Book Quantum Theory of Polymers as Solids

Download or read book Quantum Theory of Polymers as Solids written by Janos J. Ladik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this monograph is to summarize the different quantum mechanical methods developed in the last 20 years to treat the electronic structure of polymers. Owing to the nature of the problem, these methods consist of a mixture of quantum-chemical and solid-state physical tech niques. The theory described in Part I treats, besides the Hartree-Fock problem, the· electron correlation, and it has also been developed for disordered polymeric systems. Though for obvious reasons the book could not include all the existing calculations, each new method des cribed is illustrated by a few applications, with a discussion of the numerical results obtained. Far more details see the Introduction to Part I. The second part contains the theoretical calculation of different properties of polymers based on the methods systematically introduced in the first part. The properties calculated include the electronic and vibrational spectra of polymers, and the computation of their transport, magnetic, and mechanical properties. In cases where reliable ex perimental data are available, the theoretical results are compared with them.

Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Electronic Structure and Properties of Polymers" was held at the Facultes Universitaires de Namur (F.U.N.) from August 31 till September 14, 1977. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO, the main sponsor of this Institute, and to the Facultes Universitaires Notre Dame de la Paix and their Board who gave us generous financial help as well as accommodation for the School. Our sincere thanks to Dr Tilo Kester from the NATO Scien tific Affairs Division and Prof. Roger Troisfontaines, Rector and President ~f the Facultes Notre Dame de la Paix. This volume contains the main lectures of the Institute. It is our great pleasure to thank all the lecturers for their most excellent and interesting lectures and for the clarity of their manuscripts. During the School the participants and lecturers felt that though there has been considerable progress in recent years in the methods applicable to the quantum theoretical treatment of polymers, not very many calculations of their properties have been performed. This is the reason that the title of this volume has been changed to "Quantum Theory of Polymers".

Book Quantum Chemistry Aided Design Of Organic Polymers An Introduction To The Quantum Chemistry Of Polymers And Its Applications

Download or read book Quantum Chemistry Aided Design Of Organic Polymers An Introduction To The Quantum Chemistry Of Polymers And Its Applications written by Jean-marie Andre and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-01-25 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for those who are interested in understanding the electronic structure and properties of polymers. The scope of the book is to provide the non-specialist reader with a comprehensive and unified description: (i) of quantum mechanical methods, mainly originating from quantum chemistry, to calculate the electronic properties of polymers, (ii) of their use for interpreting and predicting results in fields where the electronic structure is playing an important role, like the electrical conductivity and the non linear optical properties of conjugated polymers. It will also serve as a reference book to lecture graduate students on the electronic structure of polymers or more generally of quasi-one dimensional materials. In this framework, it is worth stressing that the quantum theory of polymers bridges the gap between chemistry and physics. Since no book of this kind involving a strong interaction between theoretical and experimental concepts is available at the moment, it will also meet a need for a timely monograph in a field of important and fast growing interest.

Book The Theory of Polymer Dynamics

Download or read book The Theory of Polymer Dynamics written by Masao Doi and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1988 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive account of the modern theory for the dynamical properties of polymer solutions. The theory has undergone dramatic evolution over the last two decades due to the introduction of new methods and concepts that have extended the frontier of theory from dilute solutions in which polymers move independently to concentrated solutions where many polymers converge. Among the properties examined are viscoelasticity, diffusion, dynamic light scattering, and electric birefringence. Nonlinear viscoelasticity is discussed in detail on the basis of molecular dynamical models. The book bridges the gap between classical theory and new developments, creating a consistent picture of polymer solution dynamics over the entire concentration range.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 1626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological restrictions. These are relevant to the understanding of the statistical properties of elementary particles and the entanglement phenomena in polymer physics and biophysics. The Chern-Simons theory of particles with fractional statistics (anyons) is introduced and applied to explain the fractional quantum Hall effect." "The relevance of path integrals to financial markets is discussed, and improvements of the famous Black-Scholes formula for option prices are developed which account for the fact that large market fluctuations occur much more frequently than in Gaussian distributions." --Book Jacket.

Book Scaling Concepts in Polymer Physics

Download or read book Scaling Concepts in Polymer Physics written by Pierre-Gilles de Gennes and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 1979 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first stage of the physics of long, flexible chains was pioneered by eminent scientists such as Debye, Kuhn, Kramers, and Flory, who formulated the basic ideas. In recent years, because of the availability of new experimental and theoretical tools, a second stage of the physics of polymers has evolved. In this book, a noted physicist explains the radical changes that have taken place in this exciting and rapidly developing field. Pierre-Gilles de Gennes points out the three developments that have been essential for recent advances in the study of large-scale conformations and motions of flexible polymers in solutions and melts. They are the advent of neutron-scattering experiments on selectively deuterated molecules; the availability of inelastic scattering of laser light, which allows us to study the cooperative motions of the chains; and the discovery of an important relationship between polymer statistics and critical phenomena, leading to many simple scaling laws. Until now, information relating to these advances has not been readily accessible to physical chemists and polymer scientists because of the difficulties in the new theoretical language that has come into use. Professor de Gennes bridges this gap by presenting scaling concepts in terms that will be understandable to students in chemistry and engineering as well as in physics.

Book Quantum Mechanics in Nonlinear Systems

Download or read book Quantum Mechanics in Nonlinear Systems written by Xiao-Feng Pang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the history of physics and science, quantum mechanics has served as the foundation of modern science. This book discusses the properties of microscopic particles in nonlinear systems, principles of the nonlinear quantum mechanical theory, and its applications in condensed matter, polymers and biological systems. The book is essentially composed of three parts. The first part presents a review of linear quantum mechanics, as well as theoretical and experimental fundamentals that establish the nonlinear quantum mechanical theory. The theory itself and its essential features are covered in the second part. In the final part, extensive applications of this theory in physics, biology and polymer are introduced. The whole volume forms a complete system of nonlinear quantum mechanics. The book is intended for researchers, graduate students as well as upper-level undergraduates.
