This book was released on 2001 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: III-Phosphide self-assembled quantum dot (SAQD or simply QD) structures offer the potential to realize injection lasers operating in the visible spectral region with improved performance characteristics such as low threshold current density high charactenstic temperature and high differential gain. Also SAQD growth can overcome the limitation of lattice matching between the substrate and the epitaxial active region due to the inflinsic nature of the growth mode (i.e. strain-induced S-K growth).

Book Quantum Dots for Quantum Information Processing Controlling and Exploiting the Quantum Dot Environment

Download or read book Quantum Dots for Quantum Information Processing Controlling and Exploiting the Quantum Dot Environment written by Martin J. A. Schütz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis offers a comprehensive introduction to surface acoustic waves in the quantum regime. It addresses two of the most significant technological challenges in developing a scalable quantum information processor based on spins in quantum dots: (i) decoherence of the electronic spin qubit due to the surrounding nuclear spin bath, and (ii) long-range spin-spin coupling between remote qubits. Electron spins confined in quantum dots (QDs) are among the leading contenders for implementing quantum information processing. To this end, the author pursues novel strategies that turn the unavoidable coupling to the solid-state environment (in particular, nuclear spins and phonons) into a valuable asset rather than a liability.

Book Quantum Dots

Download or read book Quantum Dots written by T. Chakraborty and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-11-30 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the electronic and optical properties of two low-dimensional systems: quantum dots and quantum antidots and is divided into two parts. Part one is a self-contained monograph which describes in detail the theoretical and experimental background for exploration of electronic states of the quantum-confined systems. Starting from the single-electron picture of the system, the book describes various experimental methods that provide important information on these systems. Concentrating on many-electron systems, theoretical developments are described in detail and their experimental consequences are also discussed. The field has witnessed an almost explosive growth and some of the future directions of explorations are highlighted towards the end of the monograph. The subject matter is dealt with in such a way that it is both accessible to beginners and useful for expert researchers as a comprehensive review of most of the developments in the field.Furthermore the book contains 37 reprinted articles which have been selected to provide a first-hand picture of the overall developments in the field. The early papers have been arranged to portray the developments chronologically, and the more recent papers provide an overview of future direction in the research.

Book Impact of Ion Implantation on Quantum Dot Heterostructures and Devices

Download or read book Impact of Ion Implantation on Quantum Dot Heterostructures and Devices written by Arjun Mandal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-02 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the effects of ion implantation as an effective post-growth technique to improve the material properties, and ultimately, the device performance of In(Ga)As/GaAs quantum dot (QD) heterostructures. Over the past two decades, In(Ga)As/GaAs-based QD heterostructures have marked their superiority, particularly for application in lasers and photodetectors. Several in-situ and ex-situ techniques that improve material quality and device performance have already been reported. These techniques are necessary to maintain dot density and dot size uniformity in QD heterostructures and also to improve the material quality of heterostructures by removing defects from the system. While rapid thermal annealing, pulsed laser annealing and the hydrogen passivation technique have been popular as post-growth methods, ion implantation had not been explored largely as a post-growth method for improving the material properties of In(Ga)As/GaAs QD heterostructures. This work attempts to remedy this gap in the literature. The work also looks at introduction of a capping layer of quaternary alloy InAlGaAs over these In(Ga)As/GaAs QDs to achieve better QD characteristics. The contents of this volume will prove useful to researchers and professionals involved in the study of QDs and QD-based devices.
