION OF ENERGIES. These experiments where performed which show a sharp peak in the energy distribution which corresponds to elastic scattering of the incident protons, and also a broader peak at somewhat lower energy which corresponds to nearly elastic scattering of the incident protons. An explanation of this latter quasi-elastic peak is offered in terms of the diffraction scattering of one of the pions in the cloud of the target nucleon. This diffraction scattering of the pion by the incident nucleon results in a moderate energy loss of the nucleon, so that it emerges in the quasi-elastic peak. (Author).

Book Quasi elastic Nucleon nucleus Scattering at High Energy

Download or read book Quasi elastic Nucleon nucleus Scattering at High Energy written by Robert Karplus and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angular distribution for elastic nucleonnucleon scattering at the high energy is sharply peaked in the forward direction. As a consequence, there is an angular interval in nucleon-nucleus scattering to which successive small-angle elastic nucleon-bound nucleon scatterings are more likely to contribute than a single nucleon-bound nucleon scattering through the angle of observation. Such plural collisions result in outgoing nucleons which have suffered a smaller energy loss than nucleons that are scattered from hydrogen at the same angle. T e Fermi motion of the bound-nucleons produces a broadening in the energy distribution of the scattered nucleons, but displaces the centre of the distribution only negligibly. The results of calculations with a simple model are in satisf ctory agreement with the observations on proton-carbon scattering. (Author).

Book Quasi Elastic Nuclear Scattering at High Energies

Download or read book Quasi Elastic Nuclear Scattering at High Energies written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quasi-elastic scattering of two nuclei is considered in the high-energy optical model. Energy loss and momentum transfer spectra for projectile ions are evaluated in terms of an inelastic multiple-scattering series corresponding to multiple knockout of target nucleons. The leading-order correction to the coherent projectile approximation is evaluated. Calculations are compared with experiments. Cucinotta, Francis A. and Townsend, Lawrence W. and Wilson, John W. Book Nucleon Correlations in Nuclei

Download or read book Nucleon Correlations in Nuclei written by Anton N. Antonov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been growing interest in the nucleon-nucleon correl ations inside nuclei. In many respects the motions of the nucleons can be very well described by an overall mean field, so that the motion of each nucleon is governed by the mean field due to all the other nucleons. This concept underlies the Fermi-gas, Hartree-Fock and shell models and has enabled a range of nuclear properties to be calculated, often to surprising accuracy. It gradually became clear, however, that these mean-field models are limited by the effects due to the very strong interactions between the nucleons that occur at short distances; these are the short-range correlations. They are responsible for instance for the high-momentum components in the nucleon momentum dis tribution, and prevent the simultaneous description of the nuclear density and momentum distributions by the same mean field. It thus becomes necessary to develop methods for including the effects of nucleon correlations in nuclei, and these are the main subject of this book. Some related problems of nuclear structure were discussed in an earlier book by the same authors: Nucleon Momentum and Density Distributions in Nuclei (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1988). The main aim of that book was to study the effects of nucleon-nucleon correlations, both short-range and tensor, on the nucleon momentum distribution, which is particularly sensitive to these correl ations, and on the nucleon density distribution.

Book High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure

Download or read book High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure written by P. Catillon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure covers the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on High Energy Physics and Nuclear Structure, held in Versailles on July 6-10, 1981. The book focuses on the processes, reactions, and methodologies involved in high energy physics and nuclear structure. The selection first offers information on experiments on antinucleon-nucleon, baryonium, nucleon-nucleon, and dibaryons and the quark model pion and the goldstone pion. Discussions focus on antinucleon-nucleon and baryonium, nucleon-nucleon and dibaryon, and spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. The text also ponders on quarks and nuclei, multiquark resonant states, and electron scattering from complex nuclei. The publication elaborates on electromagnetic interactions on light nuclei, electromagnetic interactions with nuclei at high momentum transfer, and inelastic electron scattering at low energy. The book also touches on the dynamics of hadron nucleus interactions, hypernuclei and interactions of kaons with nuclei, and pion-nucleus scattering theory. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in high energy structure and nuclear physics.

  • Pages : 440 pages

Download or read book The Nucleon Optical Model written by Peter Edward Hodgson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleon optical model is widely used to calculate the elastic scattering cross-sections and polarisations for the interaction of neutrons and protons with atomic nuclei. The optical model potentials not only describe the scattering but also provide the wave functions needed to analyse a wide range of nuclear reactions. They also unify many aspects of nuclear reactions and nuclear structure. This book consists of a comprehensive introduction to the subject and a selection of papers by the author describing the optical model in detail. It contains full references to the original literature with many examples of the application of the model to the analysis of experimental data.
