Book Chemical Identification and its Quality Assurance

Download or read book Chemical Identification and its Quality Assurance written by Boris L. Milman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to show how to apply the principles of quality assurance to the identification of analytes (qualitative chemical analysis). After presenting the principles of identification and metrological basics, the author focuses on the reliability and the errors of chemical identification. This is then applied to practical examples such as EPA methods, EU, FDA, or WADA regulations. Two whole chapters are devoted to the analysis of unknowns and identification of samples such as foodstuffs or oil pollutions. Essential reading for researchers and professionals dealing with the identification of chemical compounds and the reliability of chemical analysis.

Book Quality Control in Toxicology

Download or read book Quality Control in Toxicology written by G.E. Paget and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topics in Toxicology Toxicology is a science that stands at the intersection of several interests and disciplines. These intersecting forces are by no means all scientific since some are legal and some are commercial. All have valid things to say about the conduct and interpretation of toxicity experiments. The practising toxicologist must bear all these sometimes conflicting forces in mind as he carries out his duties. This is especially true, of course, of the toxicologist in industry. Toxicology is also a field in which contract research particularly flourishes and a number of major contract research companies have established over the years a reputation for contributing usefully to the practice of this skill. These contract research organisations are particu larly favoured to develop an appreciation of the problems of the in dustrial toxicologist, since it is very common for such a company to service the toxicological needs of companies in several sectors of industry producing new chemical compounds, and the contract research company, therefore, is aware of a wider diversiy of problems than probably affects a single toxicologist in one industry.

Book Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System

Download or read book Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poisoning is a far more serious health problem in the U.S. than has generally been recognized. It is estimated that more than 4 million poisoning episodes occur annually, with approximately 300,000 cases leading to hospitalization. The field of poison prevention provides some of the most celebrated examples of successful public health interventions, yet surprisingly the current poison control "system" is little more than a loose network of poison control centers, poorly integrated into the larger spheres of public health. To increase their effectiveness, efforts to reduce poisoning need to be linked to a national agenda for public health promotion and injury prevention. Forging a Poison Prevention and Control System recommends a future poison control system with a strong public health infrastructure, a national system of regional poison control centers, federal funding to support core poison control activities, and a national poison information system to track major poisoning epidemics and possible acts of bioterrorism. This framework provides a complete "system" that could offer the best poison prevention and patient care services to meet the needs of the nation in the 21st century.

Book Safety Assessment of Cosmetics in Europe

Download or read book Safety Assessment of Cosmetics in Europe written by Vera Rogiers and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Current Problems in Dermatology presents the reader with a portrait of the scientific background of the complex process of safety assessment of cosmetics as well as information on European cosmetic legislation. A practical approach to the search for toxicity data on cosmetic ingredients and a compilation of the legally required technical dossier of a finished cosmetic product as well as an in-depth analysis of the safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients performed at the EU level by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) are available. The current status of 3R alternatives to animal testing and the extent to which they are implemented by the cosmetic industry and considered by the SCCP in the risk assessment process is discussed. As such, guidance is provided in relation to the manifold challenges cosmetic safety assessors are faced with in the current EU regulatory setting. In this valuable handbook, qualified cosmetic safety assessors, suppliers of raw materials, dermatologists and pharmacists, toxicologists as well as EU officials and administrators dealing with cosmetics will find relevant information on the European cosmetic legislation, the compilation of cosmetic technical dossiers, toxicological database searches, and the availability and use of alternative methods in the field of cosmetics.

Book Quality Assurance Guidance for Laboratories Performing Aquatic Toxicity Tests

Download or read book Quality Assurance Guidance for Laboratories Performing Aquatic Toxicity Tests written by MC. Harrass and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satisfactory laboratory performance is critical to the use of aquatic toxicity tests in regulatory, industrial and research applications. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) practices are fundamental to demonstrating satisfactory performance. Laboratory aquatic toxicity test procedural and performance criteria can help a potential client decide that an aquatic toxicity laboratory will meet a need, as well as help an outside reviewer determine that test results are valid. Laboratory practices to assure and control quality include training staff, using standard procedures, and keeping valid records, but also include evaluating and improving performance. These components echo several widely used quality management principles. The costs of poor quality (lost time, lost production and lost image) touch both the laboratory and the laboratory's customers. While the level of quality should reflect the use of the study, higher quality work provides for better control, better data and better service, benefits ultimately shared by both the suppliers and users of aquatic toxicity data.

Book Evaluation of Environmental Data for Regulatory and Impact Assessment

Download or read book Evaluation of Environmental Data for Regulatory and Impact Assessment written by S. Ramamoorthy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-01-14 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mounting concern for the state of the environment has led to a substantial increase in the collection of environmental data in the past two decades. This trend raises issues with regard to the quality assurance and quality control of the data gathering process, from sampling to analysis. The evaluation of environmental data in terms of quality, and relevance for use in the management of toxic chemicals in the enviroment, has reached a critical phase. An enormous volume of data is being generated, on both residue levels and their effects, to meet short- and long-term needs for regulatory procedures and (environmental) impact assessments. Therefore, it is important to verify not only the quality of the data collected, but also the choice of relevant test parameters. This volume deals with the evolution of analytical methodologies to the current state-of-the-art techniques, quality assurance/quality control of data acquirements, and testing procedures for screening of toxic chemicals - including their hazard identification, persistence, and fate processes in the environment. The models currently employed in environmental impact assessment and risk assessment are also discussed in detail. Public involvement and participation in regulatory decision-making processess is also described. It is intended for managers and scientists involved in environmental management and research of toxic chemicals in the environment.
