Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gravity is so intense that space time breaks down catastrophically. At the center of a black hole space time becomes a single dimensional point, gravity becomes infinite and space time curves infinitely and the laws of physics as we know them cease to function. If a singularity has infinite mass than magic can exist.

Book The Second Singularity

Download or read book The Second Singularity written by Pravir Malik and published by Pravir Malik. This book was released on 2019-11-24 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that the future of Life is about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and that as AI advances a point will be reached, the Singularity, when humans will no longer have a clue as to what is going on nor why. Essentially as a species, humans will at this point have been marginalized by a global, singular intelligence, whose capabilities far outstrip human intelligence. On the contrary, this book will make the case that the future of Life is enabled by the pre-existent complexity that exists in every iota of it and that there have already been a series of light-based epiphanies by virtue of which Life in its continuing complexities has emerged as partial-singularities, and further, will culminate in a Second Singularity as more of our species consciously opens to the fullness of Light. The power and capabilities of the Second Singularity will far outstrip any AI-based singularity. This pre-existent complexity derives from the fact that Light exists in multiple states simultaneously. Hence, there is a fundamental and single light-based edifice that informs our universe, and it is by virtue of this light-based edifice that all matter, all life, all mind, and all emergences beyond the level of mind will surface. The future of life, hence, cannot be due to AI. At best, AI, can create a process by which many tasks that usually require utilization of the fundamental light-derived capacity of intelligence in order to be completed, can be completed by an exhaustively repetitive running of algorithms driven by massive computing power, hence giving the illusion of intelligence. Projected forward, the exhaustively repetitive running of algorithms driven by massive computing power, endow a practically ubiquitous digitally-enabled strata to control many tasks, and this may create the phenomenon of a “singularity” – in which humankind effectively cannot even fathom how things are happening anymore and is seemingly outpaced and outthought at every step in every direction by an ‘intelligence’ that appears to be all-knowing, all-present, and all-powerful. But this kind of singularity is fundamentally separated from the light-based edifice behind all things, and from which all things rise. It is hence not a true singularity in the sense of a finite function assuming infinite value, but is fundamentally limited in its scope by virtue of its disconnection from the founts of Life. This does not preclude an AI-based singularity from having massive practical power that can have an enormous destructive or constructive effect on humankind and material life. What it does mean though is that there is another singularity, a human-founded singularity, the Second Singularity, which can exceed the limits of any AI-based singularity due to its fundamental union with the light-based edifice that is behind and informs all of Life. The possible human-founded singularity, it will be discovered, is one in a long series of naturally occurring though partial-singularities that derive their existence from a fundamental union with the light-based edifice behind all things. Such partial-singularities are characterized by having all the power of the light-edifice behind them, though the emergences in such partial-singularities are not necessarily aware of their oneness with the light-based edifice. In the Second Singularity humans become aware of such oneness, becoming conscious projections animated by a single intelligence, love, and power of which they are a part. It is hence no more the human-level capacity that drives such humans, but the infinite capacities of the one light-based edifice that drives. This book focuses on the mathematics of emergence of these naturally occurring partial-singularities, leading up to the possible human-founded singularity that will endow humankind with the potential for extraordinary capacities.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Celebrated futurist Ray Kurzweil, hailed by Bill Gates as “the best person I know at predicting the future of artificial intelligence,” presents an “elaborate, smart, and persuasive” (The Boston Globe) view of the future course of human development. “Artfully envisions a breathtakingly better world.”—Los Angeles Times “Startling in scope and bravado.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times “An important book.”—The Philadelphia Inquirer At the onset of the twenty-first century, humanity stands on the verge of the most transforming and thrilling period in its history. It will be an era in which the very nature of what it means to be human will be both enriched and challenged as our species breaks the shackles of its genetic legacy and achieves inconceivable heights of intelligence, material progress, and longevity. While the social and philosophical ramifications of these changes will be profound, and the threats they pose considerable, The Singularity Is Near presents a radical and optimistic view of the coming age that is both a dramatic culmination of centuries of technological ingenuity and a genuinely inspiring vision of our ultimate destiny.

Book Asymptotically Safe Gravity

Download or read book Asymptotically Safe Gravity written by Alessia Benedetta Platania and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to construct a consistent fundamental quantum theory of gravity, which is often considered one of the most challenging open problems in present-day physics. It approaches this challenge using modern functional renormalization group techniques, and attempts to realize the idea of “Asymptotic Safety” originally proposed by S. Weinberg. Quite remarkably, the book makes significant progress regarding both the fundamental aspects of the program and its phenomenological consequences. The conceptual developments pioneer the construction of a well-behaved functional renormalization group equation adapted to spacetimes with a preferred time-direction. It is demonstrated that the Asymptotic Safety mechanism persists in this setting and extends to many phenomenologically interesting gravity-matter systems. These achievements constitute groundbreaking steps towards bridging the gap between quantum gravity in Euclidean and Lorentzian spacetimes. The phenomenological applications cover core topics in quantum gravity, e.g. constructing a phenomenologically viable cosmological evolution based on quantum gravity effects in the very early universe, and analyzing quantum corrections to black holes forming from a spherical collapse. As a key feature, all developments are presented in a comprehensive and accessible way. This makes the work a timely and valuable guide into the rapidly evolving field of Asymptotic Safety.

Book Selected Works of Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich Volume II

Download or read book Selected Works of Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich Volume II written by Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of a two-volume collection of over 100 articles spanning half a century of work by the late Soviet scientist Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich. The breadth and depth of Zeldovich's work is staggering. Author of over twenty books and more than 500 scientific articles, he made fundamental contributions in chemical catalysis and kinetics, combustion and the hydrodynamics of explosive phenomena, nuclear chain reactions and nuclear energy, the physics of elementary particles, and the large-scale structure of the universe and cosmology. The importance of this collection lies not only in its documentary value as a collection of key scientific works by a man of genius. Zeldovich himself considered his most valuable role to be that of a teacher, to convey to young scientists the how of science. The author of several excellent textbooks on topics ranging from elementary mathematics to advanced methods of mathematical physics, he saw this collection of works, enlarged from the original Russian edition, as a contribution to that end. Commentaries by the author and the editors are included with each paper serving to enhance both the historical and the pedagogical value of this edition. The passing of Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich in December, 1987, was a loss felt deeply by scientists all over the world. This collection of his works serves as a tribute to him as a man, a scientist, and, above all, a teacher. Originally published in 1993. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Download or read book Quantum Space written by Jim Baggott and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today we are blessed with two extraordinarily successful theories of physics. The first is Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, which describes the large-scale behaviour of matter in a curved spacetime. This theory is the basis for the standard model of big bang cosmology. The discovery of gravitational waves at the LIGO observatory in the US (and then Virgo, in Italy) is only the most recent of this theory's many triumphs. The second is quantum mechanics. This theory describes the properties and behaviour of matter and radiation at their smallest scales. It is the basis for the standard model of particle physics, which builds up all the visible constituents of the universe out of collections of quarks, electrons and force-carrying particles such as photons. The discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in Geneva is only the most recent of this theory's many triumphs. But, while they are both highly successful, these two structures leave a lot of important questions unanswered. They are also based on two different interpretations of space and time, and are therefore fundamentally incompatible. We have two descriptions but, as far as we know, we've only ever had one universe. What we need is a quantum theory of gravity. Approaches to formulating such a theory have primarily followed two paths. One leads to String Theory, which has for long been fashionable, and about which much has been written. But String Theory has become mired in problems. In this book, Jim Baggott describes ": an approach which takes relativity as its starting point, and leads to a structure called Loop Quantum Gravity. Baggott tells the story through the careers and pioneering work of two of the theory's most prominent contributors, Lee Smolin and Carlo Rovelli. Combining clear discussions of both quantum theory and general relativity, this book offers one of the first efforts to explain the new quantum theory of space and time.
